Nuclear fallout wrapped the planet in a blanket of soot, blocking the sun’s rays, wreaking havoc on the atmosphere. The planet was plunged into a deep chill that would last for years. Plants withered. Animals died. Famine exacted its toll on the human population. From the initial firestorm and the spread of smoke to the destruction of the Earth’s ecosystem.
Nuclear winter took no prisoners.
This is how the world ends. Not with a bang, but with many nuclear bombs detonated around the planet. It was no longer a topic of conversation around the dinner table as in years past. Nobody was prepared, including the world's governments. Yet the threat was always real and the devastation was predictable.
The damage was incalcuable. Millions died at the points of impact. Nuclear Winter spread across the globe. A rapidly cooling climate shocked humanity and all living things ... to their death.
Akart's new Nuclear Winter series depicts a world on the edge of nuclear Armageddon. Nuclear Armageddon became reality and ordinary Americans are paying the price.
This is more than the story of nuclear conflict. It's about the devastating effects wrought by Nuclear Winter. Our possible future is seen through the eyes of the Albright family whose roots stretch back to the early settlement of the Florida Keys.
While they fight for survival, they trek across a rapidly deteriorating landscape wrought with danger from both the elements and their fellow man.

Nuclear Winter Devil Storm is an appropo title for a number of reasons for the fourth book in the Nuclear Winter series. As the scattered residents of Windward Key in Florida drag themselves through those last few steps to home, the Devil himself might well have interfered.
Lacey, Owen and Tucker had to come from California. Most devastating to them was losing Owen in Colorado. But their journey through a monster hurricane is the most traumatic for Lacey and Tucker.
Back at the family resort which has now become a survival compound, the family and the staff become joined as one in their determination to survive at all costs. Everything is boarded up against the hurricane, particularly their hydroponic, solar powered greenhouse.
Detective Mike, the head of the family, almost loses his life by disregarding the old adage, "Never allow a viper to warm itself at your own bosom." By allowing in the broken body of Patrick, he inadvertently brings the serial killer into his home. Patrick is nursed back to health and schemes how to take over the property. Jessica is cut badly as Patrick steals a knife from her and then slices Mike's lung open. Fortunately, Mike is still able to fight back and kills Patrick. Both Jessica and Mike survive this Devil's attack.
Finally, Mayor Lindsay gets punch drunk on power when President Henley declares martial law. She decides that the "Conch Republic", otherwise known as Key West, is ceceding from the US and puts up roadblocks on the only bridges connecting the islands, then blows them up with explosives. The POTUS is enraged and vows to get even. Peter Albright and Willie Free are caught on the opposite side of the barrier. When the devil of the government gets through with them, Peter is badly hurt and Willie disappears during the hurricane.
One last bright note. As the Albright family is celebrating being mostly back together again, Mike says he hears a helicopter. Since Lacey and Tucker narrowly avoided an armada of Coast Guard ships, he carefully opens the door, expecting trouble. Much to Mike's joy, it is one of the last guests they had. He and she had formed an instant attachment and she comes back to be with him. Cue sunbeams.
I have been a fan of Bobby’s for many years. I’ve read all of his books at least twice and have listened to the Audible version of many of them. I have loved each and every one of them and have had my favorites, until the Nuclear Winter series. This series has by far surpassed all the other stories to being my all-time favorite! From the characters who I now look at as friends to the action throughout the story, I cannot find a single thing not to like! Now in book four, my emotions were all over the place, but they were mostly on edge. (Yeah, Thanks Bobby for that!) What the Albright family endures is beyond what my senses could fathom as I held my breath wondering which of my favorites would be alive in the end. (Just a side note, do not EVER let this author know who your favorite character is because chances are that they will be killed off in the next book!) Thankfully, they are still standing, or I should say, barely standing! Surviving shootouts, boats almost being overturned, bridges being blown up, stabbings and much…much…more, I’ve learned just how strong the will to live is in each one of them. Hopefully, the worst is behind them, but I have a feeling that what is ahead in book five will make book four look like a trip to Disney World! So, if you love a story that keeps you guessing about what will happen next, surprises that you never see coming, love of family and friends and survival than this is the one to read. Seriously, you won’t be sorry that you did.
Mayor Lindsey Free has declared the Keys are independent of the mainland and evicted non-residents from the islands, blockading bridges to keep the asylum seekers out of her little fiefdom. Mike Albright is laying in a pool of blood, a knife wound in his chest from the hand of Patrick/Patricia. Peter Albright has made his way from Washington D.C. to the bridge across the Keys, linking them to the Florida mainland. Halted by Lindsey's barricades, Peter attracted the attention of Jimmy Free, Lindsey's nephew, drafted into working the barricades. Jimmy is trying to get Peter away from the mass of bodies pushing to get through the barricades to the paradise represented by the warm Keys when shots ring out. Lacey (Albright) McDowell and son Tucker are on a boat making their way to their family home on Driftwood Key. The family will, God willing, unite.
With world tensions at an all time high, minor players in the nuclear ball game couldn't hold their water and let fly the dogs of war. Nuclear dogs. Pakistan and India exchanged a couple hundred missiles at each other. Iran saw its chance and lobbed a few missiles at Israel. Israel responded in kind, maybe a few more than Iran, but who's counting? The fat little maniac in North Korea cackled with glee as he hit South Korea and Japan, then sent the rest at the U.S. Several thousand tons of radioactive dust and debris were launched into the upper atmosphere, where it quickly spread out and covered the world, blocking sunlight and warmth from the surface. Ash and debris continued to fall, covering the surface with a radioactive blanket.
Does this scare you? Are you frightened? I am. All this power in the hands of a few megamaniacs. It's bound to happen. Who will start it? Who will press the button first? Doesn't matter. The whole world will feel the results. If anyone survives, the next war will be fought with sticks and stones. The author is doing his usual best to frighten the hell out of us, a teaching lesson, a warning, an attempt to urge us to be prepared for whatever scenario will threaten our survival. Prepare for tomorrow because you never know when or what will happen to our fragile existence on this bright blue marble.
The characters are perfect for their roles and the storyline is as educational as it is horrifying. The master storyteller, the prophetic guru of our demise, Bobby Akart has succeeded in urging my half-assed attempts at prepping for the future to take the next step and prepare. Because you never know when yesterday will be the day before.
In Book four, Devil Storm, Author Bobby Akart, he has once again brought together real-world struggles and moral challenges no one hopes to ever face in his Nuclear Winter Series. Akart’s approach in this series is not a traditional apocalyptic thriller but it shows what happens after the bombs go off and we are left with the seldom discussed aftereffects of nuclear war, Nuclear Winter. The characters continue to develop and grow as they face getting back to their families or struggling to keep what they have. How do we deal with tyranny when it comes knocking at our own door? Tyranny, an obstacle America has not faced in over 240 years. I highly recommend getting to know the Albright family and how they learn to survive.
There's a quote before the story actually starts that I really like.
'The Devil whispered in my ear 'You're not strong enough to withstand the storm.' Today, I whispered in the Devil's ear 'I am the storm.'
As in the other books there's a lot going on. Peter is crossing the border, there's a strong military presence, some bridges get blown up, Lacey and Tucker are making their way to the Keys, Peter and Jimmy and caught and, to top it off, there's a major hurricane coming.
A couple of the characters get caught in the storm and it become a strong question of which of the main characters who aren't already in the Keys will make it back or will the storm, the military or other people kill them first? As with his other books in the series this one is dark but still very well done.
The characters are clearly converging on Driftwood Key, though by the end of this book, I'm still hoping for one more to join the group. We now have an odd hurricane that is a threat as well. There were times that the run-one-step-ahead-of-disaster seemed to drag out as more of the same. There were some editing issues with a big one occurring when Mike is at the hospital trying to stop some gunmen who were shooting people in the ER. However, "Hank broke cover and quickly moved"; this should be Mike and not Hank who was back at the inn. Still, overall I enjoyed this and look forward to the next book.
Nuclear Winter, the aftermath of unimaginable weather conditions has added to the chaos and agony survivors are undergoing. POTUS is having a difficult time managing the chaos this event brings. The mayor of the Florida Keys has taken it upon herself to separate the mainline from the keys by blowing up the the bridge used for entering from the mainline. She has become a despot, a dictator of sorts obsessed with her power. She has the local sheriff as an ally and the National Guard at her r disposal. Another excellent read in this series!! Enjoyed immensely!!
I dislike like books that drag out a story that could have been told in 1 or two books out past 5. This book just jumps from one bad thing to the next. Not much story. I'm sure if your already a fan of this writer you will like it. I did like the first book and the second was pretty good too. But instead of wrapping up the story and giving it a good ending. Just more trouble. I kept waiting for all the characters to merge and start surviving. Tired of waiting.
The ongoing adventure of a family living in the Florida Keys when the US is hit by Nuclear weapons from North Korea and Iran and Israel are nuking each other. The power grid is down and this family has been kept up with fuel, food and family. The Mayor is rotten to the core and the family must find a way to survive being cut off from the US main land. And on top of all of that, an early hurricane hits and no one knows because there is no electricity. Join the family as they struggle to survive.
The Key’s Mayor goes to extensive means to prevent the President from claiming the Keys. As a result both Jimmy & Peter’s lives are placed in mortal danger. Lacey’s family heads from land to sea in their homeward quest. The entire family is beset by an unexpected hurricane, that strikes each of them in a different dangerous manner. Secretary Bergmann is dispatched to the Keys to deal with the recalcitrant mayor.
Wait for it, wait for it, as the saying goes. DO NOT WAIT, READ!!!!!
Outstanding series. This from someone that does not read many post apocalyptic thrillers. This is well written and informative as well as wonderfully exciting. You honestly care about these people. Thrilling read.
Roller coasters have highs and lows. Most books have ebbs and flows. This book was like screaming at the top of your lungs as you crested the top of that first hill but it didn't stop. Kudos to the author for the most exciting thing I've read in a looong time... Can't wait for the next book in the series!
Another super fantastic story by Mr. Bobby Akart! Wow, I can wait for the last book to come out. I love the characters, well Mayor Free could definitely use some work done on he, it was a shame the storm didn't take her away. Every series I read from Mr Akart is better than the one before.....I do have my favorites though.
The results of the nuclear storm are still raising havoc as Peter, Lacey and her son Tucker are still fighting through unbelievable hardships to get home to their family in the Florida Keys. What else can stand in their way and will they make it in one piece? You will have to read the book to find out and I really suggest you do.
I grew up in South Florida, a few miles north of Homestead, so I have a vested interest in stories about my old stomping grounds. This is the 2nd apocalyptic/disaster novel centered in FL that I’ve read. I have to say that both have interesting premises, but, sadly, both are badly in need of great editing and some advice about a more mature writing style.
While good can still be found it is seasoned by the overwhelming need of the masses. Some Will make it home while the fate of others remains undetermined. This story should be a wake up call for those with ears to hear and something to at least be considered by the skeptical. Love the epigraphs.
Books are a drama based on a post-apocalyptic nuclear winter and one family’s attempts at a reunion after with family spread across the Lower 48. Definitely, with some suspense and some action scenes, they draw you in with all the activities and incidents surrounding family. I can’t put them down!
I've read 4 books in the Nuclear Winter series. They have all been exceptionally, exciting and wonderfully interesting, but the first in the series spoiled me. It was so realistic, scary and breathtaking, I fear his following books did not reach that peak.
Enjoyed reading. Characters well developed. I can’t wait to read book five. Not surprised that politicians are evil and are only semi constrained by the constitution!
Great series! Good character development. Not all amazing saves, characters develop and make mistakes. They are not amazing preppers, but people surviving horrible circumstances
As the series continues to tell the story of the Albrights and family there are more unique situations and plenty action. As the members of the family try to recover from the nuclear attack, a hurricane hits their home.
The author and the narrator never disappoints, the narrator Kevin Pierce is a perfect for many genres. If I see both names on a book I know I will not be disappointed.
Peter and Lacey have struggled and barely survive to make their way home. The question of the serial killer is answered and the beginning of a fiefdom is under way. Sonny and Phoebe will lose someone precious to them. Overall a good story.
I loved it! Action packed! I have really become invested in this series and with the characters. The fact that it is centered around an extended family from the middle FL Keys is just icing on the cake as I lived in the Keys for 5 years.
This book has so many important characters, at least it seems so to me, that it's hard to put it down. It has so many great stories intertwined with each other. I recommend reading this book to anyone.
The realism of this series continues to scare the deal out of me. Good story telling and heroes to love dealing with villains one could easily encounter in real life.
Great continuation of the Albright s struggles surviving a nuclear winter. Staying alive against the atrocities of their desperate human peers is also a tough assignment. Highly recommend this book.
I loved this book by Bobby Akart. I also loved the characters. I can’t wait for the next book in this series. I would recommend this book and all of Bobby’s books. I listened to this book on audiobook.
Oh my gosh!!!! I could not stop reading this!! I was both shocked and not surprised about Lindsay and the sheriff. I wish the author would have followed up on Jimmy. That was the only let down.
