This is the second in a series of mystery novels featuring the characters Anne Scriptor and Trinidad Sands. The couple form a working partnership which leads to romance and a proposal. The two need to organize a wedding, but the murder of a famous horror novelist interrupts their plans. Hired to investigate the alibis of the victim's eccentric family, the two detectives uncover a cavalcade of lies and secrets.
D.P. Benjamin is an award-winning novelist. A veteran, he served as a military journalist with the U.S. Army. His genres are mystery, fantasy, alternative history, and true history.
This is the first that I have read in this series and truly enjoyed it. The victim in this mystery is not the sort who would generate tears. What a horrible human being with a long list who would love to commit his murder. I recommend enthusiastically to any mystery fan.
I received a copy through the Goodreads giveaway program.
This was an entertaining mystery with a tightly written plot. There were several 'red herrings' and some less than admirable characters. If you know anything about the topography of Colorado, it will add even more to your enjoyment of the book.
Small town detectives with great reasoning abilities. A sheriff that was extremely helpful. A man with too much money. And relatives with too little money. Throw in some evil deeds that go back decades and you have a great place to start.
I won this book (Kindle Edition) in a GoodReads Giveaway. The major problem is that I am unable to download the book to a Kindle! If you go to the Amazon store, all the options to download to a Kindle devise is unavailable.
I am able to download it to the Kindle app, but the text is too small and there is no option to to change the font size. According to the Amazon page, the enhanced typesetting has been disabled.
Therefore, I won't be able to read and review this book.
The author/publisher should really look into why the Kindle version of the book is set up not to download to a Kindle, and why the enhanced typesetting allowing for the font to change size has been disabled for the Kindle app.
Of course if someone lets me know that this is sorted out, I will happily read the book.
The book that wouldn’t end. It was really confusing as the author tried to add too many twists and turns, and had many characters/locations. Normally, books are concluded in the last few chapters. This book was concluded, then had many chapters following the conclusion. It was clearly written by a male (too many sex scenes that didn’t fit in the story), but they tried to write things to make the book appealing to females. It failed.
A Lavender Wedding is an easy read and fun. You don't have to read the first book but I bet it is fun too. I also like reading that the author, Donald Paul Benjamin, helps authors design book covers and format interior book pages for self-publication!
who is the killer? The Sands detectives take on the awesome case.
This story has so many twists that you can’t believe are told out loud. Rejection, incest, money, and weird family. Fantasy is so well told you can’t stop reading. The twisting saga is all encompassing.
Crime investigation / love story. Lots of twists in the story. Would have liked more details and back story more of the characters. Felt I knew trinida and Anne very well. Likable characters
Thank you for my Goodreads win. I was able to score a Kindle copy of this book. There were quite a few things that knocked my rating down from my more traditional four star to a two star review. The first and foremost was the mystery itself. There were too many holes in it. Without giving too much away, they never did explain away the baby in the cafe, the missing mother, or how one person could be in so many places at the same time. Then there were the highly questionable sexual overtones. I couldn't figure out how an octogenarian could have such young children. Wouldn't they more likely to have been his grandchildren, or even great-grandchildren? And why didn't any of the multiple staff members ever say anything about any of the misdeeds? Way too many holes. Thank you for the book, but I don't think I'll be following this series anymore.
