That's the first thing you need to understand.

The second is If you're reading this, it's already too late. The damage is done. The Cleaners will be on their way.

I'd say I'm sorry about all of this. I am sorry about all of this. But that hardly matters anymore. Hell, I'm not sure anything does. But there is one last thing you should know.

If you want to survive, you're gonna need to come with me.

This was a powerhouse of a novella! Strong narration by a highly likable narrator, sucked me into the story quickly, and the dark, cyberpunk-esque setting made for a really cool background to the personal trauma/change the MC goes through. Lots of emotions are packed into such a short story.

If done right, this could make a really good episode of Black Mirror or Love, Death, and Robots. The last line few lines of this novella are *chef's kiss* so good! Loved this!

"Our thoughts do not belong to us..."

This novella takes place in the future of New New York but as I was reading it I couldn't help but think of our own world right now. How much of our own thoughts are actually our own or the making of the world around us. This is a really scary thought and will actually get you to think.

I had the pleasure of receiving a ARC and it was a great food for thought short story.

"Our thoughts do not belong to us..."

Beware because after reading this sentence THEY might come for you...

-------------

A complicated and confusing novelette to read.

I think I understood the story a little at 90% of my reading !

The story takes place in the future, in New New York.
After terrible events, digital "something" has survived and takes control of our thoughts.

But did the main character CIRI really experience this ?
Or is it a decoy ?

Are these his thoughts or theirs ?

A confused but unique and original reading.
The end is excellent.

This was such a good little novella, it kept me on the edge of my seat.

It's super quick and easy to read and it definitely captures your entire attention till you finish it. I absolutely loved it.

It's also very good in case you're in a bit of slump and need a change of pace. A palate cleanser if you will.

This was a short story set in a future not too distant of a man's attempt to cope with some unsettling realizations in his life. The story gave me that vague discomfort that one gets when confronted with a glimpse into a plausible though unpleasant future.

Liked story, it was good but not great.

Its premise is in the realm of possibility, but kind of a downer. I will read other stories by Luke and rate the merits of each one separately.
