Despite having been warned by her mother that love and desire are two very different things, Esa McCullum learns that lesson the hard way. After giving herself to a man she fancies herself in love with, the discovery that he loves another pushes her down a different path. Determined to put men and all their complications behind her, she devotes her life to being a healer—a choice that leads her to the most complicated man of all.

Father Braigh MacAllister is a man who lives by his faith and his sword, but the archbishop has issued an ultimatum: to lay down his sword or lay down his frock. After being wounded in battle, he finds himself in Esa’s capable—and tempting—hands. Now torn between two worlds, Braigh must make a decision that could change both their lives forever.

About the author

Suzan Tisdale

USA Today Bestselling Author, storyteller and cheeky wench, SUZAN TISDALE lives in the Midwest with her verra handsome carpenter husband. All but one of her children have left the nest. Her pets consist of dust bunnies and a dozen poodle-sized, backyard-dwelling groundhogs – all of which run as free and unrestrained as the voices in her head. And she doesn’t own a single pair of yoga pants, much to the shock and horror of her fellow authors. She prefers to write in her pajamas.
Suzan writes Scottish historical romance/fiction, with honorable and perfectly imperfect heroes and strong, feisty heroines. And bad guys she kills off in delightfully wicked ways.
She published her first novel, Laiden’s Daughter, in December, 2011, as a gift for her mother. That one book started a journey which has led to more than twenty published titles. To date, she has sold more than 750,000 copies of her books around the world. They have been translated into Italian, French, German, and Spanish.
You will find her books in digital, paperback, and audiobook formats.

Soo Good

Once again, Suzan Tisdale has written a story that makes you feel the same heartache, joy, fear and finally love right along with the characters.

I liked this book. you instantly fall in love with the characters and not just the main characters. You love the villagers as much as Esa does. All the Emotions are in this book. Excitement, lust, love, heart ache, heart break, longing, and triumph. If you've not read anything by Suzan Tisdale pick this one up. It's a short read and will whet your appetite for more.

This was a tough story for me to read because how it portrays a faith. I am reviewing this on the story itself.

The story has violence and suspense. Some parts of the clans fighting or coming together were just glossed over and I wanted more in depth for actions and reasons.

I must admit the story of a loving older couple made me cry. It was written with such feeling, warmth and love I felt their anguish and sadness.

This is a clean story. I didn't feel any romance in the story. The h leaves when her family is off fighting and they needed her in case her healing skills were needed. That seemed out of character for someone who was to have a caring heart.

No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, no romance and clean. Even though book 2 of the series, it is a stand alone. (ljb)

Every emotion!

I truly ran the gambit of emotions reading this story.
The carefree joy of childhood, the frustration of a teen, the sorrow of a love not returned, and the happiness that can be found in life.
Don't miss this story. Susan Disease has gifted a great story to enjoy once again.

This is one of these stories where I'm on the fence whether I liked the story or not. The romance part is practically nil which is what bothers me the most. There is a lot of sadness in the story so be ready with a box of tissues....I sobbed at some parts. There's also violence which goes with the times of that era and local.

Braigh is a priest so there is a lot of religious beliefs throughout the story and being in his middle thirties, he's much older than Esa who only thinks of him as "Father Braigh". He suddenly finds himself questioning his priesthood and his feelings for Esa. She, on the other hand, has compromised herself with another man and it's not until the very end that she thinks she "might" be in love with Braigh.

I really do believe this could have been a much better story.

Exceptional!!

Another smash hit!! An excellent read.
Susan did it again. Loved Esa who is confused and unsure of what her feelings really were.
Beauty was confused and unsure what he was to do with his feelings.
Time and trails taking there till together they found each other and found love was there all along!

I liked how the story began, but it felt stale towards the middle and onward. I was looking forward to seeing Braigh's story since he was a warrior and a priest. I wish there was more action in it involving him. We got to see the faith side but not the warrior side. I don't feel like there was much romance either. He fell in love with her and then they got married. It didn't give me the feels I wanted, but it was a decent story. Very practical and realistic.

Another five star book from Suzan Tisdale

I love that even in the tensest, most dire circumstances, Suzan gives her characters some lightness; some humor. It keeps the situation and the people grounded in reality and makes the reader really feel for them. Not everyone gets their happy ending, but that keeps it real, too.

had it all

This book had it all. Mystery, action, emotional and was very interesting. Parts were very tense but afterward an idea of relief. Esa was brave, loving, and silly at times. Looking forward to the next daughter’s story!
