A paranormal phenomenon, a mysterious curse, and an old town with a sinister past.
When Amber finds a miraculously low-priced house for rent, what she thought was the solution to all of her problems becomes the beginning of her worst nightmare.
After reading the first 20 chapters I found that this book was too repetitive in what was happening on a day-to-day basis in the story. The same things would seem to happen over and over, which made this book a very boring and dull read.
An excellent example of how to tell a story really badly!
Hard to read, wanders aimlessly from scene to scene, hinting at mysteries never completely explained. A psychiatrist who not only talks about his deceased client but labels her a crazy liar? The supposed villain is an x who did something so vile that she threw him out although everyone loved him. Never know what it was, or why she was afraid of him. The big bad ending scene is pulled out of a hat, and the deux st machine is equally presented. Not quite the worst I have read late!y, alas. The true villain is exactly who you think it is.
This was a very sweet book ending like it should tell you what you keep writing them and ill keep reading them sincerely Christine Dunne Harlingen Texas
While this ideal if you want to read something that doesn’t tax your brain, it’s hardly a ghost story. Random plot threads go nowhere, such as the strange town folk who don’t remember the main character who only moved eight years ago.
This is book twenty three of the Riveting Haunted House Mystery series and the main character is Amber Hayden Prentiss, who lost her husband Vic (Victor) just a few months ago. They have a young daughter Em (Emmy) and when they were planning for a family, they decided to move to Bethel, from their home in Greenpond, for cheaper housing and a better chance for jobs and opportunities. But after the sudden death of her husband, she feels pulled to return to her childhood home town. She doesn’t have the funds to buy, so looked online for rental listings and suddenly found one for a whole house well within her budget, but there must be something wrong with it! The rental agent Jamie doesn’t really reveal much and once she sends back a signed agreement, the house and any of its issues, are all hers. Amber has had a number of issues to deal with over her short lifetime, with her parents sending her to a psychiatrist from an early age, because of the voices she hears. They then left her at her gran’s and went off for an adventure, but never came back for her! She had continued seeing a therapist until her husband’s death and then had other things to do. What the voices are saying, is pulling her away from Bethel and uprooting her daughter’s life, to follow the voices to Greenpond and a chance to restart their lives. Some odd things happen in the house, with doors closing in a mysterious round turret room on the top floor, leaving her daughter stuck inside and Amber unable to get in, until the door suddenly reopens. Emmy makes a new friend Tilly, but is it just a childhood imaginary friend or a ghost, which Amber isn’t quite sure she believes in. It seems Emmy is talking to someone she believes is real and even Amber is hearing singing and voices, and even seeing some strange shapes in reflections. There are so many rooms in this house, which it is much bigger than advertised, raising more questions about its past history and what may have occurred there. She makes friends with a young woman in one of the shops, Kyla, and together they try to work out what has happened in the house. Kyla is a psychic medium and also had a pull towards Greenpond and that house, but failed to rent it for herself when she arrived, as it was for sale only. They find out that a young mother was supposed to have stabbed her daughter to death and then set the home alight, dying in the fire herself. The knife was never found, but since the mother was thought to be unhinged, she was held to fault very easily and the case was closed. The house was apparently repaired by the insurers, but the items in the house seem to be original, not replacements or repaired. Nothing quite seems to add up properly and questioning people in this small and close knit town, brings more dangers than either of them could comprehend. A new start might become her worst nightmare as a past event at her new home, hasn’t been fully resolved and the spirits are restless! An interesting haunted house tale, which brings together two young women, pulled to the same place to use their talents and inner voices, to find the truth. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
I'm classing this as horror because that's what ghost stories with dead kids usually are, but this is more like a cozy ghost story--I just don't have a shelf for that. (Should I?)
This was...fine. I just felt like there were a lot of opportunities for it to be better. There were threads that never went anywhere, and in theory, that's fine. Not every thread has to be woven back in. But there were a couple of things that were focused on that never went anywhere, and if they're not going to matter, why focus so hard on them? I'm not talking about deliberate red herrings, but relatively small pieces that still got referenced over and over again. If something is mentioned more than three times, I'm going to expect it to go somewhere, and several of those leads just...fizzled. I also really expected to be more important than it was.
The above spoiler folds into my issue with the ending, which seemed awfully anti-climatic. I was prepared for all kinds of twists, depending on which of the loose threads I've mentioned turned out to be important in the end, but instead, it fell flat. The reveal really wasn't that shocking, and the story's big ending was over so quickly I thought there had to be another twist coming, but there wasn't.
I really feel like like it would have benefited from being at least 1/3 again longer so that some of the concepts could have been more fully explored and the characters rounded out. There were a lot of good ideas in here that just needed some more time and attention to be great.
I don't want it to sound like I didn't like this, because I did--I just wanted to love it.
"The girl dreams of dandelions dancing in the grass. Their stems reach quietly toward the clear, blue sky. All is quiet and calm, her body heavy and relaxed. "
A new author read for me.
Well, you see, this is a story about a haunted house... BUT not your typical scary horror. More a bit of drama and mystery. Great story, well-developed plot, and characters.
I would recommend this for cozy mystery and horror readers.
I enjoyed the plot line, and I must say it did not end up the way I thought it was going to end. There were several candidates for the guilty party to choose from. I even thought the author might have the main character go crazy and do something awful! The plot moves along at a nice pace, however at times the prose was a little over descriptive. I really didn't need to be in on all the minutia of wardrobe choices of the characters or performing household chores or describing cleaning the dusty teacup. I suppose in some manner it added to the atmosphere, but seemed tedious at times. Overall I enjoyed reading the book and would read other works by this author.
I love a good horror. This book was ok, but not terrifying. I really got caught up in the typos and lack of fine editing in this book. I read it in Kindle unlimited and maybe it just wasn't edited well before publishing. It that sentences that were printed twice back to back. I wish there was a way to submit the mistakes so they could update the book.
Overall it was an interesting story and reminiscent of Guillermo's Devils backbone. The spirits are not evil, confusing and scary yes, but not evil.
Characters are likable, but pretty straight forward. Chapters were short and easily read. I would recommend this one for a quick relax before bed.
The Haunting of the House on Greenpond Road: A Riveting Haunted House Mystery (A Riveting Haunted House Mystery Series Book 23) by Abigail Rose which I read under the name of The Haunting of the House on Greenpond Road by Skylar Finn is an awesome story to read. This is book number twenty three in this awesome series that I have been hooked on since the beginning. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about cozy mysteries, thrillers and suspense.

This was a fun read. Amber a newly widowed young mother decides to take her daughter Emmy and move back to her home town. Typically if it seems to be too good to be true it is. Finding a beautiful old house for decent rent she soon realizes she and her daughter aren't the only ones living there. A paranormal adventure awaits, the question is will they survive it. A definite page turner.
While this novel had a decent story line, I was let down by the climax and ending of the novel. I felt that there so was much detail leading up to the climax, but once you got to it, it was rushed.
I really enjoyed the characters, they were all complex and developed well. I wish the author would have touched on the progression of Amber's mental health struggles at the ending, as this is a subject that isn't covered very often.
FIne ghost story that told more about humans who creat terror more than any ghosts. Fine character development also. This will not keep you up at night but it will keep you interested
Or or for the female characters. A good read for those who worry about bumps in the night . I do not believe in ghosts so this was easier to read
This is a great story, with memorable characters (though there could have been a shade more character development). There is a bit of pretentiousness in some word and phrase choices, but the quality and originality of the storyline make up for that. Looking forward to reading more by this author
This is what I would consider a "cozy" horror story. Meaning it isn't disgustingly gross with over the top, gory descriptions. Not too scary, and appropriate for all ages because there is no sex or adult language. Good for taking your mind off things and relaxing before bed.
The best part of this story was the house - fireplace, turret, basement. I wish I could see it. I got bored with the story. It was very simplistic without much depth and little suspense. There were also a number of errors, which distracted from what little story there was. It did made me crave grilled cheese sandwiches.
The Haunting of the House on Greenpond Road Skylar Finn as Abigail Rose This book will definitely grab your attention! It's got drama galore! A great, fast paced read!

I love paranormal reads and this one did not disappoint. I enjoyed the characters very much and that there weren’t a lot of different ones to keep track of. Would highly recommend.
Loved this book about a friendship With strong women
I loved the book because it had strong women leads with their single parent angle. Also the twist at the end was unexpected. First read on my new kindle.🙂
Fun, spooky, girl-powered and empowering ghost-story with plenty of friendship and zero make heroes to the rescue. Absolutely refreshing!! Sex-free, gore-free, nd just spooky enough!!
For me this is a 4 star rating because some of the story seemed to drag a bit here and there. Otherwise, the story is captivating and has great twists and turns. Well worth your time.
I enjoyed the ebook so much I could not put it down. It was scary but it also had a sweet quality to it that I believe the wonderful characters had a lot to do with it. I can't wait to read the next one.
I loved every minute of this story... in fact, I had trouble closing the cover to get some sleep! The author kept me interested with a smooth storyline and very believable characters. I look forward to reading more from her!
This has a good plot with likeable characters and a good twist I did not see coming. I read over the course of a few weeks on the bus to and from my weekly shop. I look forward to read more from this author.
I had a hard time getting into this book. I finally had to do a lot of skimming to get to the point. It droned on about stuff that it didn't need to. Like the writer was just trying to fill pages.
The clues, the visions and descriptions of the house made me want to live in that house. The girls were very good at figuring out about the murders and believe they had figured out who was who too. Thank you for such a rely good story
They found a large house with cheap rent and didn't know if came with ghosts.
This book kept me turning pages longer then I wanted. It's a little on the long side but hard to put down. If you like paranormal stories then you enjoy this story.
This was somehow unexpected when compared with others I have read in the series. Whilst it took me a little longer to warm to it, I am grateful to have stayed because the depth and warmth of the story made it totally worthwhile.
