Dean wakes disoriented, his hands covered in blood.
He realizes he must have had another seizure, and it’s stolen all memories of what happened.
Given his history of violence during his episodes, fear immediately sets in.
And when his step-mother enters the room and screams, he notices his father’s bloody corpse on the bed.
When questioned by the detective investigating the case, what unravels is a story of deception, infidelity, and revenge that rivals any Hollywood film.
But will she believe his story?
He’s not even sure he does.
And when he’s released on bail, things only get more confusing and convoluted.
Things are not as they appear.
With his inability to remember anything leading up to the murder, Dean can only hope the truth comes out before he spends the rest of his life behind bars...or worse.
A thrilling psychological thriller that you won't be able to put down
This was not what I expected, but I enjoyed it! The title is misleading. It is actually about a man waking up from a seizure covered in blood with his dead father lying near him. He is promptly arrested for murder but clues actually suggest that his young stepmother is the culprit. What follows is the mystery that leads up to the murder as well as following the clues to determine either his innocence or guilt. I do feel that was a little too repetitive at times and the book could have been shorter. But I love Theo’s books and am on a mission to read all of them!
One of the worst books I’ve ever read. Not only is it repetitive, but there were numerous misspellings throughout the book. How does that even happen? One being a character’s name, Melissa. Also spelled Melisa throughout. Just bizarre. Not great writing, either. I skimmed the last 30% of the book.
This is an awesome super thriller. Kept me thoroughly engrossed and what an unexpected brilliant twist in the climax. It's definitely a must read thriller. Dean Andros is an ex-professor who has frequent attacks of seizures and doesn't remember anything that takes place during his panic attack. He wakes up to find his hands covered in blood. He discovers his father's dead body and the murder weapon has his fingerprints. Has he really killed his father or has someone framed him taking advantage of his seizures? Who is the actual killer, Dean or his stepmother Melissa? Do read this book. It's full of surprises.
Received as an audio copy to review from the narrator Dan Delgado, this is an honest review. With an amazing performance anchoring this harrowing story, elevates Theo Baxter's book it's into a something else that won't be forgotten. Forced back into his childhood home and back into a space with his abusive father; it's his father's new wife that gives Dean solace in the man's shitty future. When his chronic epilepsy disease surfaces and he blackouts, Dean is plunged into a living nightmare as he's desperate to get the detectives assigned to uncover who killed Dean's asshole of a father. The back story that leads the reader to the shocking truth is one heck of a twisted affair that leaves blood on everyone's hands.
Oh. My. Frigging. Lord. You’ve got to grab a copy of this kick-ass book RIGHT NOW!! Theo Baxter has gifted us with a psychological thriller that just won’t quit. The storyline will blow your mind into next week; the characters are truly crazy like foxes; the plot twists and turns definitely will have you shaking your head; and the ending! Ohmigod...how do you know it’s over? It still has me shaking my head and wondering if I’ll ever be able to sleep again! GET THIS BOOK ... you’ll be so glad you did. (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and absolutely loved it! ) ❤️❤️
Just ok, not a suspenseful thrill ride like some of Baxter’s other books. The “shocking twist” wasn’t actually that big of a shock. The killer seemed pretty straight forward, even if it took the police a lot of work to actually prove it. I was definitely intrigued once Melissa and Dean begin their torrid affair, can they keep it a secret from a man who seems to control everything. Once Melissa became outright delusional and manipulative of Dean, it seemed obvious what the outcome would be. The ending kind of lost me and felt a little dull!
I only gave this book 4 stars because it was a little slow to start. I had some trouble getting into it, but I am glad I stuck with it because WOW!!!! This was one heck of a read. I mean all of the plot twists and turns I really did not see these coming. This was a new author for me and I have to say that I am loving what I read so far. I can not wait to see what I can find new from him.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Wow!! Great characters, great overall story. A few twists you don't see coming. I will say, it took a little time to get invested in this story. There were a few present then back story back to present that weren't clearly marked. A few grammatical errors but nothing that made it impossible to read. About halfway thru the book, the pace really picked up & I couldn't put it down. Overall a good read.
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
This was a great psychological thriller. Dean getting fired for having that affair, and having to move back in with his difficult father. Falling in love with his stepmother, and having an affair with her. Then she switched his seizure medication with aspirin. The ending was the best. Melisa didn’t kill Carson Dean did. Thank you for your writing.
I enjoy a good who dunit and for the most part it kept me interested. The one thing that annoys me is when the author continually rehashes the same feelings emotions over and over. The book is worth reading.
First time reading Theo Baxter and I liked the 1st person narration, but the story was just to bland and didn't do it for me. Story seemed to drag on. Ending was pretty decent.
LOVED THIS BOOK. I could NOT put it down. What a mind bender. I LOVE the main character..... and his thoughts while telling you his story. Awesome page turner! Happy reading!
