DNF @55%

The writing and the character building were seriously lacking. I felt like reading a wattpad-quality book. There were a few interesting plot elements hence the second star.

I have thought whole week how do I rate this book. On one hand, this book was truly captivating and I couldn’t put it down, at all.

On the other hand, this was sloppy- my biggest issue was plot holes and inconsistencies, especially with H. Okay with h also ( will come to that later).

He was supposed to be the head of a biggest pack in this region , but he was not handling it at all. Also, there were few side characters, but nothing of the pack dynamics and pack drama. I felt things what were all happening were too many crammed into one book.

What truly bothered me was when h got pregnant she wanted to terminate the pregnancy. She acted as it was all H fault and was angry when he said no and locked her up. Girl, you could have said no condom, no sex. But no, you went into it knowingly this might happen. I was so freaking fuming towards h immature behaviour, especially in shifter world it is a blessing and pups are adored. It is an imaginary world and in contemporary romance- fine do whatever but shifter world this is not okay at all as they believed in moon goddess and her blessings and angering her. So, h behaviour didn’t make sense at all.

In the end, this book was truly good, action was fast paced and I couldn’t put the book down. How h was this scared little girl but at the same time so strong for her sister. It hurt my heart how they lived both in extreme fear day by day.

Action was so freaking awesome, my hands were sweating rivers and I speed turned pages to know what will happen. This was very different shifter book, but at the same time it had all the best tropes in the world- fated mates, abused h, h turns badass, only drinking H blood, virgin h, surprise pregnancy, dominant bulldozer H.

Relationship development was also well written and I loved the hell out of H.

🔶 h is virgin
🔶 h is hybrid ( half vampire/half wolf)
🔶 h needs to drink blood
🔶 fated mates
🔶 smutty and hot smex
🔶 no ow drama
🔶 no om drama
🔶 triggers: a lot of violence, death of side characters, kidnapping of children and their rough treatment, domestic violence ( on page, pretty hard)
🔶 surprise pregnancy
🔶 HEA for the couple with Epilogue 12y later

This book was so bad, I wish I could give it zero stars. The beginning was OK, but after about Chapter 7 (in the paperback version), it completely fell apart.

The female main character, Aria, went from one abusive relationship with her stepfather to another abusive relationship with her mate, Reid.

When he finds out what Aria is, Reid destroys his office and wants to kill her. When she doesn't act the way he wants, Reid uses the mating mark to put her to sleep. He refuses to be present when she is formally introduced as his mate, leaving her to the ridicule of the pack.

Some descriptions of how Reid touches Aria, his mate: he had her wrists in a bone-crushing grip, grips her arm, rips her toward him, makes her stumble, shoves her, drags her, has her wrist in a death grip, barrels into her knocking the air out of her, she knew his threats weren't empty but promises (he said he would kill everyone she loves). Yet, after many of these incidents, they can feel how much they love each other through the mate bond. Also, Reid does not see her or treat her like an equal; he does not listen to her when she tries to tell him her feelings and concerns, instead just making decisions for her. So, Aria doesn't share her ideas with Reid, just acts. Reid gets angry and the cycle starts again.

The story is all over the place, inconsistent, and completely unrealistic. Aria is powerful, then she isn't. Reid has the strongest, largest pack in the city, but has not done his research about the office building he owns, has no idea what goes on his city, has no information about the humans in his city. This is all information that is needed to keep his pack safe, yet he doesn't know any of it.

I don't know how else to say it but this book was bad.

Towards the end, it gets better....but....
The loose writing felt like I missed a few chapters at the start.
The world building is not really there. it would be okay if it was the type where the world builds as the character discovers more about themselves and the world they are new to.

The politics of the world is lax, like you need to be a reader of paranormal and have a little working of the world, otherwise it would be hard to understand or grasp the emotions and actions of the characters.

The characters are not well built, and the main and side characters are basic enough to know who is who.. but when they end up playing or bantering, I don't feel it at all.
Even with all these, there are bits that are good. I like the FMC and her sister. They are strong and characters more developed.
The story is written in POV of FMC and MMC, but instead of adding depth, it sometimes becomes repetitive and makes the book long and slow.

There is steamy smutty smex, and although it is hot, it feels out of place in some moments. One hole is the FMC is a virgin, but nope, no note of that in her first time....there are many more holes that make it hard to stay in the book.

The insta love is lazy as well. Some books work on the relationship growing on its own and not just relying on the link. The link is like a rope to help you find the perfect one, and they are supposed to walk that rope together to make it work. Well, that's how I see it. Anyway, this book seems too easy.
There are triggers abuse, physical and mental, and very descriptive. It gets dark but lacks the grit and just ends up being cringe arsehole moments instead of dark romance like troope.

One thing I like is how the relationship with the step dad is dealt with. It does get better, more action, and twists in the last part of the book. If the first part of the book was as good as the last part, this would be a great book and would follow the series on.

In all, it felt like too much energy for too little return.

Girl get's in trouble, runs away, gets scooped up and taken to her mate. While its a start up with much more twist and turns, The rules of werewolves, alpha's and Obeta's are strictly ruled in this story that it sometimes makes it hard to feel with the alpha and heart wrenching for the main girl. I like the build up and the forward story to the points where got hard for them in their love life only to pulled back before you even can lay it back down out of strong 'she's mine with no other say' Alpha mind. The story is good and taken with some salt to soften the strict "rules". def a must read, after all, it's thankfully fantasy.

Started this book last night. Finished it today. So I’ve been reading this series out of order. But this is the first book to the series. And I don’t understand what makes Aria Queen of the Werewolves. Like that whole power thing was not mentioned throughout this book. None of her history or how she became Queen was alluded. Hopefully in the next two books (yes still reading them out of our) it will be explained.

Dnf. Characters personalities and abilities are inconsistent. The relationships between the characters are inconsistent and unrealistic. They go from hating each other to one big happy family with little to no reason why.

Honestly was really disturbed when I got to reading this book. The MFC went from escaping one abusive relationship to another, without any real choice in the matter because she was forcibly marked and her sister in different instances was used as a power influencer over her decisions to try to leave.

At first I gave the MFC and MMC a chance after hearing both of their pasts but their relationship is just so toxic. Every time she does something that he feels is out of line he punishes her in a physical way, mainly through their mark, but also in other instances of shoving, pushing, and grabbing her really hard. In addition, she states many times throughout the book that she fears what he will do to her when he is so angry about who she is (a hybrid), what she represents (Lycan - a.k.a has equivalent and more power than him), and when she tries to be honest about her thoughts he makes her choices for her without giving her a chance, which pushes her too do things independently.

Their 'healing' moments are meant to be steamy sex scenes, and I could barely get through them because it just felt so wrong, it felt like he was lovebombing her everytime he hurt her and then he would just restart the cycle. Their relationship was just so horrible. The only good thing about this book was the plot line of the story leading up to before their relationship really starts, and that's really hard enough as it is because it's a storyline about escaping domestic violence and trying to find a way forward while discovering new things about her identity (that news flash her partner really hates) just for this relationship to be another thing she is undoubtedly trapped in.

This is a mythical romance about a half bred werewolf/Lychin named Aria and the leader of a werewolf clan named Ried. The authors writing style seemed a bit rough around the edges but I found the storyline and plot quite engaging. I finished the book in 3 days. No om/ow drama. Sex scenes were fair, not crazy hot. Reid was a definite alpha which I liked. Unfortunately Aria was quite the alpha herself which isn't the flavor I prefer.

Aria is raised in the house of her stepfather who is also the alpha of their clan. He's an abusive alcoholic since the death of Arias mother leaving Aria to raise her sister. They escape after a brutal beating of the sister. Another pack takes them in, Ried is her bonded mate and leader of his own pack. It takes him a minute to get over the fact she's a hybrid but that seems to work itself out fairly quickly. Aria ends up being quite special due to her ancient Lychin bloodline which gives her tremendous powers and something like a queen like reign over their pack. The drama continues when he found out her father is alive and there's a group of human Hunters who want to capture her...which they do. A fight ensues, Reid and daddy save her. Oh yeah, and she's pregnant but doesn't want the baby. We end with an epilogue 12 years later where Aria is a settled mom with 3 kids. We end with a glimpse of the next book- the sister walks into the alpha clan meeting and recognizes her mate.

I am honestly conflicted about this story.

In the beginning it felt almost like a Wattpad story, though that luckily got better further on in the story.

However (and here comes the rant), the interactions between our ml and fl enrage me. (SPOILER:) She decides she doesnt want a kid, for VERY valid reasons, and he does not even ask or listen to her explanation. His first action is to lock her up against her will so she can have the kid ("In the future you will see I made the right choice," FU!!!!!)?!?! And she just forgives him without a lot of words after she attacks someone being crazed and hungry after being starved because of him?!?! (Sure he may not have realized she needed blood, which was also strange to me as her father had clearly explained she would be thirsty for blood when pregnant, so very large plothole and/or weak writing.) It just enrages me that he decides to control her entire life, as this wasn't even the first time he took her choices from her. He never lets her explain, just forces his opinions on her, even re-marking her so she falls asleep when she doesn't bow down to him.

I have read a lot of dominant Alpha male stories, but very few managed to irk me as much as Reid does. The only thing keeping me is that there are a lot of interesting and exciting things happening that just keep me captured and reading. But damn, I am so frickin frustrated with this book.

Thanks for listening to my rant.

I have a feeling this is one of the authors first novels. It has quite a few spelling mistakes and repetitive parts. “Ticking time bomb” was used a few times in reference to people at the edge of anger, furious, rage. Even I can come up with a few more describing words to change it up. Two sex scenes were nearly identical, again similar language etc.

Some elements were not explained or explored such as the FMC being the queen of werewolves.

The main element I liked was the main FMC standing up for her values. I disliked with a passion how the MMC would be abusive if she didn’t submit to him, why should the queen submit to him if she’s more powerful. He would either bite her and force her to sleep through it, or use their bond to have sex and apparently no other conversations about disputes.

My main irritation stemmed from the fact she was raising her sister for the past 6 years, didn’t think about protection and then they got pregnant. But the whole time she didn’t want kids. She asks to abort to the doctor with him present and he locks her away and threatens everyone she loves. A few days later they have sex and apparently all is well. Just seemed really unrealistic and ridiculous.

** I have read two other books by the same author, to which were a lot better. So best to skip this one and go for the other series.

“Curious to see her reaction, I ran my hands up the side of her body and into her hair before grabbing a handful.”

Aria cannot let anyone know who and what she really is. So she’s forced to mute her wolf side, be the alpha’s punching bag, and would do it all again if it meant keeping her younger sister safe.

Reid is curious why his fated mate doesn’t recognize him or have super intense feelings unless he’s close to her.

I feel like some of the transitions were a little choppy and I wish some scenes were expanded more but I’m glad I tried the new-to-me author!

This book starts with Aria, a wolf shifter taking care of her sister. She is damaged and living thru a personal nightmare. Eventually, the story evolves, becoming more of a paranormal bully romance with fated mates, hybrids, and hunters. However, as toxic and damaged as everyone was, I didn't expect the book to get darker with trigger content and some gruesome chapters. Then at the end, we get an update on the future of Aria's sister and a prelude to the next book. Overall, the author had some exciting tropes but very toxic relationships, which wasn't even the story's central focus. It confused me as it became action-packed and about everything else.

We met Aria right during a crisis; that introduction is a doozy. However, the first chapter drops us back two weeks before, so we get some back story. Aria is a high school dropout, raising her younger sister Lilly and her stepfather, Alpha of the pack, is a cruel man. Aria is a hybrid, part wolf, part vampire. Her boss Zoe at the diner is like a mother to her, and Lilly even thinks she is human. Their life is complicated, and it isn't perfect.

Reid is an Alpha who happens to find his mate but doesn't talk to her yet. I like his no-nonsense attitude, even if he is all Alpha male. However, he seems to have made a deal with the devil, and we shall see where this goes.

He's a hero; this book was getting so good. I love how protective and patient the Alpha is with his mate. But the author does have a minor spelling oops in the story. The characters' history and backstories are very intriguing, and I get the inner struggle and drama the author is portraying. Oh, finally, this book gets steamy. However, Reid has some intense mood swings. That man is like a rollercoaster, happy one minute and angry the next.

Their steamy scenes border on more angry intimacy as they fight for dominance. Honestly, their relationship is not a healthy example, but I admire the strength and animal instincts displayed. This book gets very dark and action-packed as the author takes the story in different directions.

This book jumps twelve years in the future at the epilogue. The epilogue is like a whole different interconnected story, not that the two main parts made any sense, but at least this part deals with another character. Also, the epilogue has a bunch of spelling mistakes.

Once I read a short paragraph on facebook (yes, you read that right), I had to read more. And I wasn't disappointed. I loved reading the Hybrid Aria and honestly it felt way too short for me. I liked Reid/Ryder as a character even though at some moments I wanted to smack his head into a wall by the decisions he made along with Aria, but I was glad they managed to work it out too. I must say I LOVED the character development that David went through and I wished to see more of Abel as well and about the hybrids.
I can't wait to read more of the 2nd book.

i don't prefer writing reviews to novels because I just feel like everyone has different opinions and reading reviews makes it biased.
but I could just not sit around and let it go.
There was just so much wrong with it but I still tried to read it through.
i gave up when MMC locked MFC when she asked for ABORTION!!!! like bro her body her choice. and the fact that he was just an asshole and a bully but she always just let him get away with it. it's just disgusting.
I do not recommend you wasting your time on this at all.

I really enjoyed this book. And had to come on here and leave a review saying that. I was originally discouraged to read it from the people who left poor reviews based on the writing style, character development and story line. I know everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I had to think "what did you expect!? it's a werewolf, vampire romance!" I picked this book up for the sole purpose of having an escape and enjoyable read and that's exactly what this book did. Not only that, I enjoyed it so much I am going to continue the series.
If you're looking for an easy, escapable read and can overlook a few grammar mistakes you will not be disappointed.

I’m so glad I didn’t pay good money for this book. I liked the premise of the book but it never really lived up to it. There was lots to dislike about the book for example-
Aria was good but I hated her father and for him to miraculously redeem himself after years of abuse wasn’t believable. My assumption is that it’s self published but that’s no reason for not using spellcheck. I really struggled to finish, my attention wandered constantly.
I won’t be reading more from the author. Not worth my hard earned pennies.

I was very interested at the beginning of the book with how the world would build and the way the relationship would pan out but the story lacked world building, there was no character growth from the characters and their love felt at best toxic.

I felt the change of emotions weren’t build up just magically poof I trust you.

The story had a lot of room to grow and amazing character to have an amazing enemies to lovers but I believe it felt short and there were too many grammatical errors and not clear time skips.

Found the female lead incredibly annoying. I don't like when the main characters are stupid and she was as dumb as they come. Each time she had the opportunity to make things easier for everyone she was dead set on doing the opposite. The only things she had going for her was her kindness and her unbelievable luck. Unfortunately that only made her act righteous and incapable of seeing her own flaws.

Enjoyed the twists n turns in the plot and the character progression for ALL of the main characters. Overcoming abuse and discrimination are tough to do, but not impossible as the author demonstrates, even putting some Hunters in a positive light.
I actually started book 2 not realizing it was a series, so found book one and am looking forward to reading all of them!

Um ... I don't think it's worth the 7€ I paid for it. The character's growth, if it can be called that, is nonsensical and ... I don't want to call it nonexistent as it kind of exists, BUT it does not make sense as the author seems to put more emphasis on the bed play and less on some good old school communication.

Second

This is my second time reading this book. I love Jessica halls books.
I was a little disappointed in how some of the storyline zigged and zagged so quickly. And how some characters were treated hot and cold so quickly. Story finished pretty quick after a big bomb of twists. Seemed rushed at the end.
