Juliana Wight is a Scottish-American author of Scottish Romance books. She started writing when she was still a teenager, and after a fateful night with her father, she decided that all she wanted to focus on was narrating stories around the beauty of the Scottish Highlands.
The reviews that she receives praise the development of her characters, the plot twists in her novels, and the beautiful scenery of Scotland.
She lives in Boston, Massachusetts with her husband, Jonathan, and her daughter. Before Juliana started publishing her novels she worked as an HR in a company. While she enjoyed her previous job, it was a dream come true to become an author and she would do anything to achieve that.
I really liked this story. We follow Christina, who was born and raised by her mother in an close community on an island known as the island of women. The legend goes saying that they were practicing witchcraft and all sorts of things. She meets Lyall, who arrives at her island by accident. We then fall into a war for the throne of Scotland by the descendants of Robert the Bruce. This story is full of dark plots, treason and adventure. The development of the relationship between Lyall and Christina first felt like abuse to me, since she had lived such a sheltered life that has left her with a great naivety. Of course, it evolves and Lyall falls in love, but quite abruptly. It would have been nice to know how the people looked like, for a start. No description beside a white beard here and there is made. I would have liked the story to be more elaborate on the feelings between our two lovebirds. The love scenes are vague and confusing. I had to read them back a few times each to he able to get a clear image of what was going on, and still wasn’t: they are dressed, then they are suddenly naked. Christina is on top of Lyall, then lies on her side. Some sentences are clearly missing. There are still many typos and names mixed, which seem to never be corrected in Wight’s stories, thus the three star review.
This story is filled with interesting characters. The Isle was interesting along with the people. We start of with Christina who is a warrior lass who helps rescue a man from the sea and as soon as he is rescued he brings a battle behind him. He is on a secret mission and Christina is bound to help him accomplish his goal. Along the way they discover an attraction that can not be denied. Their journey takes them into many situations with lots of surprises and not all good ones. Their adventure is filled with mystery, romance, battles, passion and more. A stand alone book with 2 people on a quest and how they find their HEA ending.
I enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it to anyone who is interested in Historic History/Romance. It kept me up late so I could read it. We meet our H/H in the first few pages as Christina saves Lyall when his boat breaks up upon the rocks of the Isle of Shadows. Within a short time the Isle comes under attack by the Clan of (Edward) Bruce. This action propels the story, with a couple of twists, through to a HEA .
The start was bit slow getting into this story. But once It got past the island of shadows, the story started to evolve nicely.Lyall and Christina had an adventure and revenge to accomplish to restore peace to there Clans.Which turns out nicely. With the Extended Epilogue a nice finish to this story.Well written story .
He was rescued on their isle, but was he an enemy?
He was washed ashore and they saved him, but they didn’t know if he was an enemy or not. When the island was attacked more questions arose. The Lairdess’ daughter wanted revenge for her friends death and left the island with the man they had saved. Many adventures followed them until it ended in a surprising victory.
Elusive peace and true lairds! Christina and Lyall, neither content with their lot in life; each yearning for something to feel complete. Clan war escalates into their lives. Satisfying tale of honor, greed, cruety and love. Enjoyed seeing all the characters grow and mature. 3 1/2 stars.
What a wonderful love story! The trials that they had to get through before they could hope to find happiness. Once I started reading the story I couldn’t put it down until I finished it.
Well written engaging tale that enticies the reader to turn the next page.
Oftentimes romances are too predictable, this is not. You never know what next might occur, but as you turn the pages. This is a great read for those of us who respect real talent.
