When Micah gets to the doctor's office he finds out his doctor did not send for him. He high tails it back to his ranch and learns his granddaughter has been kidnapped.
This story was a good read. All the characters were presented properly and were realistic. The author made a good decision to make this as reasonable as possible and in so doing made a good story.
Old men and women are never old in their heart's. And very often their age and experience are more profoundly important that the ravages of time on their bodies. This courageous hero deals as much with th enemy of his failing body as he does with the exterior enemies. A very good read.
What a great book. This is a great story it's a kidnapping and an interesting old love take that ends in a very unexpected way. I totally enjoyed this book and highly recommend reading it to anyone who enjoys a good book western or thriller. Good job by author C. Wayne Winkle.
Winkle with a wrinkle... Author is to be complemented. A dirty of verbose padding, with a sprinkle of compassion, dedication, empathy, and , prominently... the ever real presence of the old fickle finger of fate. Your surprise ending (s)? A human-dinger!! Thanks, Wink!!! You lived up to your promise. FDJ
This is the first western book I have read written by C Wayne Winkle and it was well written and held my attention throughout the whole book,I couldn't put it down, the twist and turn near the end was a nail biter. A must read
Being from Oklahoma and growing up in Arkansas, I knew the area around Mena and the feelings that use to exist toward indians. A good reading story, but the justification for the scenario a real stretch for a personal vendetta.
A one sitting read. The story definitely grabs you and doesn't let go for a minute. There are none of the usual lulls in the intensity of the chase and a huge twist that is completely unexpected.
This was a excellent story, one which will keep you on the edge of your seat all the way to the end! Vengeance is mine, sometimes, this one has a wild ending!
Micah is retired from the US Marshal's. He is enjoying his time with his family on his ranch. Little does his family know, he is suffering from Cancer. He has told no one as he does not want anyone to worry or better yet, make him bed ridden. He gets a telegram from his doctor up at Ft. Smith. He gets his things together to go for a week long trip. Addie sleepy eye comes down to see where her grandpa is going. He tells he to go back to bed and he is going to the doctors. As soon as Micah leaves Nathan Priest moves in for the kidnapping of Addie and they also take her friend Lucinda with them. In order to get the girls, Nathan shoots Addie's father and kills Lucinda's father. Nathan, his 4 cohorts and the 2 girls set off to a cabin far off. When Micah gets to the doctors office he soon finds out his doctor did not send for him at all and he high tails it back to his ranch to see about his family. He gets home to learn his granddaughter has been kidnapped and who all has been hurt or killed. After talking to Addie's father, he now knows who he is after and gets his things together to go hunt the man down. Before he can leave the ranch, one of his hired hands Jed, stops him as he wants to go along. After a long talk the two head out. What will happen? Will the ex Marshal find them? What will the body count be?
I loved this western read the characters pop and the story line keeps you reading till the end. I had a hard time putting this book down. There are some amazing secrets in the story along with some fantastic twists. I was totally wrong in who set the plan up to take out Micah. Wayne does an excellent job with the story, the knowledge, and the characters so much so you don't want the book to end.
One of my favorite characters was Jed. An innocent young man who feels as Addie is his little sister and Micah as his father and wants to help get her back. He learns a lot along the way and turns out to be a strong man. There are some funny scenes with Jed.
I do hope there will be more westerns like this from Wayne. He has a fan in me.
I was sincerely impressed with this story, and although this is the first story I have read by Mr. Winkle, it most definitely will not be the last. I was definitely impressed with the storyline, as well as the impressive characters.
Definitely worthy of the five stars I awarded the novel and I have no problem recommending this novel to those of you who appreciate real life western escapades. This story is very heartwarming and has enough mystery to enhance the many exciting escapades happening along the way.
Do yourself a special favor and read the book, as I am quiet sure you will be as impressed as I most definitely was.
Good writing good story line in this book however he complicated the story with the Thea and Rachel twist. It really hurt a good book. Mr. Winkle needs to use simplicity. The last twist ruined a potentially good book.
