This type of book is a non-fiction book, and it had all kinds of new information that I did not know about fly fishing.like there are different ways to fly fish, how to tie flys, tie your leaders, different types of flys , etc. John Merwin done a really good job on this book I belive. It didn't only tell me how to fly fish better but it taught me some really good flys to use and were to find the fish better without spooking them off. The books weakness, I didn't really see any weaknesses about but it had a lot of strength through out the book with all the different types of things it talked about fly fishing. My favorite quote from the book , I esteem the bass and am always heart-stricken by the blasphemy against them so often expressed by rabid trout fishermen.- Ray bergman (1942). I would really recommend this book to other people that like to fly fish or the wanna learn how to start fly fishing. It talks so much about how to cast, flys to use, where to fish at, etc. Its helped me learn more about the sport then I knew about, and can't wait to test out the new things I learned.

I am not a fly fisherman. I've tried to learn the art of flycasting twice, but unfortunately, I am neither patient nor coordinated enough to wield the fly rod with any skill.

I do use spinning equipment, and I occasionally will tie a dry or wet fly to my line along with a live bait presentation or a jig.

This book is an amazing guide for a few reasons. Firstly, it excellently details knots, flies, equipment, and fish in vivid color. This is important because most other fishing books will only have grainy poor quality black and white photos, and figuring out the difference between different lures and flies is difficult to the untrained eye without the aid of color. Secondly, as a trailside guide, the instructions are clear and to the point.

I think this book would make an excellent addition to any fisherman's library.

This is a really good book for beginners into fly fishing. The authors cover everything from the basic gear you need, the knots your need to know, casting techniques, and how to read a body of water.
