Two days. In a span of just two days, the paths of three complete strangers are forced together in a way none of them could have foreseen or even thought possible.
Two days ago, Eric Winston was about to be a made man. As the head of Mjollnir Industries he had operated at the forefront of the criminal underworld for over three decades and was finally getting his chance to join the big leagues. An international conglomerate of businessmen and government officials that come together to form one of the largest drug rings in existence. Winston’s final task before being officially brought on board? Host a one-night, winner-take-all event featuring the best underground fighters in the world. Everything was in order, until a competitor had to back out...
Two days ago, Will Honeycutt was an anonymous Portland firefighter, doing his best to provide for his young family. When the St. Rita’s Orphanage burned to the ground and he pulled a half dozen children to safety, he inadvertently thrust himself into the public eye. Now, accompanied by local surgeon and brother Heath, Will sets off to begrudgingly attend a banquet in his honor.
Two days ago, FBI special agent Mike Manus was doggedly working the case that had killed his father nearly three decades before. When a call comes in that could finally unlock the puzzle he’s been trying to solve his entire career, he boards a plane in pursuit of what he hopes will finally be absolution. Operating as the head of a joint task force with the Portland FBI and the marines, Manus will do everything he can to avenge multiple fallen agents and to finally put his own long-tormented conscience to rest.
Twelve is a tale that effectively melds the three seemingly unconnected worlds of Winston, Honeycutt and Manus. Over the course of just two days, their stories become inexorably linked to one another, moving forward in a tightening spiral that will remain with all three for the rest of their days.
I originally hail from the midwest, growing up in the heart of farm country, and still consider it, along with West Tennessee, my co-home. Between the two, I have a firm belief that football is the greatest of all past-times, sweet tea is really the only acceptable beverage for any occasion, there is not an event on earth that either gym shorts or boots can't be worn to, and that Dairy Queen is the best restaurant on the planet. Further, southern accents are a highly likeable feature on most everybody, English bulldogs sit atop the critter hierarchy, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with a Saturday night spent catfishing at the lake.
Since leaving the midwest I've been to college in New England, grad school in the Rockies, and lived in over a dozen different cities ranging from DC to Honolulu along the way. Each and every one of these experiences has shaped who I am at this point, a fact I hope is expressed in my writing. I have developed enormous affinity for locales and people of every size and shape, and even if I never figure out a way to properly convey them on paper, I am very much grateful for their presence in my life.
To sum it up, I asked a very good friend recently how they would describe me for something like this. Their response: "Plagued by realism and trained by experiences/education to be a pessimist, you somehow remain above all else an active dreamer." While I can't say those are the exact words I would choose, I can't say they're wrong. I travel, live in different places, try new foods, meet all kinds of different people, and above all else stay curious to a fault.
Here's hoping it continues to provide us all with some pretty good stories...
Crappie proof reading. This guy writes a fast moving exciting story and the typos take seat from the readers enjoyment. I have read many of his books and it is always the same. He deserves better.
I can not sing enough praise for the book. What another amazing book. It kept me reading it for two days. I could not put it down. Dustin Stevens has an wonderful mind for thrillers among other things. I can see the action in front of my eyes as it is happening. He has such a great talent using his words to make you see the action as it is happening. I have seen movies with similar plots but they were so boring compared to the book.
My second book from this author. His characters are always likeable. His writing is fast paced, riveting, and exciting. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Highly, strongly recommend. You will not be disappointed.
The plot in this book enables the reader to continue looking forward to the next page. It is very well told and a bit reminiscent of The Hunger Games. I regret having to give it only 3 stars (it deserves better), but I was continually having to stop and report content error (typos, usage errors, etc.), to the extent that I was annoyed enough to finally just keep reading so I could finish the book. I've read several Dustin Stevens novels and never had that experience to this degree. I would suggest the author replace his editors and recruit people who will more closely examine the writing. I think an injustice was done to Mr. Stevens during the publishing process.
A surprisingly good story. I really liked the beginning with an almost rogue firefighter saving children as a !one ranger. I didn't think I would like he book when I realized it was about a fighting ring. t I did skim some of the fight scenes, not my thing. But the overall plot and twists kept me reading and away from things I needed to get done. Dustin Stevens is a talented author. I will continue to look for his books.
I enjoy all of Dustin Stevens books and have read most of them. But WOW! This story is very different from what I have read in the past. The premise of betting on fighting to the death is really creepy but made for a spellbinding story. Well developed as always. Mr Stevens always releases just enough information to keep you guessing and turning pages. And I’m naive enough to be glad the good guys always win in the end.
This is 6th of Dustin Stevens books I have read. They hold your attention, are exciting and quick moving. Good and likeable characters. Great storylines. I have enjoyed all and have many more to check out. Great way to spend afternoon "sheltering in place" Thanks!!!!
NOTE: as a proofreader, I was disappointed in this book, as it has way too many small gaffes; spelling, grammatical and factual errors. But not enough to detract from enjoying this one.
Another Dustin Stevens great! Read in just a few short hours because I couldn't put it down!! Will and Heath are brothers brought into a situation neither could imagine would ever possibly happen. If you are going to have to fight for your life, better to have your brother there to help.
A bloody but merry romp. Bonded brothers in the wrong place, at the wrong time, slug their way to dawn and survival. The characters lack depth, but it isn't really a drawback.
This book was exciting and so suspenseful that it killed me to put it down! The story was so interesting and I was taken to another world of things I had never knew about. LOVED this book!
3.5 - not my usual genre - i picked it up thinking it was a book I'd heard about regarding jury tampering - guess i should have read the blurb first. 😂😂
But i was hooked from the intro, so that's a sign of good writing. There was plenty of suspense to keep my interest to the end.
I usually choose a novel by vetting recommend for you selections. I'm either a Lucky guy, or I'm easy to please. Truth is I bumble into a lot of well written novels in my search. I definitely recommend any thriller reader to take a bite of this one. Nice job Dustin.
Twelve is a very familiar number and is associated with many facets of our lives; religion, time, our calendar, treatment programs, education, and in terms or units of measurement. None of these things are going to get mentioned as you read this thriller, but one thing will stay with you at the end. The bond between brothers and the will to survive is greater than you'd imagine and "EVIL" does exist. Thanks for another great read and writing that keeps the reader turning pages.
Really liked reading this book. For anyone who has ever found themselves in any physical altercations may well enjoy reading this book. The dynamics of the two brothers working together for a specific goal kept the story flowing nicely. Adding to that the underground activity they unwittingly found themselves caught up in, made this exciting read well worth the effort too read it. Great job is all I can say!
Love, love, love this author! Not sure how I found him, but I can't get enough of him! This was probably the strangest book of his I've read. A local hero thinks he's the guest of honor at a dinner, only to find out he's an unwilling participant in a fight to the death! When he invites his brother to join him, things get complicated for everyone. Somehow the brothers are going to have to figure out how to survive!

Very different from other Dustin Stevens books in the storyline but still a very good read as are his others. I particularly enjoyed the visuals going on in my head at his descriptions of the combatants and the scenery around the building that housed the contestants and spectators.
Both of his books I have read so far, have this tragedy in them that pertains to the story. Even though they. are fictional, could there have been some truthful to this that pertains to some incident in his life. He certainly writes as if he had some first hand experience. Irregardles, they have been excellent reads.
