"Before I'd even stepped into the interview room I'd already resigned myself to the fact that there was no limit to what I was going to do to get that job. If it meant getting naked there and then in a room full of strangers, so be it. I was determined. The humiliation that would potentially await paled in comparison to the sweet reward of working in one of the world's largest party resorts. The shame that I would feel was going to be insignificant to the endless supply of drinks and girls that would await me in Ibiza at the end of the 90s." Want a disarmingly frank and honest account of what it was like working for one of the largest adult tour operators in the Mediterranean? What was considered naughty in the nineties would be scandalous today. But without smartphones, selfies, social media and tagging, there's no evidence of what went on and, now everyone has grown up and moved on, no one left to confirm it was true. More than twenty years have passed since my first season as a holiday rep in Ibiza, but the outrageous incidents and accidents are as fresh as last week. If you can remember being on one on these holidays, wouldn't you like to know what was going on behind the scenes? Let me pull back the curtain and start at the beginning...
Luke Atwood is the author of the "Ibiza" books, a series detailing his repping adventures and exploits while living in Ibiza during the 90s.
He was born and raised in the UK before moving and partying his way round the world. He credits being a holiday rep with changing his life and making him who he is today. Given the ridiculous situations he's been in, he still can't believe he's survived this long and tries to treat every day as if it's his last.
Never one to turn down a drink, or a joke at some inappropriate moment, he longs for World peace, the return of Woolworths, and for Wetherspoons to go 24 hour.
I really liked this book it rings true with some holidays we've all been on and how times have changed over the years. Nothing ever stays the same but we learn
This was a really fascinating and eye opening read.
I went to San Antonio in my late 20's and a lot of what Luke describes definitely happens. I wanted to dislike the author as some of these Club Reps take advantage of people. However he was actually a really genuine guy who did all he could to help his guests. it was not all about booze and sex but certain parts of the book showed deep down he had a heart of gold.
If you want to relive your younger days on a Lads/Lasses under 30s holiday, then this is essential reading particularly if you visited San Antonio is Ibiza.
Must read for any past rep, the memories just come flooding back back! You can taste the vodka red bull and the tiredness you actually feel reading about guiding the back up for duties
A truly excellent book. As a Mallorca rep in 97 for six happy years I can relate to this so very much. Bloody brilliant reading. I couldn't put it down.
If you ever went to a party island in the late 90s or early 00s, this book will resonate. I ripped through it quicker than the author does with a Doris!
A good quick read, for those that went to Ibiza in the nineties it's a good memoir and true to life, a bit hard to get into, but overall an enjoyable read
Loved this book about repping Ibiza in the 90s. Like tells a lot of stories with detail that I could imagine everything playing out, and I liked it a lot.
