Surviving Phase One was the first step in Gabriel’s journey.
And it came with consequences.
Gabriel is cast out into the wastes by his rival. Deadly desert, merciless raiders, and strange visions stand between him and The Crucible. Quitting isn’t in Gabriel’s character, but death seems to be his destiny.
Hope glimmers from an unlikely source: You can trust a Deadman right?
When the anomalous events around Gabriel prove to be more than the hallucinations of a sun baked mind, his whole world flips. These powers are dangerous, and he isn’t the only one who thinks so.
High casualties lead to a jagged alliance. Tensions rise as dark secrets rise to the surface. Can Gabriel cultivate his new powers or will they consume him.
Locked in a battle for survival, the body count climbs, and Gabriel’s running out of options…
A longtime sci-fi fan, I enjoy reading new authors and delving into the worlds they create. 'Dark Sector' is the second book in the Reclaimer series, taking the reader deeper into the world of The Crucible.
Picking up from book 1, hero Gabriel Rivera finds himself lost in the desert, alone and abandoned. Survival is his first priority. What follows seemed to me at times to be a cross between Mad Max and Stephen King's Dark Tower opus, with exciting desert action sequences that I enjoyed.
Escaping the badlands is only the start of Gabriel's problems. The plot becomes ever more complex, as does telling friend from foe among the large and sometimes confusing cast of characters.
I liked the author's inventive world building and fast-paced action sequences, blending various influences. Sci-fi fans should enjoy this latest work, and look forward to the next installment in the series.
Had to drop it at 50%. This book/series suffers from one of the worst cases of webnovel-itis I've ever experienced. Each book is quite long but almost nothing of substance happens. Over 1000 pages in and each chapter is just a repeat of the previous with a couple details changed. No real character growth, villains still spouting the same exhausting nonsense, MC second guessing himself, and essentially nothing of the "fantasy" element the book seems to claim. The nearly 1500 pages in the first two books dragged over from RR should have been cut down to like 500 pages in one book.
So I said for my review of book 1 that you wanted more explanation of Gabriel’s powers and some background. We got both of those, and even more questions. But we did see some satisfying growth in Gabriel’s abilities. Now I just need him to Home them in the next book or two!
I like the story so far and the unique world. I also like how each book so far keeps the pace interesting. I look forward to the next book and to see how this world unfolds.
This one was a little faster paced than the first book, and the MC made some serious gains. Some surprises at the end as far as some of the supporting cast goes. Looking forward to reading the next one.
I like the series and enjoy the interaction between characters. A dying world and struggle between being growing into a leadership role, and the coming darkness is what makes this series so fun to read.
Little bit of Sci-Fi. Touch of fantasy and a secret paramilitary facility surrounding an impending apocalypse. Enjoyable story and well worth the time to read it.
This series is amazing. Read it to see how each character grows and learn a little more behind the mysterious war... I am immediately diving into book 3
