About the author

As the oldest son of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, King Charles III is the king of the United Kingdom. He ascended to the throne after the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II on September 8, 2022. He is the oldest person ever to assume the British throne.

Under public scrutiny his entire life, Charles graduated from Trinity College before embarking on a military career which culminated with him commanding the HMS Bronington. He married Diana Spencer in the summer of 1981 to huge media fanfare, though the couple would eventually divorce in 1996 after years of gossip and scandal. Charles later wed longtime love, Camilla Parker Bowles, some time after Princess Diana's death. He is the father of Princes William and Harry and is also a grandfather. Among his many philanthropic and environmental endeavors are the Prince’s Trust and the Prince’s Rainforest Project.

A succinct but well rounded timeline of Prince Philip's life. The narrative reads quickly, but the real star here is all the wonderful photographs.

Een boek dat stilstaat bij het bijzondere leven van prins Philip, die 99 jaar oud werd en in 2021 overleed. Prins Philip, de hertog van Edinburgh, was de langstzittende prins-gemalin van Groot-Brittannië.

Het boek, dat gebruikmaakt van zowel privéarchieven als officiële documenten, belicht de belangrijkste gebeurtenissen in het leven van prins Philip, van zijn geboorte op Corfu, zijn opleiding en dienst bij de marine en in oorlogstijd, tot zijn huwelijk met koningin Elizabeth, zijn steun aan de koningin in binnen- en buitenland, zijn interesses en zijn beschermheerschap van meer dan 750 organisaties.

Met meer dan 150 foto's van Prins Philip biedt dit persoonlijke, maar gezaghebbende boek een frisse kijk op een leven vol verplichtingen. De tentoonstelling, gehouden in Windsor Castle en het Palace of Holyroodhouse, toonde meer dan 150 objecten, waaronder persoonlijke foto's, huwelijksherinneringen en zijn kunstwerken, ter gelegenheid van zijn 100e verjaardag, die hij op twee maanden na net niet haalde...

Het zal geen verrassing zijn dat het boek volledig in het Engels is. De hoofdstukken zijn niet al te lang en de teksten laten zich vlot lezen. Een boek dat met goedkeuring van het Britse koningshuis tot stand is gekomen. Het is namelijk uitgebracht door Royal Collection Trust.

"Prince Philip: A Celebration" is zeker een aanrader; het geeft op een beknopte manier zijn leven etc. op een liefdevolle manier weer. Zeker een aanrader.

So happy when this arrived from England. A lot of the photos have been released previously. But to have them all in one location. AWESOME!!!! I enjoyed the information within the covers. Prince Phillip will be missed, but with books like this one he will not be forgotten
