Kathryn Moon is a country mouse who started dictating stories to her mother at an early age. The fascination with building new worlds and discovering the lives of the characters who grew in her head never faltered, and she graduated college with a fiction writing degree. She loves writing women were are strong in their vulnerability, romances that are as affectionate as they are challenging, and worlds that a reader sinks into and never wants to leave. When her hands aren't busy typing they're probably knitting sweaters or crimping pie crust in Ohio. She definitely believes in magic.

⤅ An incredibly unusual book, in both amazing and less amazing ways.
I've been greatly looking forward to reading this. Eve, the alpha hitwoman, is a character whose story I've been dying for since she first appeared in book one. Partially because I've been anticipating her so highly, this book wasn't quite everything I hoped it would be. To be clear, Kathryn Moon is still an AMAZING author, and I've no doubt the majority of people will fall in love with her story. I just wanted more for Eve.
I'm going to go through my thoughts - which may get a little rambly and philosophical at times, I apologise in advance. Okay, so to follow along with my review, you'll need a quick plot summary first. Eve (late 30s) is an assassin, and her latest target is a young man named Adam, whom she encounters being menaced by another alpha at a bar. When they meet, she realises he's actually an omega. Biology kicks in, she takes him back to her hotel room - and he (sort of) manipulates her into biting him, creating an unbreakable emotional bond between them. He knew someone was coming to kill him, and this was the only way he could think of to protect himself.
Eve ends up deciding not to kill Adam, and she flees with him to her safe houses. She realises though that she's not really cut out to be someone's caretaking alpha - she's 'feral', independent, and can't give Adam the emotional stuff he needs. So she calls up Wes (one of Lola's guys from book 2) and requests a security detail. It's her plan all along to turn them into packmates so she can push Adam off onto them and take off on her own. Enter Garrett, Rory and Jamie, three good-guy alphas who will be their security. Garrett takes the Adam-bait almost instantly, while Rory and Jamie are interested in Evie. The rest of the book is them trying to elude Adam's pursuers while working out their places in each other's lives.
✔️ To start with the good: I love, love, LOVE Eve's character. She's an incredible heroine - stubborn, wild, independent, everything I imagined an alpha female in an omegaverse novel to be. This is a bit of a double-edged sword though, because it makes most of the heroes look worse in comparison. But we'll get onto that later...
✔️ Moon's writing, as ever, is technically flawless. Crisp, clear, descriptive, free of typos. It was her writing style which first drew me in, all those books ago, and that hasn't changed.
✔️ Up until about 70% of the way through, when my attention wandered a little, I was very invested in the action. Eve did do something oddly stupid at one point, at odds with my assumption she wasn't actively suicidal, but I think that can be explained away as her stubbornly independent alpha nature, so I can roll with it.
✔️ I think this was a good number of characters - four heroes total and one heroine. A much better number to handle than in the previous book, which I think had seven characters total.
❌ Unfortunately, my biggest issues lie with most of the heroes... and from thence, the romance. Let's start with Adam. He constantly struck me as really selfish. I know the omega character has this, to an extent - but Adam's first reaction to almost EVERYTHING was 'what does this mean for me'? Like, 'Eve's hurt - what happens to me now?' Or 'Someone else is interested sexually in Eve - how do I feel about this, ignoring the fact I'm also having sex with someone else?' I couldn't help but compare Adam to Rake, the author's last male omega, and Adam came out seriously lacking. Rake is self-interested, sure, but in a sort of charmingly open way, and his self-interest is largely bound up with Lola's happiness. Adam comes across as being largely interested in Adam's happiness. I realise Eve isn't the easiest person to love, but she makes a lot of sacrifices for Adam, and I honestly didn't feel like he appreciated them.
❌ Adam however pales in comparison to Garrett, whom I loathe with the power of a thousand suns. From the outset, he explicitly tries to act 'the opposite of how Eve does'. It doesn't matter that Adam and Eve chose each other, that she's kept him alive - Garrett swoops in and is all 'I'm the perfect alpha, Eve is lacking, she needs to learn from me'. His POV is all about the 'lectures' he needs to give her on treating Adam properly, as if he has the right to insert himself into their relationship!!! I wanted to smack him. He's the first person to 'snap' and 'growl' at Eve when he thinks she's making Adam upset. He really sets himself as the good alpha in comparison to Eve, the bad alpha, in a way I honestly found intolerable. He had no right to interfere like that.
❌ His relationship with Eve also feels lacklustre and mechanical. They have sex, but it doesn't feel like either of them actually are interested in each other. Garrett only cares about Eve because she's his conduit to Adam, and she only cares about Garrett because she's selected him for Adam.
❌ I recognise that this next point is PURELY subjective and personal, so it hasn't impacted my star rating, but I'm just not interested in pegging (something which was included in this book). Also sex where the woman is always the one in control (femdom, I guess?). Obviously, YMMV, and this point may be what drives someone else to go read this book straightaway.
❌ This book has crystallised to me the fact that I don't like reading about heroes who fall in love with more people than just the heroine at one time. Let me back up and explain. I, and a lot of people, love RH because the heroine tends to be the focus of attention; even if there's M/M, she's usually the only female in the group. I really enjoyed Lola's book partially because although the heroes were a sexual unit before they met her, they clearly felt 'unfinished', which is why they were having sex outside the pack. Lola was the only new addition to the pack, all the focus was on her, and on each of the heroes developing a relationship with her. Here however Adam is also a new addition. So we have Adam falling in love with Eve plus Garrett, and Garrett falling in love (or 'love') with Adam plus Eve.
❌ Watching this split described in real time weakened the romance. Adam and Garrett felt like their own self-contained unit; there are references to Eve leaving them alone because they wouldn't want her right now, and they often seem closer to each other than they are to everyone else, including Eve. In RH I would either like all the relationships to appear roughly equal, or for the closest connection to be to the heroine. Not to another hero. Did I make sense in these paragraphs? I'm not 100% sure I did, but I hope I got my point across. Moon did try to reinforce the fact that Eve and Garrett are equal in Adam's eyes, but materially it didn't feel that way.
❌ My last point: I would have liked to learn more about Eve's past. Like I said, I think she's a fascinating character, and could have been explored a little further. Also, I've just remembered that Rory was described as having a black beard with a grey stripe running through it, and now I'm just picturing him as a badger...
⤅ Conclusion
This got long - but then, I thought it would! I know it looks like I've totted up more negatives than positives, but I DID give this book 4 stars, and until Garrett appeared I thought I might actually give it 5. So I did seriously enjoy it, I recommend it to anyone looking for an unusual omegaverse book, and I'm intrigued to see where the series goes next.
Yooooooooo! I knew this book was going to be bomb because: -I trust Kathryn Moon with my life -She writes reverse harems like they’re going out of style -The Sweet Omegaverse is my home -I love psycho heroines
But of course, you’re always nervous when you read a book in a series you love (Lola and the Millionaires is my #1 COMFORT READ) just incase it doesn’t live up. But don’t worry, guys! It does! Also, Lola/Matthieu/Wes cameo. Gah.
We met Eve in Lola’s books, she was the assassin Matthieu/Wes hired. She’s a feral alpha who prefers to live and work alone, and at the start of this book she has a new target: a beta named Adam. Only Adam turns out to be an omega with an addicting scent… and Eve is temporarily thrown off her game…
I loved all the guys. I loved how each of them balanced Eve perfectly. I loved the storyline, which was actually more action packed than either of the previous books, as Eve & Co are working to take down a whole sex trafficking organization whereas the other books were more quiet about finding a place where you belong.
I thought the melding of action and character/relationship development was great - I was constantly on the edge of my seat and couldn’t put it down. I am high on vibes right now but I’ll be making a TikTok on this when it’s closer to release date.
Also… the epilogue and post-epilogue page about what’s next… never stop feeding me Sweet Omegaverse stories, KM.
TW: on page violence/murder, sex trafficking
This is an ARC and the books planned release date is 11/16. Plenty of time for you guys to read Baby and the Late Night Howlers and Lola and the Millionaires 1 & 2 before then!!
Not what I expected. I totally disliked Alpha female Eve. She was rude, manipulative and a total bitch to her Omega and the rest of the Alphas. And to every other human being to be honest. The writing style is very good, but I almost did not finish the book.
“For a brief moment, my own luck struck me, hard and quick. I was not a woman who deserved these men. I was not an alpha who ought to have a claim on an omega. I was not a good person. But I had chosen this pack, not quite for myself, and they were proud to be mine. I was proud to be theirs too.“
What an amazing journey Kathryn Moon gifted us with in this story. I already knew she was an excellent writer but she surpassed herself with Bad Alpha. The way she evolved the plot, relationships and characters felt impecable. I’m in total awe of her talent.
Eve had fascinated me from the moment she showed up in Lola’s books, I was anticipating her story very much, and thus I was worried I might be disappointed. But Bad Alpha actually surpassed my expectations.
I loved Eve’s character development the most in the story. The little glints at her past and backstory broke my heart and helped to understand Eve so much. And the fact that she was The Alpha for real in all situations, god that was hot.
The idea that female Alphas have a “lock” fascinated me. And mixing the lock with male alphas’ knots was out of this world explosively hot.
I loved how Eve ended up bonded to all the alphas plus Adam, and Adam only bonded one of them plus Eve. It was nice to get the focus on her and for once it felt very genuine and organic, not forced or awkward at all. And I loved that.
Adam was one of the best male omegas I’ve ever read. I loved the fact that he was a con artist, how he used all his resources to trick people. How he was willing to go as far as necessary to find his sister, but before that, to save all those omegas. I just loved his relationship with Eve, the way their intimacy increased and their bond grew stronger over time, I just loved to read how not-sweet together they were but how they still managed to be endearing in their own way.
I’m positively obsessed with Rory. He’s one of the best and most complex alphas I’ve ever read. His tug of war with Eve was the hottest shit I’ve ever read. And the fact that he turned into a cuddle bear after bonded just killed me.
Jamie was also an incredible character. I loved how he was Eve’s rock in a way none of the others could be. And I absolutely loved the fact that he’s the only one of the four who bit Eve. I felt like her relationship with Jamie was more equal than with the others, and that made me like them a little bit more than the others.
Garrett and his love for pegging was excellent. I wasn’t that much into him as the others, but he was much better than I thought after reading some reviews. I could see how he worked with Adam and Eve and how he brought something they both needed into the metaphorical table.
Overall, I loved Bad Alpha and even though it’s a long book, I was left wanting more, which is always a sign that a book is excellent. I’m looking forward to the next installment in Moon’s sweetverse. She has become an author I’ll read everything from ❤️
probably one of my new favorites in the series! i love that this installment flips your expectations upside down and was also an unexpected but very welcome prequel to the next installment. i read it a few weeks ago so i don't remember specifics but i remember absolutely devouring this in only a few sittings even though it's 500+ pages long, and for someone who doesn't love mysteries or thrillers, it kept me hooked. but i don't know why i would have expected any less because kathryn moon can do no wrong.
It's no secret that I like alpha women especially alpha women that don't change their personality when a man is involved.
The heroine in this book was an psychotic alpha and I loved it. She was an alpha even to the other alphas. The plot was great, the sex was scorching. Really enjoyed it.
It hurts me to rate a Kathyrn Moon book so low but I felt zero chemistry between any of the characters. They could've all just been friends and I would've been perfectly fine with that.
So I devoured this in less than a day, after pushing all of my responsibilities to the side, and let me tell you it was totally worth it!!!!!
I went in expecting only Adam and Eve to be centred in the plot, but was pleasantly surprised to find that there would, in fact, be a reverse harem <3
Eve was the amazing, badass FMC I was expecting and though her rough edges mellowed out throughout the book, her personality didn't do a complete 180 in order for her to accommodate her bondmates (which is a pet peeve of mine). 10/10 would let her bite me
The MMCs complemented her really well, they each gave her the submission, stability, and support she needed as a feral female alpha. The fact that they didn't hinder her, but even made her life easier when she was going up against the bad guys was a plus too 😌
The plot was fleshed out well and the cross linking between the characters was great. There weren't many flashbacks to their respective pasts, which I prefer, but there were enough to give an insight to who they were at that present moment.
An omega running for his life tricks the women that was sent to kill him to bond with him instead, what could go wrong?
Kathryn Moon never misses. She is the queen of omegaverse! Every book has a completely different dynamic from the previous book which keeps it interesting. In this case, the FMC Eve, isn’t an omega or a beta but an alpha. Not just any alpha but one that dominates everyone else. She’s tough and very closed off so it was fun seeing how the pack wiggled their way through her defences.
I typically like OVs because of how sweet they are and I love seeing a bunch of people doting on the MC but that isn’t what happens here. Eve is fairly cold, doesn’t like being touched or held and is very independent so there weren’t many cosey moments. It was still an interesting dynamic to read about though. I haven’t read maybe books where the FMC is the dominant one but it was fun and new. I liked the guys too. I didn’t love them but they were good MMCs and fit well with Eve.
The plot in this one was actually more interesting than the others. It wasn’t just an evil omega but a whole corrupt business trying to kill Adam. I have been dragging my feet reading all of her OVs because they’re so good and I don’t want to finish them so quickly but I might just have to jump right into the next one this time!
I am going to be in the minority with this review but here goes…
I absolutely couldn’t stand Eve the FMC. I never felt sorry for her and I never connected with her. IMO she acted like an entitled, petulant child. The MMCs were not much better; despite being three powerful Alpha males, they crumpled at the feet of the FMC. What? These men are ex-military, special forces type ALPHA men… . and they become subservient in her presence? Eve obviously possesses a magical vajayjay capable of transforming an Alpha male into a boy.
Then Eve BONDS one of the Alphas against his will and without consent and then she laughs about it, thinking it's acceptable because he's "MINE", really? Petulant child with no thought of anyone else but herself. This is the end of my journey with this series.

Baby was champagne. Bubbly, sparkling, the life of the party, and able to completely go to your head before you realize what's happening.
Lola was a rose. No less beautiful, she starts off as a tightly closed bud, guarded and hiding what's on the inside, but then she opens up and she's captivating and classic.
Eve is an entirely different beast.
Eve is dark chocolate, the kind that's laced with chili peppers. On the surface, she's delicious, because hello, chocolate, but if you take too big of a bite too soon, you'll get one h3ll of a burn.
I'm not going to lie; it *did* take me more time to fall into her story (like an extra chapter or two) than it did for our bubbly Baby or classic Lola, but when you ease into Eve, you'll find there's a lot to love about her. She's a bit bitter, a bit jaded, and a lot unprepared for formal attachments of any kind. Basically, she's the last person in the world who should have a pack. But that's what makes her sort of perfect.
It makes it this savory experience when she does connect, when she lets a sweet word slip, when she lets her guard down, when she makes the effort to see the men as they are instead of letting their designations blind her to the kind of life that she could build if only she'd fight for it, take a deep breath, and actually TRY.
She will burn you because that's just who she is, but as she connects with her omega and her alphas, she learns that she can take the time to soothe that burn too. Eve will always be a strong woman, capable and willing to fight and kill, but she becomes more than that. Most importantly, she realizes that it's okay for her to be more than that.
Rory, Jamie, Garrett, and Adam are all lovely. I want a piggyback ride from Rory while he grumbles about it, to snuggle with Garrett, help Jamie in his workshop, and give Adam hugs. They're an easy-to-like bunch, and while we do get to know Lola's guys a bit better since she had a second book for us to follow their story, Moon uses her page-time well.
Rory's a strong alpha, but there's less bite under his bark than you'd think thanks to his size and oodles of muscles. Jamie's the most sensitive of the group in some ways because I feel like he resonates most strongly with what Eve needs, seeing how to balance her out. It's nice to see the sensitive guy get to be the safe space because I feel like that often is awarded to the goliaths like Rory. Garrett is the nice guy, a bridge to help close some of the gap that we start off with between Adam and his first alpha, but he gets a chance to also be someone we'll like aside from his usefulness to others. Last but not least, Adam, our omega, is a loveable little con artist. He's a little bit conniving, and he's also a bit of the soft spot in the pack, though that doesn't mean he has no practicality or hint of grit.
Aside from the obvious interest of the romance, there's also a new plotline in Bad Alpha that has to do with omegas and a new "big bad" lurking in the shadows. I really want to know more about this, and honestly, I'd love another book to dig more into what winds up happening with the unraveling of the company and how Eve and her pack contribute to breaking them down. Given the next leading lady in Kathryn's branch of the Sweetverse, perhaps we'll still get to see some of that.
I think Moon did a really good job of showing us that the Sweetverse can have a little more spice and a lot more fight in it while still staying true to her brand and the reason why so many readers flock to these stories. We want to be vicariously romanced, and despite how different Bad Alpha is from its predecessors, we still get what we want.
A killer alpha female, a con-artist omega, and three sexy alpha males who know their way around a gun? A truly delicious recipe.
Favorite Lines for each pairing:
Adam & Eve: "Anything I can do to…help the decision-making process?" I was naked, sore, and satisfied like never before, freshly bitten and bonded, staring down the muzzle of a gun at one of the most beautiful people I'd ever seen. I wasn't dead yet. There was still hope.
Garrett/Eve/Adam: Ha. Fuck. I was fucked. Adam was pretty, Eve was scorching hot, this tiny apartment smelled like pussy and sugar cookies, and I was fucked.
Jamie & Eve: That was mine and only mine. I had a feeling this version of her, splayed out and surrendering, was just mine too.
Rory & Eve: "FBI is on their way. Shit, Eve, I told you to try and keep her alive!" Rory snarled, glaring at the bodies over my shoulder. "Rory, she was very annoying," I said.
I honestly enjoy all of Kathryn Moon's omegaverse stories.
Eve takes being a femme fatale very seriously - emphasis on fatale. She was such a badass, stone cold, and super untrusting. She, Adam, and the rest of the pack had a really rough start. And middle. Adam was such a fun character, with his hatred of his designation and his love of being a con artist. Eve and Garrett helped him find his footing without losing himself entirely. Jamie is what dreams are made of. Seriously, can I get a carbon copy? He was so patient and compassionate but also stood his ground. Rory was Mr grumpy teddy bear and he and Eve had quite the volatile dynamic. Eve was allowed and encouraged to continue being her truest self, while learning to let others in. I thought by the end of the book the pack was very well balanced, and each of the main characters cared for each other, whether platonically or romantically.
Spice: 5/5
Triggers: violence, gore, murders (using guns, knives, and strangulation), trafficking, dubcon, SA of side character on page (low detail), captivity, discussion of child abuse and bullying, drugging, severe illness and injury, stalking by non main characters (with aim of murder)
Eve — what a stone cold badass! I didn’t think I’d be that interested in her story after she was introduced in Lola & The Millionaires, but this book was such a winner.
I really enjoyed the gender switch, with Eve as the contract killer alpha and Adam as the omega she’s been hired to take out. Except he cons her into biting him, which does *not* make her immediately go gaga over him (see title).
What especially worked for me was how the main characters (including Garrett, Rory and Jamie, the 3 other alphas in the story) were all distinct, and they weren’t defined by their designation. I loved all the different relationship dynamics and how they fit into each other’s lives without needing to undergo drastic changes.
Kathryn Moon just excels at omegaverse reverse harem romances. One of the only authors who can make me feel invested in ALL of the pairings/trios, instead of having obvious favourites.
A badass hit woman meets a desperate omega conman, but this troublesome duo requires the supervision of a whole pack.
Pick up this book if you're into: Biting to claim what's yours Lovely and caring sword crossing Exciting shoot-outs Fun toys Knotting Swoony moments when rough characters say soft things
I've been patiently waiting for Bad Alpha to come out since I heard it was going to be a thing and this book is fantastic! Eve is feral and completely untamable which makes when her relationships develop so potent. She changes, but it's more like she's becoming more of herself. Saddling herself with an omega seems to be so against everything she is until Adam works some magic with his loud emotions. Once Eve settles on actually having an omega, she goes about providing a pack for him. As with the other Sweetverse books, the characters are individuals and fall in love with each other for who they are rather than being driven by their designations.
Review in english : After Lola's adventures in the first books of the Sweet Omegaverse series, I was eager to read Eve's story. We meet this character for the first time in the 2nd book dedicated to Lola (which I recommend - book 2 and 3 of the Sweet Omegaverse series). Eve is an alpha hitwoman who appears strong and intelligent. Basically, everything I like in a heroine.
So when I saw that this book was coming out on October 10th, I was thrilled. Especially since I saw a lot of reviews on Goodreads saying that Bad Alpha was great ....
Unfortunately, I'm part of the minority of readers who didn't like the book at all.
This was bad guys ... The reasons I didn't like Bad Alpha are as follows:
→ I loved Eve but I didn't like the pack she was in with the 4 guys (Jamie, Adam, Garrett and Rory) at all. There was no feeling with the guys. I don't understand how the relationship develops. The only one who is touching and whose relationship with Eve seems logical is Jamie. I just hated Adam and Garrett (I'll explain later why) and Rory was not annoying but not touching either.
→ I hated Adam, the omega of this story (it's not a good start when you hate the omega in an omegaverse book ...) : Adam, is one of the few omegas in the Sweet Omegaverse series that I hated. He is selfish, weak and lacks depth. This poor little omega forces Eve to bite him and then he doesn't understand why she is a bad alpha. She is not a bad alpha, it is simply that she did not choose to have an omega ! In addition, Adam thinks he is rebellious and strong when he is constantly asking for reassurance from his alphas. Unlike Rake, the omega in Lola's story, Adam has no endearing side. He's a real little princess. At least Rake was very loving with Lola and his companions.
→ I hated Garrett, an alpha in Eve's group: Other than telling Eve that she wasn't a good alpha, Garrett serves little purpose. As soon as he appears, he has an instant connection with Adam and becomes the "perfect alpha". He constantly takes care of Adam by cherishing him. I hate that he is so critical of Eve when he doesn't know her or the situation. The author tries to make us believe that a relationship is developing between him, Eve and Adam. But frankly, I didn't believe it at all. He is obsessed with Adam but not Eve. It feels like we are gently witnessing a little romance between Garrett and Adam while Eve is on the side when Adam needs her.
→ I would have liked more details about Eve's story and the other characters. It would have brought more credibility to their adventure. The little glimpse that we have of her previous life is super interesting.
Aside from these major flaws, I liked the action in this book and the character of Eve and Jamie. Too bad the rest of the story didn't follow. I am very disappointed because I love this author.
This was the first ABO book I've read until the end and it really surprised me. I have a few problems with omegaverse as a concept and its tropes, mostly about the lack of consent that is build into many of the stories, but Kathryn's world addresses this in a GOOD way. It addresses the unfairness of the biologic existentialism that's built into the omegaverse concept and it manages to take the interesting parts (packs, bonds, etc) while exploring the ways the bad parts (the inevitability of alpha-omega connections, the violence and toxic masculinity attributed to Alphas, etc) can lead to oppression.
I really love all the dynamics here and the character arcs. It was refreshing to have a female alpha as one of the main characters, and the way Eve learned how to trust, how to accept help, how she learned that she didn't need to be strong alone was amazing. I also loved how absolutely *all* men of her pack are submissive and breedable, even the more "aggressive" ones (I'd argue that he's the most submissive and breedable of ALL, but I digress) and the Female Alpha/Male Omega dynamics was really interesting (I love how both Adam and Eve are sort of bad at their roles, they're a really good match).
Kathryn is really good at developing their intimacy and building the pack in a way that, by the end, it's believable that this group of people care for each other in a feral, protective way. It was a really great read and made me curious to read all the other Sweetverse books to see the different ways that she handles the omegaverse.
Ah, there's a detail that I think people should know: don't go into this expecting the whole book to be as action packed as the beginning. After 30% or so, everything takes a more domestic turn and it's focused on the character development of the pack as a whole, the plot of Omikrom and the Omega Traffic taking a backseat. There's some resolution to this, but there's opening to another book. While I love this structure, I'm aware that there are people that may not like it or be disappointed by it, so dive into this book with this knowledge in mind.
All in all, it was a great, fun, sexy read that left me wanting more.
I think Kathryn Moon has me hooked into the Omegaverse. She’s created characters I wanted to spend time with and root for. This world borrows enough from werewolves that I do keep expecting them to shift at some point.
Eve is a feral alpha. And the way that she learns how to lean on and accept help and comfort is SO GOOD! There is such great hurt/comfort in this book and I absolutely loved the re-read. Plus, the audiobook is freaking fantastic.
----- First read. I am shocked by how much I loved this. My little heart was glowing with enjoyment and happiness throughout the time of reading.
First of all, I didn’t think I liked reverse harems. And I think that’s still true. This isn’t really a reverse harem. I don’t know if there’s a term for a book like this, but I’m finding I can really enjoy multiple partners when it’s not just about a bunch of guys revolving around one woman, but a group of people becoming a family. In these books, sex and physical intimacy is used to cement that found family aspect. It’s definitely not something I’m interested in for real life, but there’s something so appealing about having a family where you can be all aspects of yourself with the varied individuals.
But, let’s get down to business. I was afraid of this book because of the reviews. And the characters and situations in this book are on the darker side. We have a hitwoman, a conman, and three ex-military guys. They all seem to be okay with violence.
There is some deep history that I get to glimpse that just makes me want to know more. Like the experiences in the military for Jamie or Eve's childhood. This author did an amazing job of making me care about each person in this group.
I ADORE Eve. I knew I would like her from the very beginning of the book because, although she thought of herself as heartless, so far the author has never shown her killing anyone without thinking it through and testing the morality of the kill. I first met her in Lola and the Millionaires where we see her being considerate of Lola and her safety and comfort. And she doesn’t kill until she knows that it is necessary and will result in the best outcome. And that is shown in this book as well. She is hired to kill Adam but she observes and waits. She’s confused by feelings, but that’s okay. That makes me like her more and love each way she opens up as she comes home to these men.
Adam was great. He is clever (and who doesn’t love when Eve praises him for that?) AND loving. He is fighting for his sister the whole book. And he is so open to Eve and Garrett. What a sweetheart. I adore that he is not a conman for the sake of getting rich, but for the sake of providing for and protecting those he loves.
Garrett, Rory, and Jamie all value consent. I mean… SWOOOON. I ADORE when positive, enthusiastic consent is celebrated and forefront. Eve does have some issues with this, but both I and the guys forgive her. I love all their personalities. And how they struggle with jealousy but also strive to give space to Eve and Adam.
By the end of this book, this found family is TIGHT and I can see how they will work together in the future.
Yes, there is a LOT of smut in this… with a lot of different relationships. It worked for me. I listened to the audiobook, which was FIRE. The funny thing was that they were talking about omicron and all I could think about was the COVID variant. Turns out the book was published about a month before omicron became a thing… and the spelling in the book is Omikron. Just a funny coincidence.
Not my favorite from Kathryn Moon. It was a little hard to love the FMC. I’m a softy and denying a omega makes me sad 🥲 I do love how eve’s relationship with the other alphas in the pack are all different. Jamie being my favorite alpha cough lovetherepresentation uncough. I don’t know if I’ve been reading too many novellas or what but this book dragged. So much information. So much dialogue it felt like I was reading an entirely new book at points. This one is definitely different from her other sweetverse books and that’s fine, change is good but I liked it. Not loved.
I WALKED INTO THIS ONE WITHOUT REALIZING IT WAS A REVERSE HAREM. I PERSONALLY DON'T LIKE THAT GENRE BUT DID I REGRET READING IT? NO. BUT I SURE AS HELL SHIPPED EVE & RORY BECAUSE I'M A SUCKER FOR THE MORE ALPHA TYPE OF ALPHAS.
EVE is everything you would expect a dominant alpha female to be - feisty, defensive and snarky and of course she comes with a baggage of childhood trauma issues. It's the reason that led her to be the woman she is today. A femme fatale Alpha. It takes awhile to warm up to Eve, although she wasn't unloveable. This happened to be a very long novel, more than the average and it covers a lot of emotional and character development. The four different male characters that get entangled with Eve will supply her different emotional needs. Overall, she's badass and broken and that's exactly why this book is named so.
ADAM is I supposed the main male lead but he's also an omega and absolutely not my type of male. He's more like the younger brother you'd dote on? Lol, he's just the complete opposite of alpha I had trouble connecting with him. The problem with reverse harem or poly stories is how the relationship between the characters aren't often very deep because the author has to split time between the other characters. Adam is what you'd expect from an omega - he cries, he's emotional, and he's more like a puppy that needs tending to.
JAMIE is rather an interesting if rather lowkey and cool character. I quite liked his mellow character, and I can't help but feel that he connected with Eve more than the others because she eventually trusted him to bite her, even though she has a massive issue about being dominated with alphas.
GARRETT is more like Adam's other Alpha. Honestly, I didn't pick this up for the BL romance but I'm glad that Adam got to find a good lover in Garrett who cherished him as he deserved, even though Eve is Adam's primary alpha.
RORY is my favourite!!! That's because his sexual tension between Eve and himself was off the charts, and I was a little sad they didn't get much time together, and when they finally fucked, it wasn't even enough! Eve had more sexy time with Jamie...boo-hoo. Anyway, out of the four men, I think Jamie and Rory were more alpha male, although Rory's more rough around the edges and just how I like my men.
OVERALL Eve's a lucky bitch for having 4 different men with completely contrasting characters in her life. For a person who prefers solitude, she certainly didn't pick the short end of the stick and ended up with a pack with her as the center. She's the alpha and the males are all twisted around her awesome ladybits. No pun intended. Seriously. They were that crazy for her.
ANYWAY, THE VERDICT IS, IF YOU LIKE MATURE REVERSE HAREM, THEN THIS IS FOR YOU. I would have hated the book if the characters weren't likeable, so kudos to the author for making this enjoyable for a anti-reverse-harem anti-fan.
As soon as I started my journey into omegaverse, I had several people suggest, very strongly lol, that I read Bad Alpha. They were not wrong. You should definitely read this book. It’s a pack centered around an alpha named Eve. She’s a badass contract killer who has her feelings on lock. She is a character type that I’ve seen before, but almost always as a man. I love that this book just centers around how bad ass she is. She’s spent so long being determined to be the strongest alpha in the room, and she is. She definitely had no plans of joining a pack until her latest job goes a little awry. I love the whole pack. Like LOVE them! I love that she ties them all together. I really have enjoyed all of the sweetverse books because they showcase how different pack dynamics can be. The dynamics in Lola’s pack are totally different than the dynamics in Baby’s pack which are different than Eve’s pack.
It’s hard to say which is my favorite because I loved them all for different reasons and I’d definitely recommend them!
