amal abdul-hussein reveals her second poetry collection, origin. origin includes not only more poems than her debut collection, but longer ones. inspired by the origin of time and the beginning of life itself, this collection gives you reminders of the worth of our existence, encouraging the strength to rise, conversations with her past self, the love we forget to give to each other and important words left unsaid between parents and their children.
Amal Abdul-Hussein is an author who grew up in the capital of Canada, Ottawa, ON. After exploring children’s literature, she entered the world of poetry and decided it was time to make use of the words that her heart was begging to say. Her main purpose will always be to impact children, but to also impact all humans in general as they affect the little ones that are still growing. If we heal, they heal. Any heart out there who doesn’t feel like they can reach out for help, she is asking that you try. Things will get better, they always do and if she is part of that journey, her dream has come true.
I love this book. It has some really, really good poems. The section on love is amazing, and there were some poems in here that I have already committed to memory from reading them over and over.
While I like the way the author writes, it’s just not my personal favorite. The lack of punctuation makes it hard to read fluidly and it feels choppy at times. It isn’t that it isn’t well done, it’s just a stylistic choice that isn’t my favorite, but it was still really good.
