I knew that I would be diving into something prodigious, but as I got through the first page I knew that I was in for more than I could have even imagined. Liam, with this book, peeled his skin back for the world to see. The way his words fluidly weaved through my skin had me feeling emotions I wasn't sure I was able to tap into anymore. There are very few authors that can evoke inspiration, tears, laughter and sorrow all within one session of reading, but Liam captured the essence of all that is good with poetry and prose with this collection. I attempted to put together specific pieces to highlight but as I wrote one down, I felt I was taking the light off all the next to come. After putting this book down, I had hope, I could finally look forward again. Liam is singlehandedly resuscitating a once dying craft. I want to say well done, but I also want to say thank you. This was a journey from start to finish. I am in awe, as always.
This book of poetry and prose is absolutely phenomenal. It’s so beautiful, I sobbed when I finished it. It is profound, heart wrenching, and deeply relatable. It perfectly incapsulates the complexities of the human experience. Liam is an incredible writer and a master of his craft. It’s one of the best books of poetry I’ve read in a very long time and I know it will be one I will turn to again and again. I cannot recommend this book enough!!
vulnerable. healing. heavy. this book of poetry and prose is profound and insightful in its purest form. such powerful and vulnerable feelings of deep loss and brilliant love show the audience that pain can be productive and that life is still here as it was for us to continue boldly getting through. the construction of the prose and the delicate placement of poetry tie this book together with hope and despair that will forever keep me coming back for more.
Liam Lalor's choice of diction has always astounded me in the most enjoyable ways. a distant sun showcases his incredible ability to form an entire world in each piece of poetry and prose, a poignant reminder of 'the threat of the imagination'. Every single word is meticulously chosen to fit its specific place, a 'foray' into Lalor's own mind and the intricate emphasis on his innermost thoughts. I took my time with this collection, ending each reading session knowing that I was filled with the words, thoughts, emotions, and feelings I had unknowingly needed to experience.
