It took a minute to get into this story. I don't think the title fit Rue, at least not for the reason noted in the synopsis. Rue was sure of her faith and wanted to take church to the people. She had unique ideas for service and introducing people to God. It was refreshing. At an earlier age, Gerald should have explained her birthright, especially given all Rue suffered at the hands of his wife and other children. She was made to feel like an outsider for so long. Sophia was just a miserable woman. As First Lady, she showed no Christian love in the church or to Rue. How Gerald, being the exact opposite, allowed that to go on so long is beyond me. But along comes Candy (who she hates) and suddenly Sophia is this loving, accepting person. That wasn't believable. But my rating is based mainly on Rue's character who loved God, loved his people, held no judgment and just wanted to do His work and be loved. There's room for editing, but the message was powerful.
I didn’t like how Sophia had to treat Rue like she did because she didn’t want her to be like her mom, not understanding why the kids did as well.. very confusing how Sophia did a whole 360 when Candy came back.. like you didn’t show that Sophia even liked Rue a little bit but now that Candy’s back so now Sophia is all for Ruth? I didn’t get that.. I don’t get how they kept mentioning Khara only to not tell us who she was dating (I think its a woman) that’ll get the Walkers heart pressure really shooting up.. clutch them pearls honey.. idk but that really was not nice to end with that. I don’t understand why they leave us with a cliff hanger, that really make me not wanna read the next book because I don’t like when writers thinks it’s ok. Plus the book isn’t available right after this one so I might forget about it anyway and not read it.
She Nell you haven't disappoint. This was an emotional read and I really wanted to stomp Rue's brother and sister, but they were just a produce of there mother. Rue was an anointed woman of God. I always wondered how people in the church say how much they love God, but have so much hate in there heart. I read this whole book this evening and just finished. And I'm not going to start on the deacon and deaconess. Can't wait for the next book. Thank She Nell

Quite a delightful read that will keep you turning the pages to see what was coming next for Rue. Be ready for many twists and turns with raw emotions flowing all over the place. Rue was definitely on fire for the Lord's work, and I loved seeing how she wanted to help those in need by bringing the prayer to those that wanted it. 'Sitting on the Fence' was an awesome read.
This was a great story of finding oneself through years of being treated poorly in your own family Of allowing yourself to be used by God and be a blessing to others who truly need to know Him The author did a fantastic job of showing us God's grace and mercy and how he can reveal Himself in church folks This books gives you hope with the ending Very enjoyable and did not disappoint
This is my first time reading a book by She Bell and I was not disappointed. Ruth was living with Pastor Gerald and wife Sophia. Sophia had 2 other children Hanna and Johathan which she treated like king and queen and Ruth like Cinderella. Eventually Ruth had a prayer service in the park and that's where she found her birth mother homeless. She then found out that Pastor Gerald was not her father but her uncle. It's a beautiful christian novel love it
Finding out your life has been a lie is devastating. Rue/Ruth knew something was amiss as she grew up. She had a heart that was open on so many levels as compared to her siblings. She also came to the realization that there was more to her relationship with Tuck/Moses. A heartwarming story about truth lighting you world.
This was yet another great book that I saw myself in. In many ways I find myself sitting on the fence. This book took me through a roller coaster of emotions with Rue but spoke to me in the areas that I am seeking guidance.
I love reading this story because this is still happening in the world today. You should never judge a book by the cover. Rue is in fire for the Lord, as are her friends. Always good to see people helping everyone in need! Can't wait for the next story!
This is another great read by this author. The story of Rue will draw you in. I knew there was something going on, but the twist was unexpected. That sister and brother tho ... had me rolling my eyes the entire book. Lol! Enjoyable read and would recommend
This was a good read and I read it in one evening (disregarding the fact I am supposed to work the next day). Thoroughly enjoyed Rue listening to God and not doing "church " but meeting the people and being a blessing. Looking forward to book 2.
This was a good story. There were some cons in the editing but the concept and story line overshadow them. The ideas were well thought out. I liked that it wasn't all about being a fake Christian. There was actual substance to the story.
Great relatable story. I love ❤️ that the mean lady wasn’t Rue’s mom . I’m glad she met her mom and felt a connection with her. I’m grateful for her uncle/dad loving her unconditionally. I’m glad her an her band mate decided to date .
This book was good! My second read by this author and I’m hooked! I love how the characters all grow in some type of way. The plot twist comes at the right time and the story comes to a conclusion at the perfect time!
