Detective Isaac Taylor doesn't believe in curses, but that's exactly where his latest homicide case leads him. A deadly shooting spree with ties to a curse that goes back generations. A case that Ike is desperate to solve before he leaves on his honeymoon.
For Sidney Fairchild, the word curse sounds just about right. One lost wedding gown and a floating cake disaster have her on edge. When family comes to town dragging trouble behind them, she wonders if her beautiful beach wedding is doomed.
Now the body count is rising, and so is the family tension. But can Ike and Sidney keep it together long enough to say 'I do,' or will the dueling curses keep them from saying their vows?
Lashell Collins is an American author of romantic suspense, contemporary and paranormal romance. She spent the last twenty years of her life working in veterinary clinics and garden centers in her home state of Ohio, and is now living her dream of writing full-time. When she's not busy tapping away on her laptop and living vicariously through her characters, she can usually be found watching Grimm, rocking out to Slash, stuffing her face full of Chinese food, or riding on the back of her husband's Harley-Davidson.
While it was light on detective work, 'Curses' was another great addition to the Isaac Taylor Mysteries. In a way, it made sense, as the book centered around Ike and Sidney's wedding (which was very romantic). The wedding 'disasters' and the arrival of a totally unexpected character added to the story. Looking forward to reading the next book!
Ms. Collins does it again! “CURSES & VOWS: A Psychic Detective Romantic Mystery” is the 6th fantastic book in her latest series, ‘"An Isaac Taylor Mystery" :D Always relatable characters like our H/h, Isaac & Sidney with their chemistry off the chart, plus witty dialogue & great secondary characters! I can count on a fresh new plot, with amazing attention-to-detail that hooked me from the get-go, to where I couldn’t stop, and read this novel in record time! ... Plus, there’s always surprise twists & turns that keeps me guessing & on the edge of my seat! ... I can highly recommend this whole series & all of this author’s books to adult fans of fiction! I can’t wait for more, but I will still be craving more of this author’s books, while I am waiting impatiently ;) lol
Isaac and Sidney are finally getting married and everything that could go wrong has gone wrong. From missing wedding dresses to no cake what else can happen? Isaac finds himself chasing curses a week before his wedding and Sidney is trying to save another abused woman in her shelter. The love birds find themselves extremely busy with work and their families are stressing them out.
This was a sweet entry into the series and I appreciated that the story did have a bit more, Isaac and Sidney, compared to the last book. Hopefully, the next book will solve the mystery of the second case Isaac didn't solve before his honeymoon. Love this series and I look forward to reading more mysteries.
WEDDINGS ARE A WONDEROUS THING, THEY CAN BRING OUT THE BEST AND THE WORST IN PEOPLE. PERSONALLY, I DON'T LIKE THEM THE BEST THING TO ME IS EATING THE CAKE. SMILE. I COULDN'T WAIT TILL IKE AND SID GOT MARRIED IT DIDN'T LOOK GOOD FOR AWHILE. SO ROMANTIC. SIGH! ;D
First of all, I want to implore Lashell Collins to keep writing more of Isaac Taylor Mysteries. I have read a series that has had 26 books so I would love to see and read as many of these books as possible. What I am trying to say is that I love this series and the characters. I love sexy Sidney, who is gorgeous, intelligent and the most compassionate person, with champagne- colored eyes and a heart full of love for the "strange" man known as Isaac Taylor with the psychic abilities. I am happy that their relationship has gone from telephone talk to friends to lovers and now to finally having their beautiful beach wedding. I am not a disbeliever in the things that Isaac is able to do, and I am so glad that his grand dad has explained to him that he comes from a legacy of men and women with the same abilities he has. This story gets better and better. Wow there were a lot of twists and plots at Isaac's Police Department and also at Sidney's work at the shelter. I like that Sidney has found her purpose in life. I don't want to give away all the plots that are brewing in this book of Isaac Taylor Mysteries, but I can't wait to read the next story in this series. I would highly recommend this series and especially this book. I love this series if I didn't already say it, I am saying it again. Lashell Collins keeps up the good work; I truly love your writing.
Curses, family drama, and wedding mishaps! How will Sidney and Ike make it down the aisle?
This was a sweet and fun read. I just love this world and all the characters in it! This entry into the series while enjoyable was very light, on Ike’s police work which is usually a major focal point of the these stories. While that might be a negative for some, it didn’t bother me much because we got to spend lots of time with Ike and Sid and they’re the best. I love Ike in all his awkwardness. He loves Sid fiercely and his grumpiness with the rest of the world is hilarious. I also enjoyed the fact that the focus was really on these two in this entry. While we still checked in with the characters in this world, it wasn’t for very long like it was in some of the previous books.
While the police stuff was light, we do learn more about Natalie and it’s all bad! She seems to be the ongoing drama through each book and I’m sitting on pins and needles to see what happens with her when it comes to a climax.
All in all, another solid entry in the series, and I can’t wait for the next entry to spend more time with Ike and Sid!
The wedding. Yep, they are getting married. She ends up having every reason to be Bridezilla but not sweet Sydney. Meanwhile, Ike has more going on at work and we're not just talking cases. It is a busy time with both families, surprise visits, surprises. It is the week before the wedding and Issac is still working so he can spend his time off on the honeymoon.
It wouldn't be a Lashell Collins book if there wasn't some danger and some physic play going on. Never fear just read to find out.
Their love is touching. Their families mixed with support and separation. The question with all going on is--will the wedding really take place? Read to find out. I've been told this is the best one yet and I have to agree. Reviewed for Words Turn Me On.
I love this series...Ike has grown so much since meeting Sidney and Sidney has blossomed with the love she receives from Ike. Both have families that love them dearly however we all have that one family member that you just want to ignore, hide or just plain not acknowledge them...No one family is perfect, Ike and Sydney definitely will discover just how much patience they truly have....or lack there of. We learn more about some of the other people in the book although their stories never takes the shine away from the main characters. The book is entertaining and sometimes pulls at your heart...Well Done Ms. Collins.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Isaac and Sidney are planning their wedding. As a police detective Isaac already has a stressful job – now is no exception. Sidney works at a woman’s shelter which frequently has its own issues.
Each secondary character comes to life, as they too are given a robust backdrop and move forward in their lives.
The theme of the curse flows through multiple story veins. The craft of words and development of character provide the reader the ultimate enjoyable experience in this story, and entire series.
**I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book**
Keep them coming! I love Sidney and Isaac and the wonderful supernatural dynamic of their love and life. This book like the previous six will keep you engaged, excited and eagerly seeking the next event in their lives. You will love the family and friendship dynamic and desire to be included in Sidney and Isaac circle of friends. The lovemaking is intense, sizzling hot and passionate. I also find Isaac's work incredibly and exciting. Looking forward to book number7. Overall an excellent book.
Yet another awesome part of Isaac and Sidney's ongoing passions and adventures. I especially loved this one because of a personal fascination with urban legends and legends/lore/curses. The creative twists that Ms. Collins puts to this well-loved PNR trope are absolutely riveting to read. Besides Isaac and Sid's growing love saga (OMG; ALL THE FEELS!), I also love where this author is going with both the secondary couples for this series. It's an ever-expanding world that just gets better and better with each new read.
This read was the penultimate romantic novel! It was extremely romantic with just a smidgen of sex that verified the sensual Ness of their relationship without turning into a smaltzy, pornographic connotation of their meaningful relationship. I especially enjoyed the references to the topography of the city I've called home high 80 years. Thank you Ms. Collins!
I love Sydney and Isaac, but am a little disappointed this time. It felt like I was in the ocean waiting on a wave that never came. NO! Sneak peak also disappointing. We waited months for this book and looks like we'll be waiting months for the next one. Please, do not waste the time. Give us something more.
This series is just simple wonderful. I can't get enough of Sid and Ike but I'm also glad we got to see the love life of the other smaller characters. The emotions these two brings out in me or should I say the author brings out in me is rare. I hope the love and growth continues in the most amazing way with these two.
This just keeps getting better and better, each book I've devoured is just so good. I just can't shut up about these books to my book buddies 😃, so glad that I have discovered you. An excellent read with full enjoyable characters can't wait to read the next in the series.
I love this series and I can't say enough good things about it. The characters really become like real friends the more books you read. Can't wait for the "twins" ( hint...lol) to come along. And please make them identical 😉.
I have absolutely adored Ike and Sid's love story, it has been so compelling! They and all the people around them, family and job, are a wonderful layer of storytelling that keeps you intrigued from first word to last. Thank you and can't wait for what's ahead 💗
Telekinetic Detective . This book was very sweet.. but the mystery and his use of his psychic powers was non existent in this book. I still enjoyed it and ran through it in one night bc i love this series.
CURSES & VOWS: A Psychic Detective Romantic Mystery is the 6th book in Lashell Collins’ An Isaac Taylor Mystery series. I discovered these excellent stories in 2024, and I am slowly making my way through the catalogue. I am not looking forward to reading the last available one and sincerely hope that others follow. This particular book is light on action but takes our beloved couple and their extended family and friends deeper into relationships and character development. The mystery of the day involves what appears to be a random spree of shootings and plans for the wedding of the century 😊 are in full swing. I love Ike and Sydney’s sweetly supportive relationship and Ike’s never-failing thankfulness that he has true love in his formerly barren life, le sigh. Another great entry in the series. https://theretiredreader.com/read-for...
