Tara Hart is not pleased to be moving back to her tiny hometown of Windfall, Nevada. But losing her job means she needs to move back with her mom until she finds something else to do. Her old Honda dies right before she enters town, 10 minutes away from home, just as she had been thinking that after 10 years, she was returning in the same condition as she left – broke, jobless, and single. A truck drove up and a sexy man, dressed like a cowboy but with even his boots spotlessly clean, sauntered up. But she figured he wasn’t a real cowboy, probably had never even been on a ranch, and his condescending attitude made her angry, so she refused the ride he offered her and he drove away.
Tara closed her eyes, thought of her car coming back to life, felt warmth rise in her stomach, and she let out a surprised sneeze – and her engine sputtered, ready to take her home! What was that all about? Unfortunately, bad luck is still not through with her yet as she is about to become a suspect in a murder! The victim they at first thought died of a heart attack was actually poisoned… and last meal came from the café. Of course Tara had been the last person seen touching the cake as she served it to Hank. So Sheriff Ryan West, whom Tara had thought was the wannabe cowboy in pristine jeans and boots when she first met him, is now questioning her.
So with her newfound magical abilities, two elderly witchy and hilarious godmothers, and a snarky chicken as her familiar, Tara has to find the real killer. And maybe she will stick around town a little longer to get to know Ryan better.
This is a fun mystery with lots of laughs and wonderful characters. Grab your copy and see if Tara can discover the murderer without getting in even more trouble.
Solid 4.5 star This was a fun read in the first of this series, I really liked Tara and felt for how stuck in life she felt but best friends Esmeralda and Melusia are just what they need not only as Esmeralda gives her a job at her Cafe but the dear old gals work out why she has always felt a bit out of place with her adoptive family. While learning about witches and spells as well as dealing with her hilariously eccentric Mum, a high and might Hen familiar Henrietta Tara, Esmeralda and Melusia try to solve the town murder so they aren't fingered for the job is a lot whilst also trying to dodge the good looking Sheriff Ryan. This has loads of laughs, characters you will love and a story that has you turning the page not only to see Tara get use to being a witch but also needing to know who really did kill Hank! I can not wait for the next in the series to see what crazy antics these ladies get up to.

Our heroine did not want to go to her hometown in the first place, and getting accused of murder is not making her want to stay.
This is book one of the series, so a good place to start.
Another cozy witch mystery series. Yum! It happens that I really enjoy this genre, so this is all good in my book (put semi-intended). The story is well written and easy to read with a fun cast of characters to bring our story to life. We get the usual blend of quirky characters, intriguing mystery and a bit of magic all with a nice dose of humor. The setting is also nicely done with that small town fell that is both comforting and cramped at the same time (at least to me). Overall, it was a fun story and a nice introduction to the series. I am definitely looking forward to more.
Highly recommended

Seriously, how can you go wrong with writing in a snarky chicken familiar? This book had me laughing out loud at points between the familiar and the godmothers. The relationship among the protagonist and her witchy godmothers was entertaining throughout; I always prefer a low-key lady-gang rather than a lone-wolf female protagonist. It seems to keep the spark alive in a series much longer, so kudos to the author! I usually prefer a slightly longer mystery, but an enjoyable quick read regardless. Definitely will be picking up the next book!

Returning to your small hometown after losing your job, being broke, and driving a junk heap of a car isn't the best start for a new life. On the bright side, you discover you're a Witch and you have a talking familiar, it's a pity it's a chicken with an attitude problem. A laugh-out-loud romp filled with crazy characters magic a possible romance and of course murder. A fun read not to be missed, Baz.
This book was so close to home but I wish I could have got powers when I returned home the same way I left but I could live without Tara's familiar the chicken but I think That's what made it so funny to me. I would recommend this book to everyone I know.

Received this as a freebie. Really enjoyed the story. I think that it will be fun as the heroine, Tara, grows and learns her 'trade'. Will read more from this author.
Quick read. Protagonist moves back home to decide how to proceed after losing her job. She ends up with witchy powers and a chicken familiar, both of which help her solve a murder mystery.
