Midlife isn't too late, it's just in time. North of Forty-Nine is when the adventure begins!
They say when a woman reaches “a certain age” she becomes invisible. But what if it isn't true? What if power, adventure, and romance await if you're brave enough to take a chance?
Widowed single mom, Bonnie Virtue, is trying to pick up the pieces. She's feeling adrift and alone in an empty nest. In search of a second chance and a restart, Bonnie decides to take an Alaskan cruise since, lately, she's not even brave enough to wear a swimsuit in public. Figuring the frozen northern climate might be easier on her hot flashes than the summer heat, Bonnie bids bon voyage to suburbia. Soon a chance encounter and leads her down a road less traveled.
Change of life becomes an understatement when Bonnie's midlife turns into an adventure she never imagined. New powers come with ancient enemies, and Bonnie must decide if an impulsive choice at forty-nine was the best decision of her life or a deadly mistake.
Magic, menopause, and adventure await, North of Forty-Nine.
A new paranormal women's fiction starring Bonnie Virtue, a 49 year old widow, who heads to Alaska on a small cruise ship. An entertaining twist on the myth/legend of Santa Claus that includes mystery, magic and a touch of romance.
This is the first of a series on which midlife woman Bonnie finds herself unemployed and widowed, so heads out on a cruise to Alaska where she ends up stranded in a strange town and falls for enigmatic Saul. There are quite a few narrative threads woven here that come to fruition with a good hook at the end. Bonnie, with her white hair, warm heart and strength gives us an alternative hero to this traditional tale.
The story was okay. The male love interest was weak at best. I was very, very disappointed with who the characters were when they were revealed at the end of the story. Santa Claus. Really? I am not a fan of the retelling of fairy tales or fables and felt blindsided. I will not continue with this series.

A book I got as an arc because I read books from Rebecca before and she offered me this new series. It is different as the widows Bay series, but there is magic involved in this one too. Very special magic you just have to believe in it or see it with your own eyes.
Bonnie has sold her house, stopped working, now her kids all left the house and she took a cruise at 49 years old. Not to somewhere tropical place, but to Alaska on her own. Sounds like an amazing area to go on a cruise to.
But when Bonnie and the ship crossed the 49th parallel something changed in her. The cruise is almost over and there is one excursion to do, when the ship gets into an accident with an iceberg and Bonnie is flung over board and saved by Saul. With that rescue her life will change forever, because Saul brings her home with him, but at his home she sees a different Saul. What is happening with him and at the island? Bonnie can't just stand aside and do nothing, so she helps. With what? For that you have to read the book, because I don't want to give away any spoilers. It took me, just like Bonnie a little time to get the link on what is really happening on this special island.
If you like to read a good story with magic in it and of course some evil to fight against, this is your story.
Wow, I loved it! Bonnie Virtue is a widowed mother of three and coping with an empty nest, job loss, and hot flashers. She decided to take an Alaskan cruise since she's at loose ends, and who knows the cooler climate might be refreshing when a hot flash hits. The last thing she expected was to be thrown overboard, and then saved by Saul Stanac. Bonnie quickly realizes that something is amiss on the small island where many of the ship's crew and passengers well be stranded until the weather clears. She also didn't expect to become the one person who can free the island from the machinations of an evil witch and the being who controls her. Wonderfully well written, and unique characters through out this book. They're quirky, compelling, and sometimes made me laugh. Fabulous! I think this is an amazing beginning to an excellent series with some excitement, suspense, magic, and unexpected twists in the plot. I couldn't put it down!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
What a grand adventure this turned out to be for Bonnie Virtue. A widow at forty nine finally taking time for herself. A grand Alaskan cruise on a small ship with none of the entertainment of the larger cruise ships. She wants walking trails and to see and feel nature. It made her feel alive again. She didn't count on a ship crashing and being saved by a Viking or so he looked. Saul was handsome, nice and generous. He offered her a place to stay. But his housekeeper Ulla had other plans and Bonnie wasn't in them. This book was interesting, intriguing and intense. It was not what I expected but I couldn't put it down. I liked that it had great characters and they all fit their roles. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I can't wait for the next book. I voluntarily agreed to review this book. My review is my own honest opinion. I can't wait for the next book.
This was an interesting book. It was a good story that seemed to get lost now and then. I don't really feel like I have to read the next 2 books.

I was very intrigued by this 49 year old Savannah woman named Bonnie who had a career in logistics and when the kids leave home and her office downsizes she heads out on an Alaskan cruise. That this Southern woman finds herself very comfortable in the cold and at home on an Alaskan island kept me curious as I waited for her paranormal abilities to manifest. At about the 75% point, when the big plot twist occurs, I was disappointed about the direction the story took because it felt like it turned from an adult story to a young adult story which is okay if that’s what you’re expecting. That said, it’s written very well, the characters are well drawn, it’s imaginative and contemporary while using historic characters.
The Snow Wife was a GREAT read! Bonnie Virtue embarks on her first solo adventure and gets a lot more than she bargained for in the undertaking. Little did she know how much her would life would change when she wound up stranded on a little island near Alaska. The makings of a holiday movie, this fantastical tale is full of wonder and awe for Bonnie, a mature woman who is herself just north of 49. Magic is in the air and her go-get'emness and heroism will save the day. And the pop culture references are awesome. I got'em even if the locals didn't. (LOL)
Wow what an excellent story! A brilliant twist for Christmas and Santa Claus My first book by Rebecca Regnier and it won't be my last...I truly enjoyed reading The Snow Wife. The author takes us on a ride of a lifetime...you'll understand that statement when you read the book. And you have to read it...it is exceptionally magical. The characters are wonderful. I love Bonnie, Saul, and Dr. Langley...you couldn't find better for this story. Bonnie being on the north side of 49 years old was the best...she kicked some butt in the story. I almost finished it in one sitting...but sleep won over. Highly recommend
Bonnie is on her later-in-life adventure. She is funny, menopausal, and single. She decided to take a cruise to Alaska, so jelly. But her last stop doesn’t go as planned.
The author doesn’t disappoint with plenty of references to chilly winter weather. Her rescuer and emergency accommodation don’t go quite as planned. While she waits for the weather to let up, she makes herself useful with her Never-ending optimism and baking expertise.
Saul is a strange character. He is quiet but steady and aloof. His domestic manager is depressing at best and mean as well. The author brings in legends and magic of Chris Cringle, and all of a sudden, this story becomes more of a Christmas read and paranormal as well.
Ah, a true Christmas miracle in a short story, but I love it when the heroine saves the day.
It was a cute holiday romance read with some known holiday characters and an unknown storyline, but it was enjoyable and wintry.
Bonnie Virtue is taking the trip of a lifetime but to her its just a small little adventure a cruise to Alaska a place she will find is full of magic and not just the magic of the Northern Lights. There's plenty of laughter, magic and Mystery and a little bit of danger and then theres the handsome Saul something magical has finally brought these together this is just the beginning can't wait for book two.
I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.
Bonnie Virtue was a widow and just laid off from her job. Her kids are grown and moved away and she has nothing to tie her to her house, so she decides to sell and enjoy her life on the north side of forty nine starting with going on a cruise. While on the cruise they approach the island of Vsyastrana and ship hits an iceberg and Bonnie is throw overboard. That is moment her life changes forever.
I'm rather embarrassed to say that I haven't read this book until now. I've had it on my TBR since it was released.
This was such an amazing, clever and loveable book. It had me hooked from the first pages! I loved this book from beginning to end! Now, I'm anxious to move on to Book 2.
Highly recommend this book if you like some twists to you legendary stories!!!
I liked this well enough to finish it but not well enough to continue the series or read another book by the author. The concept is decent and the setting is really interesting. But generally the book was bland and predictable. The characters needed more work. Bonnie felt a lot like a stereotype of a southern lady and the male lead could only loosely be called a character. The romance was utterly unbelievable, mostly because Saul barely exists. Overall this was pretty underwhelming.
I loved the whole idea of this story. The plot was good but the characters seemed rushed as did the story telling. I don't like leaving a 4 star review for a decent book but I was hoping for more depth and this didn't deliver. If you are just wanting a quick feel good read with some action and mystery then you will like this. It is cute and I love the concept. Hopefully book two is more fleshed out.
Didn’t realize what I was getting into! But loved every moment!
What a ride! As the pieces of this story fell into place , I fell in love with the characters. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series.
The world this author created is amazing. This is an easy read and - Fast paced My grammar is terrible, but I’m trying to express how inviting and charming this story was to read. I loved the magic and air of mystery throughout the story.
The Snow Wife slowly builds into a paranormal story, as Bonnie Virtue first copes with her old Savannah life having fallen apart by small-ship cruising in Alaska. The mystery, the magical powers and events, the menace, and yes, the romance, all combine in a unique tale that reflects north of forty-nine in both latitude and age.
What a fun read, filled with charm, a bit of mystery, and a touch of fantasy. She thought she was just going on an Alaskan cruise but her adventure became so much more. Just wait to find out who she meets! Delightful. Definitely recommend if you are looking for a quick, easy way to pass the time.
This book, provided to me as part of the PWF book club, is a fun and new take on a myth with which we are all familiar. The main character is relatable, especially to those of us north of a certain age, and the storyline is full of magic and mystery. Rebecca Regnier has penned a fun, interesting, and well-written book that is sure to grab the imaginations of her readers.
I really enjoyed this easy read. Interesting twist on an old tale.
I did run into a number of word usage errors, wrong word used or misspelled, a lot of comma splices, too. (Sorry, stuff like that really jumps out at me.) A little tighter editing would probably solve most of those pesky errors.
A great start to a new series! I really enjoyed Bonnie and Saul's story and couldn't put it down. It's a well written story that takes you on an Alaskan adventure filled with mystery and magic. I can't wait to read more. I received an ARC for an honest review.
I was pointed to this book by another author and I found it very enjoyable from start to finish the last couple of chapters threw a spanner into my thoughts of the book as it went somewhere I was not expecting it to go. Looking forward to next one now.
A very different take on legends. It is a slow starting book making it somewhat of a scramble to make sense of it. It has a happy for now ending with the next book coming to pick up where this one left off.
Absolutely loved this 1st installment. The magic, the characters are fun, lots of history on the Santa legend. I love the play on North of 49. Having just passed north of 49 recently it really spoke to me!
Wow! This is a big surprise story! After stumbling upon this book, I was intrigued by the summary. I finally got a chance to read it and it’s WONDERFUL! I was hooked from the first chapter!
What a great new series! This book had all the best elements. Cozy romance, a mystery of sorts, humor and SANTA! The ending was done just as well as the rest of the book and left me wanting more! Can’t wait to read book 2. This is a must read!
