500 Fun Quotes to Make You Smile or Think
In the title of this book, the author calls the 500 quotes in this book funny, while in the subtitle, he calls them inspirational. To me, these ideas don't necessarily go together! While I certainly did enjoy many quotes, I don't think I found that many “inspirational.” I found many quotes insightful, as the quote makers often succinctly stated human truths we all know but perhaps never think about... and many did make me laugh or at least smile. The quotes are broadly divided into topics like arts and culture, health, and men, women, and relationships. Not all quotes truly fit the topics. For instance, there were several in the men, women, and relationships section that had nothing whatsoever to do with any of that, like a quote from Ellen DeGeneres about being lost in the woods and following your own path. The book has quotes from centuries ago to modern day, from Queen Victoria to Emilia Clarke. You'll see quotes from men you often see quoted, like George Bernard Shaw, Oscar Wilde, and Einstein. It's funny to see the juxtapositions sometimes, like a quote from Groucho Marx followed by one from Virginia Woolf. I'm not sure why the author necessarily sees these as being quotes for women. While some certainly did seem to knock down men or build up women, most quotes were rather generic and applicable to all genders. All in all, I found this book a fun read.
