I was born and raised in God's Own Country, Kerala, a tropical paradise in India. In Kerala, we are followers of St. Thomas, the Apostle, educated by Christian missionaries brought by colonizers from Portugal, France, and Britain. 100% literacy and high educational standards in Kerala have led to many progressive movements, including Communism. Kerala has many unique records, such as a model COVID-19 recovery rate being higher than most Western countries. The first place where communists became democratically elected to power in world history, ruled as such since 1957. The resulting industrial desert brought on by Communism forced me to pack up my bags after obtaining my Industrial Engineering degree (with specialization in Total Quality Management) and seek a job in Bombay (the commercial capital of India).
I soon realized my prospects beyond the factory floor became limited by my dark skin (as a lungi-wearing Kala Madrasi). Fearing for my future, I fled to the South to escape the racist professional ladder. I obtained my MBA in finance as a candidate for national integration. Providentially for me, in 1990, the entire Indian economy collapsed under the weight of the half-a-century-old mighty Indian License Raj. The result was a liberalized Indian economy. The timing was impeccable, as it provided me the opportunity to start my career as an Investment Banking Analyst. Fortune smiled upon me again when the 1996 stock market crash in India allowed me to come out of my investment banking career.
India took the socialist route and, during the conflict of the 1970s with Pakistan, which declared emergency rule. Due to the Pakistan war and other non-alignments, the US and India’s relationship soured, and IBM abandoned India. Hail to the vacuum (to be filled), TCS and the other Indian IT conglomerates were born out of desperation. They coded us in IT to kickstart the legacy computers and mainframes left behind by IBM. Thanks to the biggest blunder in business history (Y2K), IBM and the other western enterprises saw us (‘Cyber Coolies’) as the thrifty solution to fix the doomsday Armageddon code.
During this time, I managed to migrate from corporate finance to ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) solutions and snatched my passport to the epitome of capitalism, the USA. Nevertheless, in 2000, the (Netherlands-based) BaaN Brothers got involved in the Dutch scandal, and the #3 ERP (BaaN) system I was riding became a dead horse.
Since then, I have spent over a decade volunteering for PMI. I have etched my name on PMI’s key standards (including PMBOK, OPM3, PP&PM, etc.), thanks to my PMI papers, publications, and books (especially Project Portfolio Management Standard). I even served in Gartner’s PPM board room panel and later became one of the three PM Methodology SME at E&Y. In 2008, amid the economic tsunami, I served as an advisor to CFO’s office, setting up the Project Portfolio Management Office for a Fortune 10 World's Most Admired Company. I saved them around a half a billion dollars, but I became the victim of my short-term financial engineering. I managed to capitalize on the 90s legacy Hyperion Enterprise and moved on to the fancy world of a CFO’s suites of products for more prominent Financial Engineering in the BIG4 consulting world.
In 2009, I packed my bags for the Cambodian Jungles in search of answers from the bottom of the pyramid through Chinese GIFT (Global Institute for Tomorrow) – a Clinton Global Young executive Leadership Program (YLP). This is a well-researched book. The author has made a great effort to write this book. It helps you deepen your understanding of the present American Economy.

This book has a lot of great points! Some of them I totally agree with. I have been saying them for MANY years. I have seen us turning into the next China for decades. We import everything and the things grown and made hear are exported or run by foreign countries. We need to restart manufacturing and farming for ourselves (Also the oil, gas and other mined minerals) It's one thing to help those in need, but you need to take care of yourself first or you are no good to anyone! If we were to stop giving jobs to "illegals" and were to pay fair wages to those on public assistance and unemployment, that would be a start. Those that are working for this type of pay are no better than slaves! Lincoln said, "United we stand, divided we fall." Well we are falling, people! It's time to catch each other and hold them up so we can stand together! We need to get back to our basics!

11/8/20, China (Belt & Road Initiative (BRI, formerly One Belt One Road). Well that is at the top of President-elect Creepie Joe’s list for 2021.
Unfortunately, the stats are outdated & the impact of COVID-19 on China's zooming loaning/investing can only remain to be seen.
The Communist Party of China (CCP) control’s 2/3rds of the clandestine commercial loans with arbitration clauses through offshore banks.
4/3/1948, The US Marshall Plan (European Recovery Program, ERP) transferred billion’s in economic recovery programs to bail out impoverished Western European countries.
2015, The Chinese government introduced the Digital Silk Road (DSR) to enhance their worldwide competitive IT infrastructure (internet, optic fiber cable; 5-6G telecommunications; eCommerce: electronic payment systems, cryptocurrencies, digital free trade zones).
The US economy is declining in the world's GDP (15 %) compared to China (20+ %).
The US healthcare system (snake oil) is poorly planned out & socially irresponsible.
Do we need to keep reminding America how far behind we are in Science, technology, engineering, & mathematics (STEM).
There are other things that needed to be improved/kept up with: AI, & wind turbines or alternative fuels: biofuels, hydrogen & electricity.
Most people are suffering financially.
We can’t completely blame it on COVID-19.
Currently, the US spends as much on military spending as 10 of the other global countries do.
I saw the 1980 comedy film The Gods Must Be Crazy, but I didn’t understand it until it was explained to me.

An awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very professionally written political book. It was quite easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a huge description list of unique characters, settings, facts etc. to keep track of. This could also make another great political movie, a classroom PP presentation, or better yet a mini TV series or even a documentary (A & E; History channel; Frontline; PBS). There is no doubt in my mind this is an extremely easy rating of 5 stars.

I won a copy of this book through a Goodreads giveaway.
Let me note - I'm assuming this is self-published, because if an editor has gone through this book, it was poorly edited. At one point people are referred to as "financial-engineering frogs" - frogs? Does the author mean frauds - which would make more sense [if the author sincerely means frogs, then I've no idea what he's trying to say]. This book has a number of typos. The font used for the quotes was difficult to read, too; especially for longer quotes.
Yes there are a lot of charts -- bright colourful charts. Unfortunately they were difficult for me to figure out a) what information the charts were presenting, and b) at times it felt like being in a PowerPoint presentation - too many charts looking the same after a while.
For me, this book did not work, I didn't learn anything new, and it was not an enjoyable read.

I’m sure it is more my fault than the author, but I was not able to comprehend much of what was being written. The same pictures seemed to be overused. The graphs had useful information, but many really strained the eyes. In addition to this, the fonts for quotes were not easily readable. Again, I’m sure it is me and not the author, but it feels like a thesis paper gaining fame from the title of a popular movie. (Yes, he does say that the title was inspired, but the title does not match the book)

Not much of a book. And who is the author? Not Maverick.
A mishmash of repetitious screeds warning the US of its failing status in the world. Not that the book is wrong (how was Goodreads hoodwinked?) but all the graphs and old war quotes and Chinese art make it a jumbled mess. The whole concept could have been done with a editorial piece in a newspaper.

Repetitive
There are maybe 15 pages worth of good material. The other pages are just rephrasing many times what has already been stated. Add in unnecessary quotes from Sun Tzu and you have a boring book.

Overall a good book
Overall this was a pretty great book that took the reader on a journey explaining why the United States is no longer positioned to be the dominant super power of the world and how China is edging us out. This book showed how flawed our caplistist system is and needs an FDR-esque intervention to save our political standings and financial power. Some of the graphics were hard to read on my phone kindle app but they were definitely helpful for understanding the arguments presented. The cursive font being used for the quotes was a little hard to read. This book was won as part of a goodreads give away.

The unfortunate fact remains that we don't learn from history and therefore keep repeating it. FDR was a force to be reckoned with and this was a turning point in history for 'the greatest generation'. But we are apt to forget that FDR came up with the New Deal because he was at odds with Huey Long and his share the wealth movement.

I have just completed reading this book, and It's truly a masterpiece. The author has done a great job of analysing the current situation in the US economy. He talks about the growth of China as an economic force that tries to control the world and how it affects countries like the USA. I have recommended this book to many of my friends as this problem plagues the world in the past few years. This book is truly an eye-opener.

Eye Opening
This book was easy to understand even for someone who does not usually understand this type of thing. The graphs were interesting and eye opening. I highly recommend it. This is knowledge we all need I hope we can make the changes needed.

I received this book as a Goodreads giveaway. The author, Saji Madapat, has done a good amount of research on data that is presented on his essay. In general, it is a well written recap of the evolution of America´s enterprise model that also points to the issues which must be faced by the US in order to continue being the leading super power. His solution is retooling FDR´s economic policies to the present times.

Simple to understand and powerful in its use of pictures for those readers for whom a picture truly is worth a thousand words, this book has a simple message - the USA needs to rethink its approach to Leadership, digital architecture and the electro-dollar if it wants to succeed in the future. Investment in STEM education and other long-term strategies are specifically emphasized as critical to the future. Excellent book to help the reader get a broader understanding of how we are facing an increasingly contentious future with every aspect of our 'modern' world and thinking but a discarded page from yesterday's news. If we want to survive and thrive in the tectonic shifts that are coming, we must evolve our approaches accordingly!

This book needs to be taught in school! It shows just how America is failing economically and is filled with charts and graphs and good details as well as good quotes sourced from all over. He talks about how China is destabilizing and destroying much of the global economy. He sprinkles in pictures and comments about his home country of India too, which adds to the discussion. He also explains why he chose the title and how it ties in.

There's a ton of data presented in this book. I want to do research to verify much of it. Some I can agree with; most, not without research.
