BUFORD The Other Story By Mike Elam — The book that changed everything about “Walking Tall.” When the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation re-opened its case into the 1967 “ambush” that killed Pauline Pusser, it was because of evidence, including the firearm possibly used in the alleged ambush, uncovered by former Deputy Sheriff Mike Elam—the author of this groundbreaking book. For decades, Sheriff Buford Pusser was hailed as a hero who “cleaned up the State Line.” But the truth was far darker Drawing on first-hand interviews, FBI and TBI files, photographs, and new evidence, Elam reveals a version of events that Hollywood never told. The ambush real was a staged cover-up to silence Pauline before she exposed corruption inside her husband’s office. This gripping true-crime investigation challenges everything you thought you knew about the “Walking Tall” legend and the infamous State Line Mob. ⭐ If you think you know the real story… think again.
If the book didn't have so many misspellings and grammatical errors, it would have been a better read. There were parts of the book where whole paragraphs didn't belong or had been imported from some other part of the book and not removed. It was as if there was no proofreader. Seriously. Errors on almost every single page. (Dear Author Mike Elam--I would gladly correct this for you.) That being said...the facts and paperwork presented seemed accurate. The author backs up his statements and story with legal documents such as autopsy reports and more. I found the eyewitnesses credible. I know from my own experience of having been in that area...working there, visiting, and more...that what the author says about Buford Pusser is pretty much spot on. Times were different...true...but even in an era where people were much more decent and moral, Buford stood out for his devil-may-care attitude. His heart was dark...very dark.
