"Intense, captivating, satisfying!"
I LOVE THIS SERIES! If you love savvy, smart-driven women, intelligent well-written legal and crime thrillers infused with highly relatable characters and wit, this series is for you. The author perfectly balances personal and business; darkness and light; good and evil.
Now, my wish would be for Casey Cort to hit the small or large screen! 🎬 What a killer series this would be! #Bingeworthy
Hang on, Casey Cort fans, you will also receive an unexpected jaw-drop that answers a question from the first book (Judged 2014) in #10 ABUSED 2021. Casey is once again in the middle, and you are going to be thrilled at more than one happy ending with difficult decisions and an intense murder case. She is a character to root for to the explosive ending. Will she finally catch a break?
The author takes us back to Cleveland, Ohio with Attorney, Casey Cort. Casey is asked to consult with a large firm on a murder case due to her experience with several high-profile cases.
This is Casey’s first big murder case, which happens to be a (white) prominent mother and estranged wife (artist), charged with killing her (black) abusive well-known architect husband. Her daughter, about to head off to college, texted her to pick her up at the dad’s house. An argument breaks out.
You have the daughter, wife, and girlfriend at the scene of the crime. A dead man on the kitchen floor in his home. The murder weapon is a cheese board. (who knew a cheese board could be so deadly).
Now, Casey must use her street-savvy instincts, and her investigative, legal, courtroom, and criminal investigating skills and expertise to find the real killer and solve the murder with a conviction. She needs a win. The accused is not talking, leaving readers to wonder if she is protecting her college-age daughter or is she guilty?
We also meet Nicole, the opposing counsel, who has some serious baggage and a bad drinking problem. Her job is on the line and her final chance. She must get a win. Her boss may not give her another chance. The pressure is on.
Nicole Long we met from previous books.with. She was the prosecutor in Caged. Later, she’s in charge of the Grand Jury in Unarmed. Then she worked side by side with Tom Brody in Contained. She’s back in Abused prosecuting Juliana Clarke for murder as the temporary, acting head of the Major Crimes Unit She is quite a mess.
We also get to catch up with with Casey's gay neighbors (love) who are protective of Casey, and her best friend Lulu with the horrible verbally abusive married boyfriend, Sinclair. He does the unthinkable. He is one manipulative guy and he will come in between the two best friends. Will Lulu wake up before something bad happens to her?
There is also the love interest of two men in Casey’s life Justin and Ron. She is dating both. It is hard to work on cases with Justin since they wind up in bed. Ron wants to settle down and Justin wants to have fun and be casual. Both attorneys and trying to decide which one she wants to spend her life with and another important question she must address (no spoilers here).
She must act carefully this time around. She has not had a very good track record with men and has been twice engaged before. She knows this time she must choose the right one. No mistakes. She is finally being able to pay down her student loans and it is time she has a permanent relationship and matched with her career which is finally taking off and earning a little respect.
Told from three POVs: Casey (Protagonist), Nicole (opposing counsel), and Lulu (her friend).
The author juggles all the characters like a rock star. As the book comes down to the wire in the final courtroom scene, will Casey be able to get the real killer to confess and pull out a victory in this final book of the series?
A superb legal/crime thriller, both character, and plot-driven. Fast-paced and suspenseful, the author reunites favorite characters in this grand finale. In addition to the engaging characters, the witty and savvy dialogue, and the timely plots which could be ripped from today’s headlines, you have emotional depth, human interest, a strong fight for justice, drive, and integrity. Stories we all want and need to hear.
In the balance of the world’s darkness and evil, the author showcases goodness, friendship, passionate, strong women who tackle difficult cases, and corruption— with determined heroines, making life messy and flawed with stories filled with hope and love.
Aime and Casey have earned a "Top place for the most entertaining and best legal/crime thriller series— 'female author and female attorney' out today!"
Casey is a highly relatable flawed protagonist, driven, smart and funny. You want to root for her for a happy ending. She has had some bad breaks in her legal career and not the best track with men, personal or professional; however, we have seen her growth and come into her own with much maturity during these past ten books. She has come full circle and finally receiving much due respect in the legal world in this installment.
Here we are at #10 with ABUSED! I cannot believe it. I discovered this author in 2014 when I started my Blog #JDCMustReadBooks (celebrating my 7th anniversary) and her first book in the series was called QUALIFIED IMMUNITY (Now titled JUDGED #1 Casey Cort Series). It landed on my Top Books of 2014 and I absolutely LOVED this book and knew I had met my newfound author for a lifetime. Each book is unique and different. ALL WINNERS.
This has been a wild ride for Casey! I loved every book and especially this last one which is bittersweet. She will be missed. Casey is someone you want to share a glass of wine with and great conversation (lots of laughs).
However, do not start crying, fans. Aime will be announcing a new legal thriller spin-off series coming in 2022 and we will see more of Casey! Stay tuned for my #AuthorElevatorSeries Interview with Aime on 9/15 where we will go behind the scenes of the book, series, and the author. (plus more talks of what is coming next).
ABUSED can be read as a standalone, but why stop there?
I highly recommend re-winding back to #1 Judged and make your way to #10 Abused. READ THEM ALL! Why miss all the backstories, friends, enemies, and all the fun cases with Casey? Aime has rebranded, and all the books in the Casey Cort series have new stunning covers with new titles. They are available in e-book, paperback, and some in audio format.
In addition, you must tune in to Aime Austin’s popular new podcast, A TIME TO THRILL. She is so much fun and that voice! She talks about her characters, what’s coming, and interviews other authors, and talks, marriage, divorce, children, and much more!
Fans of Author Allen Eskens (Lila Nash) will enjoy this author and the series. All favorites. Highly recommend!
Once again, an awesome mystery to keep you hooked. Wherever you find Casey, there’s a mystery to be solved. Right now she has enough of her own troubles. Once you start the story won’t let you down.
In this story, Casey has been asked to assist in the defense of an occurred murderer. For this case, she will receive a flat fee which is different from her earlier ones. The accused killer had been abused by her husband and had filed for divorce. The police found her holding the murder weapon when they arrived. Peyton, the lawyer who hired her, and Casey were having a hard time getting information from Juliana to prep for their defense. They ultimately decided that they would go with "Battered Wife Syndrome" as their defense.
The story also delved into the lives of Lulu and Nicole as well as Casey. Lulu was in a relationship that Casey believed was a bad choice. It gave information on how she got involved in the first place with Sinclair, a married man. It also told Nicole's story how her past performance was being held against her and was given one chance to prove herself. In Casey's story it told how she had become pregnant and wasn't sure who the father was in addition it pointed out the trauma that she was feeling while deciding how to tell the possible fathers. Unfortunately, Sinclair spilled the beans while Casey and one of the possible fathers were having dinner with Lulu and Sinclair. The best part was seeing all of the preparation that Casey and Peyton were doing on the Defense side while Nicole was doing the same on the prosecution side.
The conclusion of the book follows the trial and the ending will surprise you. You must read the book to find out.
Picked up this book for free not realizing that it is book #10 in an attorney series. It was actually very good. Did not feel like I was missing much not having read any other books in the series. The book is about an attorney who has her own baby daddy drama who built herself up from nothing who gets asked to help in a trial about a women who is found holding the cheese board in her hand and her dead ex-husband with his head bashed in next to her. The suspect remains silent and is not forthcoming with the events that occurred. The prosecutor attorney is trying to get her life together with her own struggles with alcohol. The third person was Lulu who is best friends with the defense attorney Casey who is going through some obvious abuse from her boyfriend. Honestly loved the story and the side-drama but felt like I needed more answers at the end. Really left Lulus story unfinished. Guess need to read in the next series I’m assuming to find out what happened? But the murder that’s solved was an interesting twist. Overall enjoyed the read!
Casey Cort finally celebrated a big win in a class action suit, one that could pay off her student loan debt, and leave her with a bit of a cushion.
Very unexpectedly, Casey will need that cushion. A surprise pregnancy collides with a big murder defense case, and her bestie Lulu facing more serious complications in her relationship with her not yet divorced beau
Sometimes passive aggressive assaults on your spunk and your circle of friends are easy to dismiss. Escalations are harder to ignore, yet limited instances are easier to justify away. Could Lulu find herself in the same type of situation as the case Casey is trying to defend? Intelligent woman on the wrong end of a physical assault? Lethal consequences?
Surprises developments aplenty, alongside many tests of friendships and family

Excellent writing, thrilling revelations and the mother of all twists at the end!
I can't praise this book enough, I loved it!
Casey deals with the complications of her pregnancy, whilst in the midst of a murder trial. Lulu can't see the wood for the trees, in her relationship and Nicole is dulling the pain of her past, through her relationship with alcohol. Three strong women, who need to give their collective heads, a wobble and open their eyes.
Intriguing plot that wasn't predictable.
I received an ARC and I'm voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Casey Cort is going places in the legal world, things are looking up. She's making money and having a baby and defending her first murder trial. The story rolls along nicely, plenty of courtroom drama and suspense and a nice surprise at the end. Spousal abuse is the centrepiece of the story and also part of the back story with Lulu. Nicole Long also has problems and needs to get sorted but her boss shows much needed sympathy and is helping her get straightened out. The format with chapters from the viewpoint of different characters is a bit confusing at times but once you get the hang of it it all works.
This is the 3rd book I've read written by Aime Austin; I can’t wait to read more of her books.
This is part of the Casey Cort Legal Thriller Series; it is a stand-alone book. Nicole’s job is on the line; she’s about to lose her job because of her drinking. The boss has given one last chance, stay sober and win her first murder case. Juliana is her client but won’t even talk to her about her husband’s abuse so she has to come up with a way to prove she was abused in order to win the case.

An absolute page-turner, albeit in an unexpected way. The book's pacing was so lackluster that I found myself compulsively flipping through pages, desperately searching for a spark of excitement. Despite the initial whirlwind of a scandalous, cheating relationship, it dawned on me that the narrative was tailored exclusively for a housewife taste. Disheartened, I decided to halt my reading journey at the 25% mark, as it seemed increasingly unlikely that the story's quality would improve. I resolved to seek out a more captivating and engaging book instead.
A thrilling story line that pulls you in and has you sitting on the edge of your seat while you can't stop turning the pages. It's well written, captivating, flows smoothly from page to page and definitely hard to put down. Strong and well developed characters that are intriguing, easy to get to know and realistic. A great read for a weekend curled up with a good book.

Another thrilling Casey Cort story. Casey is given her first murder case but her client is not talking. This action-packed story kept me guessing with many twists you won't expect. The ending was stupendous. I would highly recommend the Casey Cort series. I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.
Abused (A Casey Cort Legal Thriller Book 10), my first read from author Aime Austin . Enjoyable, well-written read. “I received a free Kindle copy of this book and I'm voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
The storyline was decent but it tended to drag on! The writing style made it difficult to follow at times. I found myself needing to refer back to the beginning of the chapter to determine who was talking. I'll give the author another chance now that I am familiar with her writing style.
Abused is the tenth book in the Casey Cort Legal Thriller series. This fabulous thriller kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.
I thought this was a good book. I was concerned that it may be very scary. It wasn’t, and I enjoyed the book! It certainly brings up good points and concerns for all women!
An excellent legal thriller with good courtroom drama that proved both women knew how to win cases. I'll be reading more of Cort and Long's adventures in the Halls of Legal Justice.
I would hardly call it a page turner. It was a straightforward legal mystery that got solved in a decent way at the end. There was no excitement or tense scenes in the book to make it a page Turner.
Really entertaining read. The ending wasn’t what I expected. I found this book very enjoyable. The author was new to me but I will look for other books written by this author.
Abused is the tenth novel in the Casey Court series of legal thrillers, but the first I have read. While this is a legal thriller, it’s also a story about people caught up in complex lives and difficult relationships, which makes a series so much more interesting. Casey Cort is a multi-faceted character who is facing a personal crisis that revolves around a pregnancy and battling personal demons while she defends a difficult client in her first murder case. The topic of relationship abuse comes into play, and is handled tastefully and sympathetically. There is a nice twist late in the case that caught me by surprise. Austin’s prose is crisp, her characters engaging, and the story unfolds smoothly, presenting us with red herrings, surprises, and some interesting social commentary without descending into an ideological treatise. Abused is a good read. I’ll definitely be picking up more books by author Aime Austin.
Wow! Reading this story has made me experience many different emotions. I'm stunned and intrigued by how everything has been put together perfectly. I greatly admire the author's talent!
