I live with my family at beautiful Lake Macquarie on the east Coast of Australia and my favourite things when not writing are good food, good company, great books, getting outside in nature and travel.
Bookwise, I'm a multi USA Today bestselling author with millions of books sold, in English as well as in lots of other languages. I've won the Romantic Times Reviewers' Choice Award and the Romantic Book of the Year (Romance Writers of Australia). One of my favourite review quotes is from Romantic Times which said in its review of The Sheikh's Ransomed Bride 'This is what a love story could be.'.
A much more enjoyable novel than the last one I read by Annie West.
BUT...
There was one HUGE problem: Why did the author think that this specific portrayal of the Forbidden Love trope, would be plausible?
Forbidden Love is a trope that works effectively, if any of the following are applicable:
🎯 There's an external person/persons to provide understandable objections to the MC's relationship. This person (a relative of one MC) must've also given significant hints to one or both MC's, that the heroine is off limits.
🎯 One or both MC is already committed/betrothed to another person, for reasons that are difficult to change or control.
🎯 The heroine is between 17 and 20 years old and living in a family situation that brings her under familial control and is unable to act as an independent agent, when she falls in love with the H.
🎯 The MC's are step-siblings who are related by their parents marriage but not by blood. In some super taboo cases, there are books where there's actual incest but that's never one that I've been interested in exploring.
🎯 The H had always felt this forbidden/taboo attraction to the heroine when they were younger but hadn't acted upon it then, because it would have created an uncomfortable situation between himself and his best friend (aka her brother). But the heroine was an ugly duckling, who had never been on the H's romantic or sexual radar, so this isn't even a second chance version of unfulfilled (or ruined) teenaged forbidden love. It's only when he meets her again and notices that she's now beautiful, that the insta-lust kicks in. That's when the H decides that's she's off limits. To be honest, this seemed more like the usual self preservation tactic of a commitment phobe HPlandia H and less like a forbidden love trope where he's so wary of what her brother (his best friend) would think.
In this novel, the heroine is an independent, educated woman, whose relatives have never issued warnings about her getting involved with the H. In fact, they're all adults and I couldn't see what exactly was so *forbidden* about this relationship, especially when the heroine's relatives didn't seem like the controlling/overbearing type who'd get angry at the H. The mere fact that the heroine's relatives didn't even raise a single objection to her relationship with the H, when they went public, proves that this *forbidden love* issue was all just a big hullabaloo in the H's neurotic mind.
Most importantly, Forbidden Love storylines are supposed to be drenched in tons of high intensity angst, where the reader is filled with anxiety while she waits on the eventual HEA outcome of the story. That didn't happen in this book.
The only thing that made a little sense (vis a vis this trope), was the fact that the H had previously thought of her as a little sister and couldn't immediately come to terms with his new feelings of insta-lust. On the heroine's part, there'd never been any sisterly feeling because she'd always been secretly infatuated with him, despite the numerous interchangeable blonde bombshells that took turns riding his teenaged joystick.
Despite the above issues, I did enjoy this book, because:
1. The MC's were both likable and shared tons of sexy chemistry.
2. I love jealous, protective, possessive heroes, who sweep their heroines away to safety and seduce them in a lush and glamorous setting.
I'm not getting into more details about their romance itself because other reviews have already covered those.
Safety: No OW, no OM and both MC's are celibate during their short separation.
We open with Niall being asked to checkup on/watch over his best friends sister, as he feels something is off with her. Niall runs a successful security company and is more then happy to help out his friend and sister.
Lola is in fact being stalked by someone she had put in prison and she's running scared. But she was surprised when Niall showed up at her door said he was in the neighborhood and thought he would visit. Well that visit revealed someone had been in Lola's home and Niall learns some truth on what's been happening in Lola's life.
Lola has idolized Niall as well as having a crush on him. When he show's up at her door she's surprised and aware that she hasn't gotten over her infatuation at all. When Niall alters her to what he's found in her apartment she is more then willing to accept some help. But Niall doesn't just want to help her he wants to protect her and make sure she's safe from this nutcase.
Niall kidnaps Lola, sorta. He starts off as saying a short little get away for a break, but Lola finds out at their destination she's there till this individual is caught.
Niall remembers Lola as his friends little sister and a sweet young girl. She's still sweet but he realizes she's all grown up and all woman. He's attracted to her and now is trying to fight that attraction while keeping her safe. And Lola is doing the same, trying not to let on her infatuations. But both soon realize that they cannot ignore the chemistry and decide on an affair.
The first half was well paced and intriguing but the second half I struggled. The storyline seemed to coast the last half. I also felt that there really wasn't much of a "forbidden" romance here as they were both adults and mature enough for a relationship. The brother in my opinion wasn't really a obstacle. Not much angst here as well (which I love and crave my angst in romances). It was more of a sweet romance in my opinion. Nice epilogue as well.
Happy sighs from this reader, I savoured the sensuality that Annie West brings to life on the pages of her newest story, a story of forbidden love, his best friend’s sister and one of finding that crushing on your brother’s friend can last a long time, I do hope that you pick this one up and get to know Niall and Lola as they share a very sensual journey to a gorgeous HEA.
Lola Suarez is being stalked and the police have found no evidence to support her at this time, but when a blast from the past her brother’s best friend Niall Pederson arrives on her doorstep he seems to be the only person that can help, he is more than happy and determined to protect her at all costs and soon Lola is whisked away to a very private retreat in the hills of what will be a paradise for her. It is not long before her heart is opening up to Niall as they get closer while enjoying the Gold Coast.
Niall Pederson is a billionaire, self- made when he gets a phone call from his mate Ed to check on his sister Lola he is more than happy to help, but Lola is of-limits forbidden fruit in more ways than one he is not the right person to be trusted for a permanent relationship, but the more time they spend together the less control he has over his feelings and it is not long before they are enjoying a very passionate time together.
I did love this story, it is filled with emotion and so much love, what starts of as protection from Niall ends up seeing the walls he has built around his heart torn down as he realises that Lola is the right person for him and Lola what can I say a strong heroine who knows how to love the man that will always be her number one. This is a romance that I would highly recommend, beautifully written and it was a joy to get to know Niall and Lola and the setting was gorgeous. Thank you Annie West for another fabulous story.
My thanks to the author for copy to read and review
I received an ARC from the author in return for an honest review.
Niall is a billionaire who runs a successful security company. He’s asked by his friend to check out his sister Lola who he thinks is having some kind of problem. And indeed she is, being stalked by a man she helped put in prison.
I’m not normally fond of the ‘forbidden love’ trope. There rarely seems to be a sensible reason why the hero or heroine should not be involved. In this instance Niall feels he cannot touch his friend’s younger sister Lola which makes life very difficult when he is instantly attracted to her when he calls to see how she is.
Her risky situation makes him take her off to his isolated house in Queensland and the sexual tension ramps up.
The author always writes believable and engaging characters and this is no exception. Each one has their own hidden wounds and the journey to a happy ever after is not a straightforward one but the journey is delicious and emotionally satisfying.
This was another lovely read that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Annie West just goes from strength to strength. This is an incredibly fabulous romance about a man who swears to protect his best friend's little sister from a crazy stalker. The fact he's a multi billionaire because of his self-made security business helps! But there's still oodles of room for tenderness and deep matters of the heart, which touched my heart. Thankyou again, Annie!
What a privilege to read and review Annie West’s upcoming new release: The Innocent’s Protector In Paradise.
One of my most favourite storyline scenarios is forbidden attraction and The Innocent’s Protector In Paradise certainly didn’t disappoint it is one of the best I’ve read in a long while.
Our Hero: Niall, Hunky, serious, self-made security tycoon, loner and not looking for love at all.
Niall promises to check on his best friend’s little sister (hasn’t seen her for years) so when Lola opens the door to her apartment Niall can’t believe his eyes. Lola has grown up into an incredibly beautiful and unfortunately for him very desirable woman and he has to keep reminding himself this is his best friends’ LITTLE sister so definitely a no-go area.
Our Heroine: Lola Self-reliant, feisty, smart, hardworking, gorgeous and has always secretly hero-worshipped Niall.
Lola opens the door to her apartment and be still her heart there he stands Niall her brother’s best friend and the man she has hero-worshipped and dreamt of for most of her life looking more gorgeous than ever. What is he doing here?
He’s sworn to keep her safe. She threatens his every barrier!
Niall has promised to protect Lola from her stalker so what happens when two people with very strong ideas and personalities are thrown together by this dramatic situation. Read and enjoy the ride and as Niall’s and Lola’s emotion filled story unfolds it has everything you could want humour, suspense and more than enough sensual sizzle to really get the sparks flying between our Hero and Heroine as their relationship grows from renewed friendship, to lust and desire then ultimately the realisation of love.
There is a lovely epilogue to finish. (who doesn’t love a good epilogue)
Was really great to read a book with an Aussie theme Congratulations Annie another fabulous⭐️⭐️🌟⭐️⭐️ book!!!!!.
I have really enjoyed reading this one so it is straight to the Keeper Bookcase.
Thank you Annie for the opportunity to read The Innocent’s Protector In Paradise,
I truly thank you for all the hours of reading pleasure that your stories bring me. Can’t wait for the release of the next one!!!!!!
I was absolutely thrilled to be able to read the latest offering from the wonderful Annie West, The Innocent’s Protector in Paradise. Annie West is incomparable in being a writer who has the capability to write enthralling stories at such a high level every single time; she never lets her readers down. Lola Suarez is determined to make a life for herself as an up-and-coming office administrator within a Melbourne advertising agency and her stunning apartment overlooking the Yarra River cements her happy life until her previous neighbour’s ex-partner begins her nightmare of being stalked with threats to her life. Her brother Ed realises that something is wrong but as he is out of the country, he asks his best friend, Niall Pedersen, to check on her and make sure she is alright. Niall has been friends with Ed since childhood and always regarded Lola as a little sister. Once he enters Lola’s apartment and sees her again, he begins to see in her as a stunning desirable woman instead. As a self-made security tycoon, Niall immediately recognises the intense and immediate danger Lola is in and whisks her away to his private retreat amongst the glitz and glamour of the Gold Coast. This was a wonderfully written novel with great characters and a storyline which had me hooked from the start until the very last page. The development of the storytelling and the heat between the characters was right on point. I was fully immersed in the Australian settings thanks to the Annie’s detailed descriptions. If you are looking for a beautifully written, sweet romance to pick up to read for the upcoming Christmas holidays – this is the perfect book for you.
The Innocent's Protector in Paradise by Annie West is an exciting and thrilling ride, edge of your seat read and a fast paced and spirited action packed adventure.
Annie West knows how to craft a story and I really enjoyed the spine-chillingly thrilling story of Niall and Lola. Lola's brother is concerned about her; something's not right so he calls in a favour by his best friend, billionaire security consultant Niall. Niall arrives in the middle of almost everything not being right and takes matters into his own hands by basically kidnapping Lola while he and his team try to catch Lola's very threatening and scary stalker.
Lola has loved Niall from as far back as she can remember and being in the most beautiful location on the Gold Coast brings all of the feelings crashing back. Niall is, of course, 100% attracted to Lola but she's his best friend's little sister... the unwritten rule of no touching is flashing loud and clear like a pink neon light.
I enjoyed the plot of Lola's stalker, it was a change from the usual and it added another layer of enjoyment. I liked that Lola was independent and successful and I liked that her and Niall were super likeable and fitted well together. I loved the almost/technically/basically was kidnapping. Saving the day and it helped create extra tension. The standard barriers both have to work on in order to find love were enjoyable and I really enjoyed the story as a whole.
Annie West is so clever with her writing and this story is one of the reasons she's one of my favourites.
Bah, passiamo oltre.
Wow this hit the spot for a relaxing read , strong characters, good storyline and wonderful warm surroundings Set in Australia the author takes us all for a relaxing break when Niall Pedersen takes Lola Suarez to his apartment in Queensland to keep her safe from the stalker who has invaded her privacy in her Melbourne apartment . Lola has always had a crush on Niall who is her brother Ed's best friend , and she feels safe around him , but tension grows between the pair the longer they have to carry on with their working lives under the same roof , while the police try to solve the mystery. But spending time together has them catching up with what has happened in their lives but Lola feels Niall is not sharing everything and wonders what secrets are hindering his ability to fully commit to a relationship . " That is because they don't know everything about Niall Pedersen. There's one secret not even Ed knew. One that would destroy his faith in his mate ." Author Annie West has woven a lively story of love and hope in Lola's frightening world, just the sort of book to transport you to an uplifting place in this world of the Covid-19 pandemic. Thoroughly recommend this book and I thank the author for the signed copy to enable me to read and review her work .
Niall Pedersen is a self-made billionaire who is in security. He is friends with Ed Sanchez, who is worried about his little sister, Lola. Niall agreed to check up on little Lola. When he shows up at her apartment, Niall is surprised to see her all grown up. He also realizes something is not right. Lola finally tells him about her stalker. Niall offers to help her and takes her to the Gold Coast to his home. She’ll be safe there. After all, the Sanchez family is like his family. He would do anything for them. The more time they spend together, the harder it is to fight the chemistry. She’s off limits, but his heart tells him differently. Will they find her stalker? Will they accept their chemistry and just let things happen and see where it leads? Niall has a scarred past. Will he tell her about it? No one, not even his best friend, Ed knows. Will he let her walk away? Awesome read. Annie West always brings it.
Beautifully written with a keen eye for detail, The Innocent’s Protector in Paradise, is largely set in the Gold Coast hinterland, an area author Annie West clearly knows well. Her descriptions of the scenery, flora and fauna put the reader right into that location. I liked the romantic suspense nature of this book in which heroine Lola Suarez finds herself the victim of a stalker who is pure evil. Niall Pederson, her brother’s best friend and wealthy owner of Pederson Security, is all you could ask for in terms of having the right man for the job there at your fingertips. Yes he’s somewhat overbearing initially but this guy is swoon worthy so I forgave him. Plus, who could stay mad at a bloke who sweeps you away to a luxurious Gold Coast manison for your own safety. The sexual tension between Lola and Niall is palpable from the first and their first kiss kist sizzles. This is a book to sweep you away and keep you involved to the last page. A lovely story!
Lola Suarez knows her brother loves her but didn't think he would figure that something wasn't right with her just by talking to her. Niall Pedersen shows up on her doorstep and she realizes that her secret is out. Lola has loved Niall since she was a child and he spent lots of time at her family home. The last thing she wanted was for him to know that she is being stalked and is determined to help her. Helping her means he will be with her and that means she will have a difficult time hiding her true feelings for him. What starts out as protection becomes more when Niall has to admit to himself that his feelings for Lola are as strong as hers for him. Simple connect? Not happening because he is a loner or is he. Read this wonderful book by Annie West and you will be swept away by the passion and the danger. Another awesome story don't miss this one.
An attention grabbing twist thrown into a brother's best friend storyline makes for an addictive read! Annie West is pulling out all the stops in her latest and I loved every single minute of THE INNOCENT'S PROTECTOR IN PARADISE! The backstory shines, the current drama hooked me and the characters were both down to earth and real. Really enjoyed it!
Lola is a complex character. She's independent and self-assured, but she finds herself in a situation that she never expected and figures out the hard way that she's in over her head.
Niall is successful and kind-hearted but he lives with a guilt from childhood that holds him back from owning his own future. Lola helps ease his mind and show him what life can be.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a little bit of danger in their romance with a bit of drama, a lot of feels and an overall goodness in each character.
The Innocent's Protector in Paradise by Annie West. Annie West again delivers a awesome read. The Innocent's Protector in Paradise contains a rich storyline about two different characters a rich billionaire Niall Pederson and an everyday girl Lola Suarez. Story gives the reader a picture of Australia. Adventure awaits the reader as the characters travel from Melbourne to Queensland Australia. Anyone who desires a story of intrigue should read this book. I read this story in only two days because the story made we want to reach the end quickly.
Lola is determined to make a career for herself and to be self-sufficient. She suspects she is being stalked but can not prove it. She has told the police but kept the information to herself. Her brother is concerned there is something wrong so has is best friend Nial drop in and check on Lola. Nial soon works out what is going on and whisk Lola away to his holiday house. Trouble is Lola has had a crush on Nial since they were teenages. Can they stay there and just be friends. A great read.
The Innocent's Protector in Paradise by Annie West is one great book. I love Niall Pedersen and Lola Suarez together. Lola has loved Niall nearly her entire life. But Niall is just realizing what a beautiful, desirable, grown up woman she has become. They butt heads, with him trying to protect her from a stalker and her trying to get him to see her as a woman and not a little girl. This book is another winner! Annie West never writes a bad book and this one is no different. I give it 5 stars.
I read the book in two days The Innocent's Protector in Paradise: by Annie West A love story of Neil and Lola that could happen in real life or to any one a love story that makes me Kilig in tagalog (giddiness) kilig to the bones A man truly love you he will protect the woman he love as he can Niel is handsome, and, yeah, he's always been beautiful. It's just that, in this, he's achieved a whole other level of sexiness. And, what's more, his character is complete as a man all I can say As for complete, I mean, he was understanding, intelligent, kind, sexy, confident, competent, funny, cute, gosh, he was the perfect man to be love by Lola what a lucky girl
I enjoyed reading this story! Lola's brother is worried about her and contacts his best friend Niall to go check on her and when he does ends taking her away to keep her safe. It kept me reading to find out how their relationship goes and why she has a stalker and how it all turns out. I highly recommend this book!!!!!
I really loved this book by Annie West. She describes the characters and the scenery so well that you feel like you're there. Lola Suarez is being stalked and in comes her brother's mate, Nial Pederson to protect her. The attraction is strong between them but having known each other for so long it could get a little awkward.
The Innocents Protector In Paradise by Annie West was a good read with a type of forbidden love storyline. It also had a nice description of the locations in which the book was set. I look forward to the next Annie West book. 📖
I enjoyed this book very much she was a good character and he was as well and he was very sorry when he realised he and the family had done her wrong good ending

I absolutely loved this book. Lola & Niall's journey is fraught with danger and insecurities. Niall can keep Lola safe but can she convince him that he deserves to love and be loved. Annie West has a wonderful ability to write a story that will keep the reader interested from page one to the end. Definitely recommended.
Lola is being stalked and her brother's friend Niall comes to look out for her. She has always had a crush on him. Time spent together brings them close. Despite some difficulties, they finally get their HEA. Very wonderful.
