Angels in the Fire: The Dramatic True Story of an Impossible Rescue by Dann Stadler is the story of the author and his wife, Tracey, specifically of the horrific accident that struck them on the night of September 7, 1989, as a result of a head-on collision with a drunk driver who was driving at 75 miles per hour in the wrong lane. It was their fourth wedding anniversary and they were returning home from dinner to Tracey's parents' house where they were then vacationing.

The novel begins in the present tense, in the third person, describing the events that led to the collision. The crash causes the cars to char, killing the drunk driver on the spot, but Dann and Tracey miraculously survive. The high-speed impact leaves behind twisted metal, and results in both the Stadlers becoming a wreck of their former selves.

When fire extinguishers could not douse the fire, and it grew in intensity every second, some people made an almost superhuman but unsuccessful attempt to break the door down and rescue the couple while a man dropped down to his knees in prayer and supplication.

And then suddenly in front of everyone's stupefied gaze, a lone figure emerged from the woods and reached the car. Tracey's spirit recognised the figure as Jesus, her Saviour, even as her lifeless body was taken out of the car that no one could open just moments earlier.

While Dann's body caught fire, everything from the bumper in crashed on Tracey's lower body, leaving her with sixteen fractures between her pelvis and knee alone. They ended up staying in hospital for more than four-and-a-half months, undergoing numerous surgeries and skin grafts in an attempt to repair the damage.

Medical experts warned them that life would always be a struggle, in which they would be largely dependent on others even for small routine tasks, and that they would never be able to have another baby. At the time of the crash, the Stadlers were parents to nine-month-old Meghan.

Contrary to these dire predictions, both Dann and Tracey went on to live a normal life as far as possible, including taking up their jobs without any respite in their responsibilities. They also went on to become parents for the second time to Rebekah and later adopted a third child, a baby girl, who they named Emma.

Interestingly, the last thing that Dann remembered telling Tracey before the crash occurred was to keep her seat belt on. In many ways, Tracey's faith works as a safety belt for the couple, helping them to survive and thrive in spite of all indications to the contrary.

The book is a remarkable testimony to the fact that when God tests us with difficulties, He always tempers those difficulties with His steady love and grace. The account is also a reminder that God's angels are always with us, and that they guard and guide us, and watch over us as we go through life.

Besides these angels, Stadler also thanks the many real angels that helped them with their support and presence. These angels included his own parents and Tracey's too. Tracey's father takes up the task of looking after little Meghan while her parents are in the hospital.

While it seems incredible that anyone could still be alive after having been through such a terrible accident, the fact that the Stadlers are alive is proof that miracles happen and that when the going gets tough, faith is all that is required to live life well.

I received this book free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. The following opinions are all my own.

I've always been drawn to true stories that defy explanation without supernatural intervention because they can't be explained rationally and make me wonder about the larger picture that we often can't see. Despite that, I'm usually quite doubtful of the way that some people read supernatural into every things that happens in their life from leaving two minutes later and avoiding a wreck on the way to work, to not having rain on a day they planned an outdoor activity. I'm not always sure I see miracles as often as some other people do but now and again there comes a story that defies all other logic. This is one of those stories and I was deeply moved and touched by it.

The true story follows a young couple who are in a horrific car accident that probably should have claimed both of their lives and the years of physical therapy that followed. One of the most interesting parts of the story is when an unidentified man pulls the wife from the wreckage and knows her name. Nobody knows who the man was or where he came from, only that he was there exactly when he was needed, like an angel. I think that stories like this are most keenly felt by those who were there to see these events first hand but I felt like I could see and feel the same things through the way that Dann told this story.

I was so taken by the story in this book that I sat down and read it all (or mostly all) in one day. It was hard to imagine what life was like for this couple during this incredibly difficult time in their lives when so much was happening but their tale reminds the reader that good can come even out of bad things. I found myself wanting to cheer with the victories or cry at the setbacks, right along with the family. It takes a good writer, one who is wholly open and honest about the good and the bad, to deal with their personal life in such a public spotlight like this and make the reader really feel their emotions. After reading this, I felt like I was there and had seen the struggles over their recovery and finished the book feeling moved. Sometimes, as a reader, you finish a book and just want to sit in silence and absorb what you just read without trying to explain it or move on to something else. That's how this book was for me.

***narrative about an angels miraculous rescue***

Angels in the Fire reads like a fascinating fictional suspense, however the Stadler’s story isn’t fiction according to police, firemen and other eyewitness accounts. It’s a tale of miraculous intervention after a drunk driver hit their car head on at 75 miles per hour. By the time police and firemen pulled Dann from the burning wreckage there wasn’t time to reach his trapped wife, Tracey.

At that moment “…a silent lone figure” walked from the nearby woods. Bystanders said the figure, “…his face aglow…” reached into the burning car, lifted the terrified woman from the wreckage and placed her alongside the road. That’s where Tracey’s story begins.

The couple was on vacation in Florida to visit Tracey’s family with their nine-month-old daughter, Meghan. They also planned to celebrate their fourth wedding anniversary with Tracey’s twin brother Tommy and his girlfriend. The future looked bright for these twenty-seven-year-old college graduates. They both had landed well-paying post-graduate jobs and recently signed papers on a new home. And the future was bright until a drunk driver turned south onto the northbound Florida freeway they traveled.

Dan has no memory of the impact, only his warning to Tracey when she said she was undoing her seat belt, “…it’s more uncomfortable lying in a hospital bed because you didn’t have your seat belt on.” He couldn’t know how prophetic his words would be.

Tracey, on the other hand, retains vivid memories of being trapped after the impact, of the angel who rescued her and where she went, but has no memory of the crash itself. Only her recall of the intense pain when she opened her eyes and saw “…everything below her waist was crushed…” the car’s engine and dash crumpled against her legs. When she saw rescuers pull Dann through the driver’s side window, her silent prayer, “please, God don’t let me burn.”

That’s when the “lone figure” Tracey would later identify as an Angel appeared….Full Review:

Angels in the Fire by Dann Stadler is a very, very good book. It is a true story that is full of tragedy, pain, sadness, but more than those things this book is full of peace, love, hope and pure excitement. I’m so very glad I got the chance to read this book. It is a must read for everyone.
I love to read about people’s death experiences and how God helps them with angels. Things like this may happen to all of us, but we just don’t realize that it is an angel that kept us away from being harmed or worse.
I love to read when someone has a tragedy in their lives and how they keep on fighting and won’t give up, won’t let the devil get in the last word.
Tracey doesn’t only see an angel and go to Heaven, but during her life she sees many angels and is helped to escape many things. Angels are all around us and help us always, but Tracey can see them.
Reading Angels in the Fire really is an encouragement to me and will be to anyone who reads it, because even though we believe angels are all around reading this book just makes it so much more real. Reading Angels in the Fire makes you so excited about Heaven.
Angels in the fire tells of Dann and Tracey’s struggles after the car accident and the many things they had to go through. I was amazed at how sweet and loving their attitudes remained and how long it took for them to heal.
This book as I said before is a must read and I highly recommend it. This is one of my favorite books of 2013.

This is an amazing true story of the many trials one family has gone through and the miracles that have happened along the way! Dann and Tracey Stadler were involved in a horrific car crash in 1989 when a drunk driver hit them head-on as he drove down the freeway the wrong way. Tracey was trapped and the car was on fire when a man walked out of the woods and saved her. Tracey and others present knew he was an angel. Both Dann and Tracey weren't expected to survive due to their extensive injuries, but they did and have recovered more than the doctors thought possible. Dann explains the events surrounding the crash and following it, describing the many surgeries they endured and the reactions of their family as they went through this. He also shows what he and his wife were thinking and feeling, both the ups and the downs, as they persevered through their long recoveries and other trials they've faced and he explains how the miracles and divine encounters didn't stop the night of the crash.

This is a very encouraging story as you read how they battled against such long odds to not only survive, but also get back a somewhat normal life. Their positive attitudes even though they both has aftereffects from the accident are admirable and the other miraculous happenings are amazing! It's always good to have a reminder that God is still working today and to know that He has a plan. I definitely recommend this book!

"Angels in the Fire" is a story made all the more riveting by the fact it's based on a true event. I read the book from cover to cover in one sitting because the moment I opened the first page I just couldn't put it down. It is one thing to read a fiction book and place myself in the situation occurring, but it's something else quite different to read about something that actually happened and think about what it would be like to go through that! The Stadler's experience of not only surviving a horrific crash, but having a divine encounter with Jesus and Angels, is very soul-stirring, demonstrating the power of prayer and that the God of the Bible is the same God of today, able to do the miraculous. The account of their experience is well-told, and I enjoyed experiencing the story from their different perspectives. I leave the book more aware of God's presence in my own life, and the work of angels in the world around me. Any book that blesses my relationship with God is a book worth reading!

I am confident that anyone reading this book will have their faith challenged and inspired, and I encourage you to pick up a copy and see for yourself. I strongly recommend this book and award it 4 out of 5 stars.

This book was interesting to read. This couple certainly has endured more than the average person in life, and their faith and devotion to one another was inspiring. Several times I thought of the story of Job while reading about one tragedy after another, hitting the Stadler family.

I do believe in divine encounters, but each reader will have to decide for themselves what to take away from this story. The book focuses mainly on the after effects and the recovery process, after the accident that almost cost this couple their lives.

2.5 stars.

The plot in itself was good. However, the writing could have been better. It was annoying that it kept jumping in time and point of view. And I think the title was a bit misleading since the accident happened right in the beginning of the book and the rest of the book was just about their recovery and basically just a list of "miracles" in their life.

This story gave me chills. I know God is good and angels exist. I believe I even encountered one once, but all the ways that God intervened in this couple's life is nothing short of awesome. If I took the time to recount God's intervention onto my life, I could share a similar story. this is definitely a story of hope and God's goodness.

Short uplifting read of normal people experiencing divine encounters through the trials of their lives. If you read the Bible and wonder why there are no modern day miracles, read this!

I'll be honest. When I entered the Goodreads giveaway for this book, I thought it was going to be about firefighters and their jobs as community servants because I didn't read the descriptive blurb closely. After winning and receiving the book, I quickly found the real story to be just as intriguing and quite a journey. I was glad that I was given a chance to read and review this book.

Right from the beginning, the reader is made aware of two things. One, a horrific accident took place on that September evening in 1989. Two, the couple's faith in God is a major driving force in both their rescue and recovery journey that followed. Their faith is exemplified from the first paragraph where they give the other driver a false name in order to spare his family anymore grief or hurt. That takes a large amount of compassion and forgiveness and isn't often seen in the world today.

This book draws information from many sources including news media, eye witness accounts and the accounts of both Dann and Tracey as well as their family members. If you are a tender-hearted person, I would recommend having a box of tissues nearby as the story of their recovery will give plenty of awe inspiring and praiseworthy moments.

Because the book is written by Dann, one of the survivors of the crash, we're given a lot of glimpses of their lives. I think the open and honest way in which everything is presented allows the reader to feel as though they are there alongside the couple and experiencing everything at the same time. The way the journey is arranged is straightforward, beginning directly before the accident and continuing through their immediate recovery before finishing to present day. While the not stymied in medial jargon or filled with every detail, the record Dann has crafted moves along at a comfortable pace that really allows the reader to absorb everything. From the desperation felt during the frightful moments just after the crash to the triumph of overcoming the adversities through strong wills, gritty determination and a fire-hardened faith, everything is laid out for the reader in a way that is easy to understand.

In the end, I truly enjoyed reading this book. Dann and Tracey Stadler's faith goes beyond words. They live it, breathe it and practice it without hesitation. It was so before the accident and was reaffirmed through their trials and tribulations. Yes, many parts were difficult to read through but I imagine the difficulty was many times worse for those who lived through it. If you are looking for an uplifting, inspiring read, then I suggest you pick up this book.

This is the true story about a young married couple, Dann and Tracey Stadler, with a wonderful future ahead of them; suddenly their lives are dramatically altered by a drunk driver. The drunk driver hits them head on and is instantly killed but miraculously the couple are saved. Dann and Tracey's car catches fire; people help get Dann out, but it is impossible to get Tracey out. Witnesses see a man come out of the forest, remove Tracey from the car and touch her face. He instructs the crowd to take care of her. The both survive the horrific accident but suffer physical ramifications that will last the rest of their lives. Can their marriage and faith survive? Their lives are impacted and all that they've known is changed. This is one of the best testimonies of the Lord rescuing His children from a tragedy. It is a powerful story of miracles that continually happened to the couple throughout the years.
If you read 90 Minutes in Heaven and Heaven Is For Real and were encouraged by these stories, Angels in the Fire is a book you must read! It will encourage you, touch you and challenge you.

I received this book from Bethany House, a division of Baker Publishing, for my honest review.

It has been a long time unfortunately that I have been able to pick up a book for enjoyment :(. However, after a few years of only reading professional books I needed a break. My main go to books are light, upbeat and easy reads usually..... This book WAS done in a matter of a few hours because I couldn't put it down (I couldn't put down the Kleenex either). I can't do justice to this book with a review and will simply give a few sentences. I am in awe of the situation that the characters endured. The way it is written I continued to think of m own family and how hard it is to imagine everyone pulling together to live. We all look at books about miracles and watch tv people talk to the dead, but the way angels appeared to this couple is utterly amazing. I love how Tracey keeps things under wraps, but knows there was more there than strength pulling her through. I highly recommend this book and not want to give it all away. The story line continues sat their crash and through more miraculous experiences of life. Love this real family and I am truly inspired by their courage and love!

Angels In The Fire by Dann Stadler is a faith lifter! If you're one of those people who suffers from chronic pain, a disease which keeps you in constant pain or you just plain suffer then this is a must read for YOU!
Be warned this is a somewhat.sad very realistic story of real people who literally went through the fire.
I am a believer in God's angels. I believe that God sends His heavenly beings to help us, humans, and to protect us.
Dann and Tracey were involved in a terrible car accident that a drunk driver caused. They lived! But only because God sent His heavenly beings to surround Dann and Tracey.
Dann and Tracey have gone through surgeries, pain, and despair but God sends His angels to minister to them just a the right time.
In chapter 19, on page 184, Dann tells an shivering tale of how God's angel saved Tracey from certain disaster.
I love the ending, "I do hope readers find inspiration from our story, gain insight into their own struggles and know the trails of life are but fleeting to God's abiding love."
This is a book that is for all walks of faith. An encouraging read!

I don't usually read very much non-fiction, but when I was offered a chance to review this book, the description really grabbed me and I instinctively knew that I wanted to read it! This was an amazing true story about God's love and faithfulness! I loved it! While reading this book, a part of me was thinking 'oh my goodness, how did they survive all this' but that part of me was consistently overruled by the knowledge that the answer was very simple: God!
This book was exactly what I needed right now, I learned so many things from it!

Overall, I loved this book! It was really neat how it almost like a novel, definitely different than your average non-fiction book!
I highly recommend Angels In The Fire. If you read it, I guarantee you will be as inspired by it as I was!

This was a fantastic book to read! It was hard to put down!
The book takes you through just a roller coaster ride of emotions. I was impressed with all the great help that they received and the people that were put in place to take care of the whole situation- it was definitely God taking control.
I was impressed with their belief in God, that they knew that He would take care of things and if they were meant to be than they would happen. I am also glad though that they shared the struggles that they went through as well.
Very inspirational, very real.
I am not sure that I would be so focused, positive, or focused on God. I had to take a hard look at my own faith, maybe one doesn't know until they are put in that position.
I would recommend this book to anyone. It is very moving so keep the kleenex near by. I was given this book by Bethany House to read and write a review about it. This is my honest review on the book.

Dann and Tracey Stadler’s lives were changed forever when they hit by a speeding drunk driver going the wrong direction on a Florida freeway in September 1989. Dann had severe burns and multiple broken bones, and Tracey “died” at the scene, experienced a bit of heaven, but returned because she did not want her baby daughter to grow up without her. Now, 24 years later, Dann shares their amazing story of God’s love and His angels ministering to them at the scene of the accident, throughout their recovery and into their eventful life filled with chronic pain afterwards. He candidly shares their pain, doubt, and discouragement as they clung tenaciously to God and claimed that His plan was best for them, no matter where it took them. At times the story seemed drawn out and redundant, but overall it was an inspiring testament to God’s faithfulness.

This book must have taken a lot to write because it would be like reliving their accident and all that happened but then again probably a healing took place to put their lives in writing and take a look at our truly thankful they do feel. The book isn't the type of book that you can't put down but it's the type of book that your heart melts and you want to read just because you feel closer to God reading it and you want that feeling. You look at yourself and think I don't have it so bad with all they went through. I don't want to spoil the book but to me it's a must read if you want your faith deepened in Our Lord and all what He can do because they sure went thru more than the average person will ever go through. It will have you re-thinking angels and the special parts they play in a person's lives if we are aware of our surroundings.

There was no way Dann and Tracey Stadler could avoid the drunk driver speeding toward them. Moments later, with Tracey trapped in their burning car, a lone figure walked out of the nearby woods and saved her from certain death. Seconds later, he was gone. But the disappearance of this stranger was not the end of God’s tangible intervention in their lives.

As the Stadlers struggled through grueling recoveries and heartbreaking setbacks–even years after that fateful crash–the miracles and divine encounters continued. For the first time, the Stadlers share these incredible moments, offering an inspiring testimony to anyone enduring heartache and loss.

What a wonderful and thought provoking book. This book gave me goosebumps numerous times. A must read!

Although this book is a survival story about Dann and his wife Tracey living through a fiery car accident that should have ended their young lives; it is more involved than one devastating crisis. It is a testament to the fact that God walks with us through our hardest times; and in the midst of heartbreak He touches us with His love. Their journey can be summed up in a sentence Dann wrote: “The trials of today merely lay the ground work for the triumphs of tomorrow.” When you read their story you will feel the touch of angel’s wings, and come away with hope in a loving God who sends help for your own trials. This is a fast read, one I had trouble putting down. I happily give this ARC of Angels in the Fire 4 stars.

Angles in the fire is a very Inspiring book for those who doubt their faith in the God. I read Angels in the Fire in one day, I could not put it down. Dann and Tracey Stadler never once gave up hope, even knowing that the odds were against them, and they might not make it, or how they would make it if they did. With their faith in God, made them even more determined to beat the odds. Just when they would start getting their lives back together, one tragedy after another would strike. Through all of that Dann and Tracey continued to press forward in their faith. They were even able to forgive the person who caused their serious injuries. I want to thank Dann Stadler for sharing his and Tracey’s story. I would recommend this book to everyone I know.

This true story is interesting, inspiring and moves along quickly. It is the account of a couple and their family, the experiences they have with answered prayer, and the ways that God helped them through a horrible car accident and their subsequent life.

The first part of the book is written in third person, present tense, which is pretty attention-getting and it kind of ratchets up the reader’s awareness, anxiety, and expectation. I think it is a good way to grab the reader’s attention from the first page.

Angels in the Fire is an amazing story of tenacity, physical survival and endurance, faith, and love for one’s family.

If you like true stories of faith--especially in near-death experiences and angels intervening, you will most likely appreciate this book.

This is an amazing account of a true story. I love stories like this
because it makes me so glad that I know my Father in Heaven, and to know that His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

This account is well written, has all the drama and suspense of some fiction stories. However, there is no doubt that God is the main character here, the Worker of miracles. I recommend this book to anyone who would like see how God works wonders in His children's lives. Of course, this is not something that happens everyday. But, then the story of Job wasn't something that happened everyday either.

I won a copy of this book as a First Reads winner. The book arrived promptly.
It was a fast, easy, read.
I do believe in miracles and in angels, so I found the book interesting.
I also found it repetitive in areas.
Sometimes Dann Stadler was "looking" for a miracle - as soon as he learned of his mother-in-laws cancer he assumed it was going to be fatal, and, when it wasn't, found it to be another example of mercy to them. No, you shouldn't have made the assumption before finding out the facts!
I wish the Stadler family the best in the future.
