Mail-Order Mama #2

A Quilter for Quint

Rate this book
Daydreamer Melisande Avenelle wishes all the social engagements her mother insists on would just disappear so she can focus on her quilt making. Where some artists see images in dabs of paints, Melisande imagines landscapes made from the fabric of the dresses worn at a tea party. After her refusal of the third man put forth by famed matchmaker Madame Treszka, she’s informed she must choose from three groom candidates arranged by her mother. Thinking Texas can’t be as bad as Newport, Rhode Island, for social engagements, Melisande pens her response and boards a westbound train.

Widower Quinton Aznar has a six-year-old son who wants a mama. Since his late wife’s passing four years ago, Quint divides his days between breaking horses for the Army and parenting his son with no time for courting. His mother manages the household and tends to her youngest grandchild, although she would love to move to Galveston to live with her sister. The telegram announcing the arrival of his mail-order bride—a woman his mother corresponded with—on the next stagecoach is a shock. Quint drives the wagon into town, intending to pay for her return ticket. The beautiful, but disheveled, woman who disembarks the stage is too dazed to trust traveling on her own. What has his mother arranged for his life?

A long Shot Chance

Melisande, in order to get out from pressure from her mother to marry in the family's social circle in Rhode Island, chooses an offer from Quint in Texas, or so she thought. Great characters, some interesting challenges both with the relationship and living conditions added interest to the story. I loved the hero's delightful son. A great romance that is fun to read.

This is an OK mail-order bride romance, with mostly likable characters, but I did have a few issues with it. It gets 3 stars from me.

First, it was just too short to have enough character development. I wanted more backstory on both Melisande and Quinton.

Melisande was likable enough, but I found it hard to believe her family would have let her move so far away to marry a stranger. From the description that was provided on them, it seemed like they would have been much too controlling of her to allow that. Also, she was a pampered society girl, with no housekeeping abilities, and no experience with children or animals -- I thought it was unrealistic that she learned to fit in with a Mexican-American ranching family so quickly.

Quinton was OK, but it bothered me that he ignored his son so much. I get that he was grieving his first wife, but his son needed him -- he should have helped his son, instead of selfishly wallowing in his own grief. It was also selfish of him to expect his mother to keep caring for his son.

I also thought that Melisande and Quinton fell in love a little too quickly to believe, especially since he didn't even know his mother had ordered a mail-order bride for him.

This is a clean romance, with nothing but kisses. If you only want to read romances that do not include sex scenes, this one might work for you.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

A QUILTER FOR QUINT by Linda Carroll-Bradd

This is book 2 in the Mail-order Mamas series. It is a stand-alone. A mail-order mama is a woman who arranges for a bride for her son.

Melisande (Meli), a Rhode Island native is scared that her mother will try to rule her life forever if she marries a local man. She takes the plunge and agrees to marry Quinton (Quint) from southern Texas. Her mother is friends with a Texas matchmaker who sets up the marriage.

Quint's young son Gabrio is in cahoots with Quint's mother in getting a new mama. Gabrio needs a mama and Quint has no intention of ever marrying again and setting himself up for the pain that comes from the loss of a most special person. Quint's mother and son do not mention that there is a mail-order bride on her way to their ranch. Quint has been lead to believe that Meli is a friend of his mother's that is coming to stay with them for a while.

Meli is just as shocked as Quint is when she arrives and finds that Quint has no idea of why she is there. Where will their lives lead? Gabrio is over the moon with happiness, telling everyone that Meli is his new mama. Meli creates beautiful quilt panels that tell a story. Highly recommend it.

Warm thanks to #netgalley for the complimentary copy of #aquilterforquint I was under no obligation to post a review.

A second chance at love?

Quint doesn't want a second chance at love, a second chance to feel the grief of loss....fortunately his mum is just as stubborn and determined as he his and once Melisande is at the ranch he struggles to remember just what his objections were, or why, especially when he sees just how much Melisande loves Gabrio and how much Gabrio needed a mother figure. Is he brave enough to love again?
Melisande is totally overwhelmed by her long, stressful journey, so when she realises just how small and rustic her new home town she is already struggling. Once the true situation is revealed you can feel her despair and anger, quickly followed by frustration that she is stuck trying to make it work as she has no other options. Your heart goes out to her but this is quickly followed by respect as she stiffens her spine and embraces her new life, seeing the new stronger, more confident Melisande emerge is a true pleasure...well it is for us but maybe not so for Quint! Meek and mild becomes sassy and feisty...but maybe that is just what he needs!
The second book in this multi author series and whilst it was very different to book one it was just as enjoyable, I read this on Kindle Unlimited

The author has penned a sweet and heartwarming story of two individuals who come from totally different backgrounds. This is Melisande ("Meli") Avenelle and Quinton ("Quint") Aznar's story. Meli has been raised in high society in Rhode Island and is totally bored with all of the social engagements her mother arranges and for the unsuitable suitors she comes up with. Meli would rather be quilting. She decides in order to escape the trappings of her mother's expectations to become a MOB. Quint is a rancher in Texas and is a widower with a young son who wants a mama. Quinton's mother decides he needs a wife and sends for a MOB for him. Will the couple be able to adapt to the many differences each of them bring to the relationship and reach a HEA. Will Quint's son accept Meli? Be sure to read this great story to find out. I know you will enjoy it.

I enjoyed this western mail order bride with all of the characters. The two main characters were Melisande Avenelle and Quinton Aznar.

Melisande Avenelle is a young woman that like to quilt than be around all the social engagement that her mother insists her to go to. But after a man decides to not count her. Her mother gives her a decision to pick from three letters that her mother received. The letter are from a woman that is a matchmaker.

Quinton Aznar is a widower with a young boy. His son is six years old and want a mother that would read to him. Since the death of his wife he been dividing his time between work and his son. His mother thinks it is time for him to find a wife. So she has a plan to get him a wife.

This was a short but fun story and also quite sweet.

I received a complimentary copy via Netgalley. This is my honest unbiased options.

Delightful story and for those who it bothers; a clean romance. Melisande has got fed up with her mother trying to find her a husband and she realises that if she lives close by, her mother will continually interfere. She learns of a marriage maker who is looking for a wife for the rancher Quint. Actually it's his mother that realises he needs a new wife. Widower Quint has a young son and his mother, though devoted would also like to spend time with her other grandchildren.

I'd have liked a bit more interaction between Quint and Melisande but it's still a lovely story. Linda is a new author to me so I shall look out for more of her work.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Quint, Melisandre and Gabrio

This is a sweet and loving mail order bride story of sorts and was written by Linda Carroll-Bradd. She has done an exceptional job with the plot and the characters. She has in clouded a smig of humor and filled each page with excitement and adventure. Melisandre is to become a bride of a rancher in Texas to escape the pushing and priding of her parent to find a husband of quality and wealth. She finds her intended unaware of her intent to be his bride as his mother has made the request. His first wife died leaving him with a young son and leaving his heart shattered. You will enjoy discovering how they find their happily ever after.

I love these stories of well-intentioned mamas who arrange for a bride for their sons. I try to imagine the shock both parties have to have felt. Quinton Azar and his son, Gabrio, needed a wife and mother. Gabrio knew this but Quint really was behind on acknowledging it. Melisande travels from Rhode Island to Texas fully expecting to be warmly greeted by her prospective groom. Linda Carroll-Bradd keeps you guessing on whether this family can finally come together, a lot of pressure for a fabric picture.

A Quilter for Quint was a sheer delight!

Loved this sweet romance about a widow, Quint, with a young son, Gabrio and the Newport, RI debutante, Melisande who chooses to be Quint's bride. Problem 1. her choice is based on how far from her parents Quint is in TX! 2. Quint never sent for a Mail order bride! Loved the heat between these two, the sweet effect Gabrio has on both and the backbone our heroine shows when needed. Great job Linda Carroll-Bradd. Am truly loving this series of Mail-Order Mamas and can't wait to read the next one.

Society Woman From the North and Rancher From the South?

I really enjoyed this book about a society woman who loved to quilt. She went as a mail order bride (arranged by a matchmaker) to a man who lived with his mother and his young son on a ranch. Quint's mother had ordered the mail order bride. Melisande immediately fell in love with his young son and his son adored Melisande.

Quint needs to get over the death of his first wife before he can consider a new wife. Will he be able to overcome his grief? I enjoyed this book and hope you enjoy it also.

Opening Up

Quint doesn't know what mama did. She thinks he needs a new wife for his son. With the help of her matchmaker friend its going to happen. Meli is drawn to the escape of society's demands so a rancher seems to fill the bill. Can he learn to accept his mothers decision? Can she adapt to the West? This charming story brings a woman to be a mother but will it she also be a wife?

After losing his wife to illness, Quinton never wanted to marry again. However, a pretty face, sweet spirit, and loveable woman might change his mind.

A Quilter for Quint is such a sweet story about moving on after loss and learning to love again. I really enjoyed reading about the characters’ lives and getting immersed in the world for this series. I’d like to venture out and check out other books in this series as well.

Sweet romance

Melisande leaves Rhode Island to marry a widowed rancher who has a young son. She's not prepared for how warm Texas is in comparison to Rhode Island. When she arrives, she finds out that Quint wasn't the one who wrote to her and wonders whether she traveled all that way for nothing. I love how she created quilts of her dreams for her life. It's a very sweet story.

Matchmaker

Excellent story with a gypsy matchmaking Texan. A very vivid book that captures the essence of horse ranching in Texas and the man who makes it successful. Suing didn't ask for a bride, but his sons asked for a mama. Miss Melissa is perfect.

My Rating - 1.75/5

When Gabrio's mother died after his birth, his father, Quinton never even thought about moving on with his life because his mother took care of his son. Then Gabrio asked his grandmother for a mother of his own which was why she decided to take matters on her own hands and consulted one of her old matchmaker friend to find her son a wife. Meanwhile, Melisande's family wanted her to choose a husband from the three choices she'd been given. She chose Quinton to get away from her hometown and went to Texas to meet her new husband-to-be who had no idea about his mother's scheme until his mother told him. She was so shocked finding herself in between Quinton's mother and the matchmaker's scheme. But she decided to give Quinton a chance. Most of her time were occupied by the little boy, Gabrio. Her and Quinton's relationship developed as well and after a bit of problem in paradise, Quinton finally had the balls to tie the knot.

I dunno this book felt really bland to me. Let's talk about the characters. Melisande, at first, was really rude; daydreaming about who knew what at the middle of a conversation. But I like the fact that Melisande's parents were not against educating their children. Surprisingly, I didn't see her passion for quilting at all. It seemed like she didn't really much care about it and quilt only to pass her time? She did make something for Gabrio, but nothing else as far I remember. Oh, she painted a picture too. Whatever! Oh, don't even let me start on Quinton. He seemed like an emotionless hobo. No offense. All he did was lecturing his child. I didn't even find him taking some time out of his schedule to spend it with his child. Ugh! he only did that when Gabrio was sick or sleeping. Quinton, Melisande and Gabrio didn't even spend any family time together. I would've loved to read about their family time rather than the unnecessary long description of Melisande's journey to Texas or how Quinton managed & trained his horses. Don't get me wrong. I love horses. But if I wanted to learn about them I would've read a book on horses instead of this one. I also didn't feel any chemistry between Quinton and Melisande. Skipped a lot. Because truly? This book was really boring. Good thing it was short. Shudder!😬

Sweet Historical Romance

I like unusual names, but I find it confusing when the characters all act like it's a common name, and no one asks about it. Not how to spell it or pronounce it right. I called this character Melissa the whole book. Even after listening to a YouTube video on how to pronounce her name right, I just stumbled over it too much.
Besides the name, I enjoyed the story, but was confused on how the Eastern rich city girl had no issues with learning a new culture and marrying into a large Mexican ranching family. It just didn't seem very realistic.
