This is such a fun series. You don't have to read them all (but you'll want to) and if you don't have to read them in order.
Avery Middleton is a southern girl living outside of Charleston, South Carolina. She loves living on Sullivan's Island, having the beach right outside her backdoor. David Daniels is an ER doctor at MUSC (Medical University of South Carolina), and brand new to South Carolina. He's young for a doctor--only twenty-seven, but that happens when you start med school at 19. Avery thinks David's cute in a "nerdy, little brother" way, but once they start spending time together that might change.
I loved Avery and David's first meeting--him trying to put up plywood on his windows because there was a hurricane in the Atlantic. I found it very funny because I live in the New Orleans area, and it reminded me of how recent transplants react when there's a storm in the Gulf. Some start planning to leave as soon as it's labeled a Category 1.
I liked Avery but that girl was WAY too trusting of her ex-boyfriend, Tucker. Good thing she's got Melba as a neighbor to give it to her straight. I thought it was sweet that Avery taught David about sand dollars, but when she got him to try raw oysters I thought I was going to die. There's no way I could've managed to eat one--I don't even like them fried.
David is SO adorable. He's young and super smart but kind of socially awkward--he doesn't hold anything in, it just all comes out. I loved that he and Lucy had been friends since they were residents, and thought the scene of her husband John giving David dressing advice was fun.
This isn't one of those boy/girl live next door to each other and instantly fall in love stories. David has feelings for Avery right away, but he has to win her over and it takes awhile since she thinks she's getting back together with her ex. This is a clean romance.
