This was between 4-5 stars for me.

I feel like this series knows what it wants to do, but doesn’t implement it as good as it could. I feel like since it’s an action fantasy with harem/fanservice themes with all the different female squads there could be a lot more fanservice. Whenever there’s more fetish stuff happening I don’t care and want to move past it because I’m just a fan of the female form but this volume seemed to move away from that slightly, and move to just nudity in different perspectives more so. I think this series needs to focus more on either the drama or focus on fanservice because it gets predictable and then kinda boring waiting for the next fanservice or action sequence only to be kinda letdown on occasion.

Not a lot going on for the baddies in this tankoubon of Chained Soldier, but stakes were still present. Kyouka now has two additional rivals within Demon Defense Corps to put up with over Yuuki, both from outside of her division with one of them, the Supreme Commander, causing him to become an out-of-control monster when borrowing him off Kyouka, making things more interesting than ever as the story now begs the question, "How to draw the line between who's has the right kind of power in controlling a slave and who doesn't even during a time of war?" Another rivalry got played up a bit: that between Shushu and romantically-obsessed Tenka, but fortunately, during a moment of peril, the story didn't hesitate to have the two temporarily put aside their differences to save Yuuki from the Shuki with Tenka taking the credit for back-up, evolving a working relationship all while the divisions of Demon Defense Corps are in joint training period, preparing for a coming battle with the 8 big evil lords. While not much was done for Nei in terms of character arc, it was nice that she got a heart-melting moment, which was also well played for laughs as her cuddling in bed with Yuuki turned out to be a sleepwalking antic bringing awkwardness for the slave himself. Anyway, I look forward to seeing more of the baddies, more of Shushu's sexual pursuit of Yuuki, more heartwarming moments with Nei, another major character arc moment for Himari (who didn't get much to do), and how Yuuki's latest ordeal will bring bad blood between Kyouka and Supreme Commander, all in the next tankoubon of Chained Soldier.

I’m surprised between all the fan service which hey I’m not complaining it’s awesome the story is progressing at great pace! The new forms go crazy and the ending cliffhanger is great. I do hope they save his sister soon though
