Good intro, great climax... Where is the rest of the story?
The beginning of the book was great. It was a little poetic and flowery for my tastes at certain times. The author was trying to explain thoughts, feelings, and actions without actually saying what they were, so the reader had to take a guess on what the author was trying to get across. However, I still was quickly becoming invested in Lexi and was excited to learn more about the guys and the friends she was starting to make........ Then, I was reading the climax of the book and wondering what the hell happened to the middle of the story.
There were very few interactions between characters that weren't just summarized, and the interactions we did get to read were very short. I assumed this was to introduce us to Lexi's world before the actual plot. It was a good intro, so it was a shock to suddenly be reading the climax. None of the characters are really fleshed out. We have no insight into any of the friends Lexi makes, nor the three men that must be her mates. We have just enough info for the guys to pique our interest. Yet the FMC is calling them "her guys," using them as her motivation and thinking they might be able to save her during the climax of the book. I wouldn't even call it insta-love because, in those cases, the reader still gets to know the characters, even if it happens after the love part. What is really frustrating is that the climax was good. The intro was good. The book was just completely missing any other part of the story.
I really wanted to like this book, but unfortunately, I think it was not for me. The overall story of this book was interesting enough that I wanted to finish, and I hoped that by the end I would be invested enough to want to continue onto the next books, however, with the complete lack of realistic character and relationship development, or really any character and relationship development this book just kind of fell flat for me. The best part of the book was at the end when she was (spoiler) fighting for her life, but I was violently dragged out of the story when her reasons for fighting were not, you know, her life, but "her guys" barf. Listen, I love romance, I inhale books in this genre, and I love me some sickly sweet lovins, but at this point in the story, they were not "her guys" and having them be her only reason to keep fighting was just... gross. I wish this author all the best, and maybe the books get better as the series goes on, but I think I will end my journey here.
I'm not sure about this story. Normally I love shifter and fated mates stories but this time I just didn't feel connected to any of the characters.
The FMC, Lexi, comes from a crazy and abusive past that is extremely cult-like. Her upbringing is not explained during book 1 so if you're curious about it you need to continue to book 2.
Her meeting of her guys is kind of typical. They all feel a pull to her and are confused at the fact that she's connected with 3 potential mates. There are scenes where it's described that they spend the day together laughing and talking but there isn't really much relationship development that we get to see. Like I just don't feel the love there.
Also most of book 1 is inner monologue and very little dialogue adding to the disjointed feeling of the story. I'm not sure I will continue.
It was alright, I don't think I liked it all that much because of the single POV. I think I've been spoiled in that department because I was waiting to get into the minds of the other mates and that just didn't happen. As of right now shes only fucked one of the three mates and is just now coming to terms with everything after finally killing another link to her tragic dark past.

I started reading this book and realized I already read it. So if you read Summer Semester: Omega Wolf Academy you already read this book then.
This book was really good, granted there were a few spots that I felt did not flow good, but you still new what scene it jumped to after skipping. We have Alexis who is finally free to live her life. We have Chase, Lucian, and Dimitri. They have past too. In this first book we are following Alexis feelings and her life. All four are trying to figure out their feelings for each other. Can Alexis get past her past? Will her past come up to bite her? What will the guys do to be with her, but not share?

I really enjoyed this book. Lexi has a past that still haunts her. Lexi is trying to start over and Chase, Dimitri & Lucian will no doubt help her out. This is my first read by J.J and it won’t be the last. Great story that had me hooked and intrigued from page 1.
It couldn't hold my attention, and it was so fast paced, it almost didn't make sense. The end was smooshed together and ended so abruptly, it feels like I wasted reading time. Lexi was just running away most of the time, none of the relationships had any depth to them, the characters didn't grow anywhere, the background of the characters were half-hearted and were obviously made up on a whim and not thought out. I feel nothing for any of the characters, to be straight forward, and Randall was a wild card that made zero sense. I'm going to skip the rest of the series.
Wolf Mated is the first book in the Beta Wolf Academy series by JJ King. This paranormal reverse harem follows Alexis "Lexi" as she adjusts to her new life at Beta Academy. A life where she leaves her past behind, learns new things, makes new friends, and has all the boy drama she can handle, it was a fairly good read.
The first and only book that I've read by King was New Moon, the first book in the Alpha Wolf Academy series. From what I can tell King has three series all set in the same world and while the series follows different characters it seems like they are all connected with the Beta Wolf series being third. I didn't know this when I started this book, I read New Moon recently and liked it, I planned on reading the second book, then King's reverse harem (which is my fav) caught my eye and I delved into this series instead of continuing the other right away. I will eventually get back to it after I finish this series.
While reading I could tell some major stuff happened before, in the previous books, but I got the gist of things so my not reading the previous books didn't hinder as much but it certainly would have helped.
King certain has a unique story with Wolf shifters. Lexi is a wolf shifter who has been through a lot, she grew up in an abusive cult with a crazy wolf shifter at the helm. But she's overcome all of that, she still had issues (who wouldn't) but she is working on them with treatment and therapy. It's hard but Lexi is tough in ways people don't realize, she's coming out of her shell, trying new things, and is determined to live her life.
Lucian, Chase, and Dimitri are the guys in Lexi's life, each is different but brings something special into Lexi's life. I only got a base sense of them, there weren't that many scenes with them and everything was filtered through Lexi's anxiety and confusion. I wished that the guys had chapters from their perspectives or at least had a few more scenes where they said more than just a few sentences.
I did have a few issues, some information wasn't explained and I thought it should have been and then there is my confusion over who is actually related by blood and how, it wasn't clear but seems semi-important. The overall story was good. It blended the paranormal with a storyline I would see from other books such as the cult storyline, the reverse harem aspect was light and I expect the bond to grow in the next book. The best part was the focus on Lexi and her emotional and mental health issues, it good for those to be represented and shown in a way that isn't negative and King did a good job of it.
I enjoyed Wolf Mated, it's just the start to Lexi's story and I am looking forward to seeing her grow more and bond with the guys in Wolf Chosen the next book in the Beta Wolf Academy series.
Alexis (“Lexi”) woke trembling and sweating, immediately repeating in her mind that it’s not real, Raphael is dead, it’s only a nightmare – until her pulse slowed and she calmed a little bit. This week was going to be better. She would talk to new people. She would let go of her horrible past and begin her new life as a freshman a Beta Wolf Academy. Her philosophy professor asked what she thought of the reading, and she was doing a good job of summarizing true evil as Friedrich Nietzsche saw it. What she did say is that she had known true evil her entire life, seen its darkness, and felt its punishment. She pushed the darkness down inside as he went on to the next person in class. Only the shadowy figures who embraced her, defended her, loved her, made the nightmares go away. But they were just a nice fantasy. And suddenly the hour was over and she had missed it all.
A crowd pushed her along into an elevator and she began to hyperventilate as the doors closed and trapped her inside. Then a deep voice, warm firm hands, gently loosened her fingers and helped her out of the elevator. He led her to a bench and she grabbed his hand before he could leave her. As the panic receded, she heard him telling her to just breathe. He told her his name was Lucian. And he understood panic attacks and how to deal with them. His phone began to ring and he said he had to go.
Lexi will gather the guys she needs, three of them, who each can help her in a special way. They don’t know what is connecting them, but they are there for her as they make her feel safe. Will they be ready for what is to come?
✳️✳️ONE SENSATIONAL THRILL RIDE✳️✳️ Wonky wolves wiley! King outdoes herself once more unleashing one helluva tumultuous storm, delivering this sinfully tantalizing, skillfully compelling incredibly titillating, delightfully delectable, boot-stomping badassery, rock-my-world rollercoaster, skyrocketing this hot little number to staggering heights. Chicanery and havoc run rampant, releasing all the spills, thrills and swirling feels, bursting those churning emotions into play front and center, while intensifying the riveting drama, gripping intrigue, underlying threats, escalating danger, spiraling suspense and unnerving situations ensue, observing the daunting struggles and formidable triumphs merge, cognizant of the perilous twists and wicked turns unfolding, wrapping this gem up sleek, shiny and tight. Entwined, combined and crisply coiled, exposing the soaring ups and agonizing downs breathtaking in it's simplicity and beautiful in it's depth, secrets confessed, revelations disclosed and promises pledged, propelling this baby to life flawlessly. The characters are complex, genuine and realistic with traits and qualities that balance and blend, with amazing depth and diversity with enough spice to add an extra kick to the mix. The scenes are abundantly descriptive with colorful details that blend and flow, creating a majestic backdrop that's so rich and lively it feels as though you're part of the story instead of on the sidelines, feeling everything the characters feel. Fabulous job King, thanks for sharing this awesome little gem with us.
I'm not sure where I want to start. There are so many good things about about JJ King's "Wolf Mated." The characters interested me from the start, particularly Lexi, the mc. She is genuine in the way that normal people are: she's has plans and goals, and "wow, he's delicious looking!" (not a direct quote). What I mean is so many books portray their mc with one solid mindset and few deviations, but that's impossible to maintain with normal everyday distractions. I was glad to see that Lexi got distracted and still pressed on with her goals. Many times her emotions come off very real, as I can say I cringed with her in certain situations, and my heartbeat picked up several times along the way as well. The other characters are very distinctive and don't necessarily fall into common tropes for this genre. I found I wanted to know the major character's back stories as I was reading along. I also found that I had moments when I realized I was bouncing my knee in anticipation of the next scene. To me that's a good book if it can elicit such a visceral response.
My rating is really 4.5; I took away a half star because the end felt rushed, like there was a page limit not to be exceeded. It didn't follow the same as the rest of the book for me. But I really like the book overall, and am eagerly anticipating book two.

I tried really hard to like this book. I wanted to like this book, except the author made that extremely hard to accomplish. I really didn't want to DNF and write a bad review...but here we are.
I just want to say...
WHY IS THERE NO WORLD BUILDING??!!
For the majority of the book I was terribly confused about many things. We honestly have no insight into this world at all. Are there designations? I thought so, but maybe not? Is FMC an omega, or do all female wolves have a heat? It sounds like it's more of a social hierarchy than a designation hierarchy, but I'm not entirely sure. Why did they need to pull strings for FMC to be admitted into Beta Wolf Academy? Who are the 'old ones,' and does everyone keep referencing them but not explaining? We are literally told nothing about this world. It's frustrating. I'm frustrated to the point of anger.
WHY IS THERE NO CHARACTER DEVELOPMET??!!
None at all. Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch. There is no relationship development either.
DNF 65%
Single, first-person POV Reverse Harem Academy Shifters Fated mates Prophecy Virgin FMC Slow burn No heat Hx trauma, torture, neglect, abuse, starvation, etc.
Unfortunately I just could not get into this. The MFC felt like she kept being written as though she was different characters with completely different personality traits and strengths to serve whatever situation she was in rather than being one cohesive character, even one that could tap into different strengths as she needed to. The male romantic interests were all pretty flat. They were essentially just each given one trait (compassionate, tough, or outgoing) and that they were instantly in love with her. It seems like the author tried to delve into teaching the reader about the mate Bond but kept just saying oh I did research and this is normal well is it because everything else is saying that it's not. The history of the FMC being locked away could have been interesting except that we only got tiny little glimpses of it. Finding out that it was related to a prophecy was the only reason I kept reading hoping that we would get something more there. Obviously the FMC is going to be that prophecy child, but even a hint of what the prophecy was would have added more interest to the story.
While I was reading this book, I was expecting to be read from all the main cast points of view. In this book, we only get to read from one character's point of view; Lexi's. While it might not have been the intention, I think almost anyone who has ever gone to university could relate with Lexi. Going to a new school is getting a new start. Majority of the time, you can transfer in and no one will know about you (unless it's a private school). Lexi got just that and more drama than what she was equipped to handle. I don't think King had expected a reader to read this book and reflect on their life but I certainly did. It was fun read and I like the idea behind it. I even did a whole blog post for the book. So check that out if you want to read my full thoughts. I look forward to seeing what else King has in store for Lexi in the upcoming books.

This book was pretty good! I flew through it, and managed to read it in a single day. I will say that Lexi’s relationship with Dimitri bothers me a little bit, like she literally hit him! And for what reason?
I knew that the ending was going to happen, but imagine my surprise when I find out that this book is a five book series!! That is absolutely INSANE!
Now I will be downloading the next book, but will I be reading it? That has yet to be decided.
*EDIT*
Okay so I was wrong… I had downloaded this book during the stuff your kindle days, and the rest of the series is not available on KU, so I will actually not be reading the next book.
I guess the good thing is that this book had a sort of happy ending, so that’s good!
I'm not sure how, but I gobbled this up! It was an interesting plot with characters that had the potential to grow.
The FMC suffers trauma, and the MMC/s have their own secrets and issues. The reverse harem doesn't occur straight away. However, you see it developing from the start. The attraction to each MMC is apparent, and even though they fight it, they each have a special bond with her.
The character development of the FMC is a bit quick but still nice to read. The last 20% had me on the edge.
I enjoyed book 1 and think I will download the next book to continue with the story.
Lexi’s adventure at Omega Wolf Academy starts off a bit confusing for the reader if they haven’t read The Guardians series. A majority of the story was establishing Lexi and the guys as well as their dynamic so growing into the relationship to be a solid family group is something I hope to see in future installments. As always the trauma was well handled like all of her books. Can wait to see their journey and how the events from the connected series impact this one.

This is the first book I have read by King, and I think this is a spin-off on another series or story. Alexis is at Beta Wolf Academy after being experimented on and basically tortured for her life. Now that she is free, she is trying to figure out life and social interactions. She is fierce, but also awkward :) I really liked her, and I liked the guys too. They are all a little broken like Alexis. I do wish they had talked things through with each other (including Alexis) more, but I was hooked on Alexis’ story and am off to download book 2 now :)
After being bred and held in captivity, Lexi is finally freed and attending Beta Wolf University. Her life has been filled with cruelty and abuse from the megalomania Raphael. There was a undefined prophecy that would make him a virtual god. First he had to create a specific female. He had yet to lab create her. The females he had created were worthless to him. So they were fodder for abuse. Katherine LaFlamme had discovered his plan and killed Raphael. She freed the women. They were all trying to build lives without abuse. Lexi met strong, kind men at the University.
When I started this series I would never have thought of the secrets that Lexi held so deep within herself. I knew I would’ve broken a long time ago and never been fixed but she’s strong in mind and spirit. She had to, to survive. She attends goes Beta Wolf Acedemy where in odd moments, she meets Dimitri,Chase and Lucian. Three best friends and she feels the same for each one. This is a tale of laughter, fear, shadows, past healing of the present, darker shadows rising up before lightness can….you need to read this book!
A quick, easy fantasy read with wolf shifters living in our world and going to school at an academy in some indeterminate location. A girl held captive her whole childhood is learning to adjust and branch out from the traumas she’s gone through in her new start at Beta Wolf Academy. While there, she finds a startlingly intense connection with not one but three male wolves…who just so happen to be best friends.
While it felt a bit rushed, making me wish a few scenes or interactions had been fleshed out more, it’s definitely an intriguing start to the series.
That was quite a story. Lexi is broken, but she is strong as well. She fight. Even if she grow up in very complicated settings, and was already through the hell and back, she now face different world and different troubles. She learn quickly, she is studious and takes everything with head up. For her fated mates it’s not easy either, they have lots of things to understand, but they are there for her when she needs them tye most. Very promising beginning.
I loved the beginning. It was great but around the 20th chapter is where I felt it was missing some chapters because all a sudden she's hanging out with the boys like they'd talked and then she's being kidnapped.
Just need a little bit more build up around the middle of the book.
Great story. Love the storyline, just needs a little bit more.
Wolf Mated, the first book of the Beta Wolf Academy series, is an ebook I downloaded from Kindle Unlimited.
Note, this appears to be a rebranding of the book Summer Semester: Omega Wolf Academy. If the story seems familiar, you may have read the prior release.
From the start, this author took me on a high energy, fast-paced thrill ride. Solid characters and a good, often surprising story line. Gotta get book two right away...
This theme of multiple fated mates seems to be gaining in popularity. Once you accept the idea of a mating bond in wolf shifters, it is no surprise that wolf society is conservative. Still a soul deep connection with more than one seems within the normal range of outcomes. Alexis has survived a very damaging start to her life and deserves all the love and soul connection this story implies. Where things go from here should be interesting.
Not bad. I think there are a few holes missing details. I would like to see Alexis' memories not just the black emptiness when she has a panic attack. Also she is not really spending a lot of time with her mates to call them that plus she runs away before she even knows how they really feel about her. She needs to give them a chance plus she kind of dense about everything thing. I like the plot and characters but there are a lot of flaws.

I was a little skeptical going into this read as I haven’t read much “why choose” up to this point, but I really enjoyed this read.
I feel like the characters are set up for some really great story lines and character development.
I just feel like there could have been more brought into the storylines and character interactions, maybe it just needed to be a little longer to be more in depth? I am going to continue this series!
The story just didn’t flow - everything felt really surface level and the whole book is basically a monologue by the FMC. I usually love a shifter/fated mates/abused FMC kinda vibe but I just couldn’t vibe with the characters, and Lexi just came across as kinda dull, there’s five whole books in this series and I just have too many books on my tbr to waste time reading books that might get better later.
Got this on the off chance that it would be good or decent. I was fully blown away. This book is epic!! Seeing how Lexi finds 3 totally different guys that call to different parts of her for different reasons, yet still they make her feel 100%safe is amazing. Ready to see if she tells the guys her story. And to see of Dimitri tells what is his darkness! Book 2 can only get better!!!
This book was an alpha amongst this genre! I loved Lexi and the boys. There was so much drama and angst throughout the story, the push and pull of attraction, and the crazy secrets that unravelled, the real feelings from page to page. I loved it from start to finish, couldnt put it down, and now I cant get my hands on book 2 soon enough!
