The Characters of Milestoneville

Rate this book
This action-packed story is the first book in The Characters of Milestoneville book series by Golden November. It's a fast-paced page-turner. The fictional city of Milestoneville is an incredible place to live. There is a lot to do in this city. Milestoneville Beach has cafes overlooking the ocean. The sound of the waves set the mood. Downtown Milestoneville is artsy, with retail stores and great restaurants. Flower Rose owns a used book store; she sells hard-to-find books. JBT and his business partner own a service that specializes in recovering lost valuables and books. They are book hunters. This action-adventure starts when they are hired to track down a lost book that Flower Rose is selling. All Golden November books start with a cold opening and are written in the first-person character dialogue. The best way to read this 5-book series is to get into character. Each book in this series has an original storyline, and it's a rare book you can't put down.

Milestoneville Book Series Reviews

At this point, whenever I see a novel by Golden November, I pick it up without even reading the blurb. Golden November has become one of my all-time favorite authors, and there is a reason for that. His stories are complete, concise, and contagiously fun to read.

Golden November novels are described as a book that reads in the same way a television show or a movie would be with the volume off and the subtitles on, and that's probably the most perfect way to explain how November's books work.

The story of G, JBT, and the gang continues in this comedy-drama that will keep you entertained until the end.Simple, humorous, and incredibly entertaining, every novel by Golden November is fun to read, but this one is extra special. I love how each character gets a story to tell, but it is always G and JBT who tie everything together in the end. While we do have the usual characters in the story, I love how each time Golden November allows a different character to come forward and shine. As always, the dialogues are fantastic,. This unhurried, filtered, fast-paced, and unique way of storytelling is remarkable.

For readers unfamiliar with November's style of writing, it is done in a format similar to a screenplay. The dialogue only narrative to be acted out as opposed to simply being read. Family inviting friends to a music award ceremony kicks off the story. This is not a prestigious ceremony but hilarious nonetheless and readers are given song lyrics to sing along. The best part of November's writing style comes from sarcastic, deadpan humor. This is really brought to life when the story is being acted out and it is really, really hard to keep a straight face when reading

:-What's the crunchy stuff inside the sandwich?

- It's cucumbers, do you like it, Fred?

-His name is Charlie!

The crew zig-zag from one near-catastrophe to the next in good detail and alternating lines are what a reader is working with...but it does work. Golden November hands out another great time to be had by alll. Recommended.

The setting is Milestoneville and the development of Channel 1994. Opening with JBT and G jumping from an airplane. The duo head to Channel 1994’s Award Show. The story then transitions to pre-show interviews by Amy. JT and Pineapple are both rival contestants for the best music award. Then a third transition is to the Award Show where the host seems to have forgotten his manners. He insults Click Clack and his family on stage. Then he turns to the crowd and announces that everyone was the winner of the Worst Music Award. The remainder of the book features a cast of colorful characters and the rise of Channel 1994’s popularity.

Meanwhile, JBT and G are on the hunt for a book that seems to be desired by many. The conversations were like reading the subtitles of a movie in a foreign language. The names of every character didn’t seem to be the focal point that Golden November wished me to follow. At the beginning of the book, I read the introduction that this is a book to act out rather than to read. Once I did, I found it was easy to understand. My favorite moment came from The Host Of Channel 1994’s Award Show. Even though he was fired for making fun of various important people, the jokes were not vulgar, and the audience found them funny. The novel hosts numerous themes ranging from suspense to comedy and drama. I think that the book could be converted on-screen as a soap opera. Anyone who likes to read scripts or desires to be a screenwriter would enjoy this book.

As always, the fast pace and the expressive dialogues were the highlights of the story. I loved to know G, and JBT synch

All of your books are cool. I really loved this one especially the characters. They are so funny and made me laugh out loud. These book hunters are tracking down missing books as they own a company that searches for valuable books that are missing. Get into character and be ready for a fun time. A lot of comedy, drama and action. You won't be bored.

The Characters of Milestoneville Collector’s Edition is an action adventure with plenty of drama, and hilarious comedy. This is a dialogue only novel, similar to watching a television series and read along to the subtitles. It works and it’s a fun and exciting read filled with action and once again: plenty of drama. The book starts with Flower Rose and her brother Dr. Yes, they sell rare valuable books that are missing. JBT and G are book hunters who are hired to track down missing books. They will go to any lengths to find a book, including flying paramotors, rappelling, and action type of stuff that is only seen in the movies. I have read the entire series; there are nuggets all throughout the series.

The characters in Golden November books are the most well-developed I’ve read. There are many-many characters in this book series, each has their own personality and uniqueness. This story spins, twists, and goes in many unpredictable directions. Milestoneville is the town where the intense drama take place. The author gives you a deep look into the characters in away that it’s up to the reader to figure it out. Again, it’s a dialogue only book, with movie-like-watching photographs that change the scene. There are multiple plots and subplots. Each takes a path the reader will never be able to figure out, it’s a roller coaster ride of reading. The comedy is very dry and once you get the hang of how this book works… the comedic timing catches you off guard and there is no stopping you from uncontrollable laughing out loud. I highly recommend this book and the series. There is no doubt you will feel like you are binge watching a series on TV.

A fun and exciting rainy afternoon adventure getting into character as I read this book out loud to a captive audience of man and cat. I like how the photos together with the text help tell the story. An action-packed, humorous, adventurous page-turner I couldn't seem to put down.

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway.

Having never seen this style of writing before, I was surprised at the format. It is annoying. Just a few words of dialogue on each page, along with action pictures. Some authors overwhelm with too much description of scenes, but this one has chosen to have no descriptions. It was an exercise in flipping pages with very little content. Not for me.

I found this book on a book review recommendation blog. I read the first four books in the series after reading this one. It's an exciting non-stop adventure. The characters are memorable and fascinating. I laughed out loud many times. I highly recommend this book. I enjoyed the series.

I received this Kindle ebook from Goodread Giveaways.

This type of writing style is difficult for me to follow, which made the plot even more difficult to follow. I couldn’t finish it. I most likely would have liked the book if the format was different.

Horrible!

I won this from Goodreads giveaway, and frankly this has to be tied with a book I won years ago for worst book I've ever attempted to read. The format was horrible and the characters infantile. Obviously, I cannot recommend this book.
