An accursed artist? This was not Modigliani's vocation. The tragedy of his end was associated with that of Jeanne. Much to his despair, his bohemian rags became a memorable feature of his life. Behind the legend there lies an easy 'Modi' with the French word 'maudit'... Let us take a fresh look at a life, too brief.
A biography of the artist Amedeo Modigliani. Not too much is known about the short life of this doomed artist, and since he seems to have spent most of his later years under the influence of alcohol or drugs, the story gets repetitive - too many anecdotes of boorish behavior. The most fun parts for me were the appearances by other characters of early 20th century Paris : Picasso and his coterie, Max Jacob, Kiki de Montparnasse.
Christian PARISOT is a great specialist and wrote several books about MODIGLIANI. Of course loving MODIGLIANI's painting, it's very interesting to read a biography so complete, detailed. All is true, no romance .... A reproach, the style is boring, and too much desorganized.
When you love Modigliani, the more you know, the more you want to know. You just can't get enough of this artist. So this one by Parisot is good, but it's still too short.
