Was a HUGE mistake.

to sign up for his arranged marriages.

Captivating storyline with secrets, betrayal, danger, surprises, and romance. I enjoyed Chase and Lou Ellen’s story, the characters were believable and ones that the reader can relate to. Returning for a pack reunion, neither Chase nor Lou Ellen expected the events which followed. I loved the final chapters. Chase has come home for a family reunion, it seems that everyone who has left Gulch Point is coming back for a massive reunion. His supposed ex-wife Lou Ellen may show up but he pretends that it doesn't matter but it does and when he sees her his heart knows what it has been missing and it seems that Lou thinks so too but neither will admit it. They are about to go on an adventure of their lives in order to get back to each other if that is possible with the new alpha of the Winrunners making decisions for the whole pack without anyone's consent. A very interesting and different storyline, the characters are strong and fascinating. Drama suspense, mystery, romance. and love. Alpha’s who aren’t Alpha’s, and female shifters without any gumption or backbone

Once again J.L. Wilder has managed to take a fairly decent (if not a little trite) plot and turn it stupendously sour.

**SPOILERS**

Lou, a middle aged wolf shifter has a successful life in Atlanta. She’s single, since her ex-husband divorced her years ago, and focused on her career. She returns to her small hometown for a ten year reunion, her best friend accompanies her. She knows she might run into her ex-husband, if he’s back from a photography assignment. He literally left her a decade ago without telling her, and sent her divorce papers. He was even too much of a coward to end their marriage in person, a-hole. He left and went off to become a globetrotting in-demand photographer who spent several years just sleeping with everything in a skirt, shifter and human alike!

At the reunion Lou does indeed “run into” her ex, Chase. Chase has aged handsomely, and is surprised at how much feeling he still has for his ex wife. He knows he was the one to divorce her, and that he did so in a cowardly manner…never even reaching out to her in a decade, but he came to the reunion with the specific notion and hope of seeing her again. He’s arrogant enough to believe that his ex won’t hold a grudge against him for running out on her and serving her divorce papers by mail.

Chase quickly comes to the realization that ten years has vastly changed his ex-wife. She’s still as beautiful as ever, but gone is the young wolf shifter he’d married…now she’s “stronger” more assertive and confident in herself and her abilities. He starts to wonder why he ever ran off on her in the first place, and contemplates getting back into a relationship with her.

Lou, for the most part, has forgiven Chase for his abandonment, and their divorce. But still harbors a bit of resentment toward him, a little anger at his actions and how he hurt her when he just disappeared. Of course none of these feelings stop her from sleeping with her ex-husband! Yup. One minute she’s “salty” over the fact that he abandoned and divorced her (he was a real coward and jacka&&)…the next, she’s assertively chugging whiskey with him, making jokes and jumping his bones. I think this is J.L. Wilder’s attempt at showing us an assertive, confident, knows what she wants, woman. A woman who doesn’t necessarily need a man, but will use him to get off. Only Lou’s character is written in such a way as to make this impossible. She just comes off as flighty and frankly, stupid- stupid for just “giving in,” “letting go,” of her anger, and becoming chummy, buddy, buddy with her ex - her ex who just so happens to still be a cowardly jerk, who has regrets, but still thinks he did the right thing FOR HER by leaving.

There is this ridiculous subplot (it intertwines with Lou and Chase getting back together) involving their evil wolf Alpha who is “destroying” their little town and ruining their pack. Oh, the evil Alpha also decides that all members of his pack, regardless of the fact that many of them have moved away, are going to be RANDOMLY (oh yeah, sooo randomly, since he’s choosing the pairings) mated to each other. It doesn’t matter if they want to or not, every single shifter in his clan is going to be mated and matched up. It’s such a ridiculous subplot, and involving other non wolf shifters is silly because we barely get any mention of them, even though they’re quintessential to the evil Alpha’s plan.

Lou, for all her supposed intelligence, and corporate know how, comes off as a really dumb divorcee who changes her mind as often as she changes her personality. And Chase is just such a pathetic Alpha wolf shifter. A cowardly, infantile, man-whore who just suddenly decides that he wants his ex-wife back, and believes he knows her better than she knows herself.

Of course they end up together at the end. Lou gets pregnant from one of the sexual encounters she had with Chase while she was just “having fun” with him. And Chase, who tells her and everyone else who’ll listen, that he left Lou’s decade ago because HE DIDN’T WANT A BABY. He didn’t want to start a family…well, he’s just gung-ho and totally thrilled with Lou’s unplanned pregnancy *eye roll*. Oh, and if that’s not ridiculous enough, Chase - The globetrotting, selfish jerk that divorced his ex, Lou, ends up AS ALPHA OF THEIR PACK. And Lou, the once successful, thrilled to be living in the big city of Atlanta, business woman/shifter is totally happy to end up in her small hometown having a bunch of “cubs” and standing by the side of her stupid ex-husband.

This WAS NOT a good shifter romance. The plot was ridiculous and unbelievable. The events/situations felt forced, and hurried. And the characters lacked any true depth or substance.

I keep reading these J.L. Wilder books in hopes of finding/reading one as good as the first one I read of hers…I’m obviously failing miserably, because three books after, they’re all terrible with two dimensional characters, and MMC’s (Alphas) who are thoroughly unlikeable, and female main characters that are supposed to be strong, with wills of steel…but ALWAYS end up rushing into sleeping with the Alpha’s, caving to their demands, turning submissive as heck, and either forgiving or explaining away the Alpha’s dirty deeds (horrible actions and mistakes). *SIGH* Seriously, if you’re looking for a satisfying shifter romance, you won’t find it here.

I'm loving this series, it's great to read about characters who have lived, who aren't fresh out of college or in a first-ever relationship. This book is about Chase and Lou Ellen, two very likeable and believable characters who have a history. They are easy to relate to you feel like you know them, so well are they drawn by the author. The storyline is both exciting and captivating and features lots of action, intrigue, danger, betrayal, surprises, and surprises. The chemistry between them is palpable even after all this time.

Neither Chase nor Lou Ellen expected to reconnect or that the alpha would try to force marriages on everyone, the events which followed the pack reunion were such a surprise but will there be a HEA in line for Chase and Loue Ellen?

A enjoyable story about old high school sweetheart shifters who married and split up are reunited during a shifter reunion in Gulch Point for their pack. Chase a photographer who's traveled the world hoping to reconnect with Lou Ellen and Lou Ellen whose job in Black's Investment is shaky because her boss propositions her instead of the promotion she expected decides to go home. When they both realize their Alpha Blake has a ulterior motive for the reunion to bring the females back to mate them, can Chase stop Blake's plans for for Lou Ellen since he wants her for himself? This was a well written romance story with personable characters I volunteer to read and review this ARC via Booksprout.

Chase filed for divorce a decade ago from Lou Ellen and they took separate paths outside their pack. But they’ve both come back to the reunion. There’ve been changes since they left, the council has been disbanded, the new alpha hasn’t allowed new matings. A single look between Lou Ellen and Chase says they still excite each other. Before they can explore what they still have, the welcome party is interrupted by rival wolves.

After the battle, Chase and Lou Ellen surmise the alpha has anointed himself king when he decrees he will pair all the singles the next day, no one can leave and claiming must occur within a week. The alpha vaguely offers Chase a slot in his inner circle making Chase wary. Hours later it’s confirmed Chase was right to be suspicious.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading the story about a second chance at finding love between Chase and Lou Ellen and the Wind Runners wolf shifter pack. The alpha of the pack has called for a reunion and he has plans for them all. He is taking their choices away from them, but Chase and Lou Ellen discovered the plan the alpha has in store for them all. He wants war with all the southern clans and packs, but he now has to go through this power couple. There is lots of action, how steamy moments between these two powerful wolf shifters and finally a HEA for all the pack.

Lou Ellen was expecting a well earned promotion, instead she was propositioned by her boss. Sleep with him or no promotion. She nearly goes she Wolf on him. Later that day she lets her besty Grace, convince her to return to their home town Gulch Point for the school reunion. She needs time away to clear her head.
After returning to Gulch Point for the school reunion, Chase Savage is sitting at his friends bar having a quiet beer when he doesn’t get a friendly welcome from a couple of pack males, words are exchanged and ....

This was an entertaining, well-written older female, Second Chance At Love, Wolf Shifter Romance Story by one of my favorite authors. This book 4 in The Midlife Shifters Book Series was interesting and has well-thought out scenes, characters and story. These characters have strong personalities and their interactions are realistic. This entertaining story has the following: intrigue, twists, turns, adventure, action, love, steam and a HEA. It is a fast-paced book that will keep you engaged from start to finish

I really enjoyed this book. Midlife shifters is a really great series and this book does not disappoint.
Lou Ellen and Chase are entertaining characters, well written and with great detail.
Lou Ellen has a life, she left her pack, her family too live her life and make something of herself and she has.
Chase ran from Lou Ellen ten years ago and now he's back, can he make amends, does he want to make amends.
A great tale that had me engrossed. Lots of twists and turns, love, pain, passion and regret.
I highly recommend this book and author.

Lou Ellen and Chase return to their home town for the shifter reunion for totally different reasons. Boy was it a mistake. The current alpha has plans for everyone and needs them in town at the same time. There is lots of danger and suspense. The main characters have good chemistry and grow closer. Did I mention they used to be married? This second chance romance is worth a read. Another great story from this author.

A sweet reunion for Chase and Lou Ellen

This is book four in the series and features Chase and Lou Ellen. There is a reunion scheduled for their wolf pack and there is a rumor about what the Alpha actually wants. so both of them make the decision to attend separately. They have not been together for many years. Chase said he had to get away to get his dreams of being a photographer. Lou Ellen and her BF Gracie live in Atlanta and work in corporate. What will happen when Chase and Lou Ellen see each other again. There are a few happy endings. Read On!

A crazy story of a takeover By second rate alpha

Good characters In the story. A bit of suspense that as a story goes you realize this is a takeover by somebody trying to manipulate a mass group of people. Kind of sounds like today actually. It's a shorter story in length which makes it nice if it's All the time you have to read to read. There were parts I liked about this book and parts I thought were unnecessary. But the writing was good very few editing mistakes that I could find

It’s a good read, I enjoyed that they were mature people more straightforward than younger ones. I did have trouble with the author forgetting if they had separated a decade or two decades ago. There’s a big difference between ten and twenty years. Clothes disappearing and reappearing when shifting was troublesome, as was their genetic inheritance know by others but not themselves. All in all, I did like it and can recommend it.

This book is about Lou Ellen and Chase. They married young, but Chase ran away. Lou Ellen leaves, works for a big firm in the big city and a big pack reunion brings everyone back. A lot has changed and the new pack leader tries to have Chase eliminated from competition and tries to arrange marriages among the members. What happens next is amazing. I loved reading this book and couldn't put it down. Thank you. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of the book.

Reunion from hell! Something is going on in the pack and these two are determined to find out all with their friends. It’s dangerous, crazy, and so misleading, how do you follow an alpha if you don’t trust him. There’s also a bit of romance going on too, can get smoking.

The reunion turns out to be a lot more than any of the pack bargained for ... assigned mates or you’ll be the enemy, war. Chase and his ex Lou know something is definitely wrong. Chase lacks something in his life, Lou Ellen is sick of men trying it on. Lou is an headstrong woman and loved that about her.
Chase is charismatic and cheeky a great combination. Add in a dangerous situation and you have a great read.

Not bad

It took awhile for me to into this book which surprised me. I had to tell me myself to keep going it well get better. It did get better but when it did to me it went quick from there then it was over. It was a bit disappointing even though I like Chase and Lou and what happen when they were young to what was happening now.

This one wasn't as good as the others that I've read so far but I'll admit I'm not reading them in any kind of order. I liked the main characters well enough but the plot at a lot of holes in it and without giving any spoilers I'll just say it didn't keep me engaged as several of the other books in this series have.
