The Blood Dahlia

Rate this book
Not all superheroes fly and wear capes. Some wear old black dusters and walk around with a bad attitude while dealing with the scum of the both the real and supernatural world.

Daughters of the town’s well-to-do families are disappearing without a trace. No witnesses. No evidence. No ransom notes. No leads at all until they find a few, dead and drained of all their blood by an unknown, but seemingly unnatural assailant. The only person suited for this investigation is Lynch, a surly ex-cop turned private detective with an on-again-off-again ‘its complicated’ girlfriend, and a secret. He can’t die, he can’t feel pain, and he sees the world in a way no one ever should. He sees all that is there, both natural and supernatural. His exploits have earned him the name Dark Angel among those that crossed him. His only problem, no one told him how to truly use this ability. Time is running out for missing girls, and Lynch is the only one who can find and save them. Will he figure out the mystery in time and will he know how to save them from their supernatural captor?

David Clark is an author of multiple self-published horror novels and anthologies (amazon genre top 100) and can be found in 3 published horror anthologies. His writing focuses on the suspense, horror and sci-fi genres with a writing style takes a story based on reality, develops characters the reader can connect with and pull for, and then sending the reader on a roller-coaster journey the best fortune teller cannot predict. He feels his job is done if the reader either gasps, makes a verbal reaction out loud, throws the book across the room, or hopefully all three.

* I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.*

In the few books I have read from this author, it seems his main characters have an interesting little quirk about them. This is something I am coming to like about his style.

This book is a full length and full bodied novel with a very interesting view of our future. It was fun to envision it through his minds eye. The ability to see Lynch as both personas and through the abilities he utilizes is interesting. This book is an amazing example of descriptive writing.

The storyline and plot twists keep you on your toes here. You can miss a ton of information in just a few sentences. Especially in some areas that you would normally think we're not critical but are very important to the stories development. Make sure to watch for these key moments.

Character development it done very well. You get the sense of cohesiveness the three important characters share early on. To watch them grow and interact on the pages is fun to read. I would have to say Lynch does the most growing in the book which is a good thing in my opinion.

All in all great read. Kept me guessing up until the end. Actually I still don't think I am sure what Lynch was battling but maybe that's for book 2. Took some of the fun out of it that I could not figure it out and find out at the end, but that will just keep me coming back for more. I will be suggesting this book/series to friends/family. Well worth 5 stars.

I volunteered to review a complimentary copy of this book in return for an unbiased and honest review.
The first in a proposed series there is a lot of room for possible growth. Having to wait until page 82 to begin finding out how Lynch is able to do what he does left me feeling like I had missed a prequel somewhere. I checked but could not find one. I did not enjoy that feeling of being disconnected with the character. That being said, there is the promise of a decent story in there. I persevered through to the end and might be interested in seeing how the 2nd book might fill in more. Lynch and his world could be very interesting in the end. My advice would be to go to page 82, read how Lynch becomes what he is, and then go back to the beginning and read the story.

The Blood Dahlia is a very interesting tale. Ex-cop turned private eye Lynch is a man who has the ability to see the natural and the supernatural world. With this special skill set, he is more than qualified to find and save the missing girls. With the Dark Angel on the case and time running out, Lynch will need to use his talents to solve this mystery. Great characters and a very intriguing mystery had me reading this page-turner well into the night. Well done, Mr. Clark. I received a copy of this book for an honest review.

Bad-mannered PI Lynch, also known as “Dark Angel” is not a very likeable person. But he can’t feel pain or die, and he can see both the natural ànd supernatural world. So, when young women start disappearing without a trace, he’s the one that can crack this case.
- amazing characters
- original storyline
- great humour
But also:
- a lot of typing errors and verb tense errors
- It is not always clear which character is talking
I received a preview copy of this book which I am voluntarily reviewing.

Blood trail

Young girls from prominent families are disappearing. Lynch also known as The Dark Angel is perplexed. He is a sensitive whose senses are keenly attuned to evil. Where will the trail lead? The strange twist at the end is unexpected. After reading the Miller's Crossing series, I have become a fan of David Clark who depicts the paranormal scenario involving demonic infestation very graphically. I always look forward to his books.
