The title and cover art brought the word ominous to mind and yet I couldn't resist the intrigue. I started to read and was compelled to keep turning the pages. I wasn't sure if Detective Inspector Ruth Savage was up for her new job in Templetown, a small seaside village but I quickly changed my opinion as the investigation proceeded. This mystery was gripping, engrossing, and riveting reading.

Ann Reid was a new author to me so I quickly explored what else I might be able to read since the book has a (c) 2021. I was quite surprised to discover that "Cold Dark Secrets" appears to be her 1st novel. It didn't read like a novice writer. I didn't find any social media presence so I can only hope she's busy writing and writing and writing. I can't wait to learn what Ann Reid has in store for DI Ruth Savage and Templetown in the future.
