“An edgy, dark, scorching romance that is filled to the brim with intense heat, a fascinating plot that is both decadent and breathtaking, and characters that are truly amazing.” –Marie, Amazon reviewer
An epic modern romance between... Hades, ruler of the diamond mine Persephone, innocent virgin
This is the complete King of Shadows trilogy in one collection.
Threats. Murder. Kidnapping. Luther Hades will do anything to own me. I make a bargain and sign his contract. Part of me fears the cruel billionaire. The other part of me wonders whether there's something in him worth redeeming.
Except he's hiding secrets in this mountain. They shake the earth beneath my feet. How can I fall in love with a man this dangerous?
"Breathtaking, intense, and scorching hot, this is the modern myth I've been waiting for." –New York Times Bestselling Author Skye Warren

“There’s more than one way to punish a woman,” he says. Or at least I think he says it. It could be my own brain finally losing its grip on reality. “More than this, Persephone.” I brace for another spanking, but instead I hear a sound I can’t immediately place. Clothes hitting the floor. I’m not wearing any more clothes. I’m bent over the edge of the bed, panting and quaking and only upright by the grace of Hades himself. Those have to be his clothes. I’ve had too much to turn my head, though I want to see him. I want to see him, but I don’t need to see him. All I need to do is feel him. He touches me, making the first contact. The air around us ignites. He slides his palms down my back, traces a path down my spine. Then he braces them against my hips. “I’m going to hold you still while I take you.” Like he’s commenting on the weather. “You weren’t hoping for someone to kiss you and wipe away your tears, were you?” I shake my head. I wish he would just do it. I wish he would take us to the other side of whatever this is. Maybe that’s crazy. Maybe it’s not something I should ever want, and it makes me just as bad as he is. But I’ve never killed anyone. I’ve only begged a killer to do depraved things to my body. I don’t know what that makes me, and right now, I don’t care. “Good.”
HOLY FUCKING HELL. THERE'S ASSHOLES, then there's this motherfucker. Hades. But let me fucking tell you he is one of my FAVE ALPHAHOLE BOOK BOYFRIENDS EVER.
I'm OBSESSED with this man. He's an ahole. He's mean. He's rough, in all the best ways. He dicks Persephone down so good I jizzed my pants multiple times. This story has one of my fave anal scenes ever, like every time I think about it I get a huge smile on my face, ok and I moan too. GODDDD. I DIED.
He’s a king, and even a king in pain needs a queen. I’ll be a warm night for him. I’ll be the summer moon. I’ll be the fresh soil where flowers grow.
Well this tale of mythical lovers Hades and Persephone was a deep dark trip down the rabbit hole! I've read many versions of their love story but none as dark as this one. Hades has always been my favorite mythical god because of his undying love for Persephone and how she brought light and love to the underworld. But this Hades is a violent monster who's heart is made of ice and seems way past any kind of redemption and certainly quite incapable of love. I will admit that at first I hated him and how he treated Persephone but little by little we get to see how this monster was made and weither he likes it or not Persephone starts to cause cracks in his heart and their will be no going back for either of them. Hades isn't the only one who is fucked up either our girl Persephone is twisted in her own way as well. See Persephone not only likes humiliation she also loves pain and needs it to get off. You'd probably be fucked up too if your own mother kept you locked down and abused you not just physically but mentally as well. Demeter is a total mommy dearest and the truth once it comes out is even more sicker then the lies she feed Persephone for years about hades. I usually don't read very dark romances but Amelia wilder is a fabulous writer that pulled me in and wouldn't let me leave until I heard all their whole story. This has a very adult theme read with a whole lot of hot sex and not the sweet lovey dovey kind its hard and very dark! But very well written. Their was also side characters like Hades foster brothers Zeus and Poseidon who were just as intriguing and I'm sure their books will be just as twisted! Especially Zeus I want to know his back story because all we got were little glimpses! Well played Amelia!! Until next time Luv's💕💋
I'm going to review this as 1 book since it just makes more sense. This book very much reads as one novel, I don't understand why it was originally 3 separate smaller books.
So! I liked this well enough at the beginning. I was interested in why Persephone is locked up by her mother, Demeter. Once Hades takes her I was intrigued enough to see how their relationship develops and what him and his diamond mine are all about.
One of the main reasons I am DNF'ing is because the relationship between Hades and Persephone is really hard for me to believe, and while there is a ton of smut in here (to the point of being tedious), I don't see any chemistry between the two. Persephone is kept on Demeter's farm her whole life. She's extremely sheltered, has basically never had a friend or access to the outside world, wears linen clothes and is altogether extremely innocent. Hades takes her in a flurry of violence, threats, and what is basically sexual assault and embarrassment. For some reason, despite how terribly Hades treats her, Persephone is totally okay with all of this and quickly become his "dirty little slut" - their words, not mine. It's not believable to me. She basically has a horrible case of Stockholm Syndrome. And considering how incredibly sheltered she is - it's really hard to believe she even knows about/is fine with all the kinks and things Hades does to her.
Even though there are Hades POV chapters I still have no idea why Hades is so enthralled with Persephone. We get it - she's gorgeous and looks like an angel - but there is no other reason revealed to us. Honestly, Hades is a bit boring to me even. He's just sort of brooding, and for the parts I read, only comes on scene to punish Persephone and have sex with her. There was even a scene where the two were having sex and having an important conversation regarding Hades past, which made it difficult to follow and the smut wasn't sexy when they are literally having a conversation in the middle of it.
I actually almost stopped reading this sooner because there is a good portion of the book where we aren't sure if Hades is Persephone's actual UNCLE or not. Zeus captures Persephone at one point and reveals Demeter and Hades are his siblings. Persephone kind of shrugs this off and goes back to Hades. The whole time I was disgusted and kept waiting for that to be explained (hopefully not actually being related of course), but it took a really long time for this to be addressed again. I ~think~ they even have sex before it's clarified that Hades is in fact Demeter and Zeus' foster brother.
The final nail in the coffin for this book was when Persephone learns a bit more about Hades and his condition. We know Demeter has one key to healing his pain, but apparently Persephone's vagina is magical and is his other key to relief from his condition. At this point I realized how absurd the whole book is. Really? Persephone, who has a huge case of Stockholm Syndrome, exists to have sex with Hades and lurk around his mansion (that's pretty much all that was happening in terms of plot), now has a ~magical~ vagina that can somehow cure Hades pain? Yeah, okay. The whole plot at this point lost it's appeal. The whole "Hades has a condition" plot line became boring and I simply don't care to find out anymore.
And finally - This is barely a Hades and Persephone retelling. Sure, there are Greek god names in this, but that's where the similarities stop. Take away the names and this is a poorly built mafia romance. I really would love to find a contemporary Hades & Persephone retelling where there are actual gods/goddesses and magic. To get really nit picky - the world they inhabit isn't well built and doesn't make a ton of sense? Demeter is the mafia farmer, Hades is the mafia diamond miner, and Zeus is the face in the big city with a brothel? The diamond mine thing seemed super far fetched and sort of comes off a bit cheesy.
I really am not trying to have this be a rant, but there are number of things I did not like about this. I would recommend to someone who wants to read a very loose retelling with a lot of smut, but the plot and the actual relationship/chemistry are very much lacking.
I’m so thrilled to announce that the complete King of Shadows trilogy will be available to read in one collection! Hades & Persephone contains the revised and expanded King of Shadows trilogy (11k more words to love!) and exclusive scenes not available anywhere else! Get ready to meet the hottest alpha antihero EVER and my favorite hero of all time for the special launch price of 4.99! Coming April 20th!
This book is dark, steamy, twisted and I was here for every moment!! Hades and Persephone have always been one of my fave Greek mythology stories and I loved this retelling! Hades is the perfect anti hero - he is broody, dominant and grumpy- except when it comes to Persephone. And Persephone is the perfect balance for him with her combination of innocence and feistiness. These two have chemistry that jumps off the page and I was here for all their banter and their love story. This story had twists and turns that leave you on the edge of your seat but the romance is amazing throughout. I just love seeing the walls come does between these two and their HEA was just perfection! Definitely the steamiest mythology retelling that I’ve ever read!!
Tropes: - romantic suspense - hades & persephone *loose inspiration* - age gap (yrs unknown) - not relevant to plot - billionaire hero - protective + possessive hero - obsessed hero - innocent sheltered heroine - virgin heroine - sibling rivalry (heroines mom was the hero’s foster sibling) - hero with a “fictional” eyesight impairment (idk how else to explain it) - hidden mountain/cave setting - slight fantasy elements
POV: first person - dual
Type: trilogy in one book (technically stand-alone if you read this box set version)
A thousand times yes. Read this trilogy right now.
Hades loves Persephone beyond belief. THIS IS THE TYPE OF ROMANCE I LOVE. I never had to question his love for her. Was he an asshole at times? Sure but he would never hurt her. He would rather die than cause her pain and that’s the stuff i STRIVE on.
PLUS THE BONUS EPILOGUE IN THIS EDITION COMPLETES MY HEART. IT WAS PERFECTION. I definitely needed this after some shit other books have put me through.
There’s no other people drama that I remember so I’d say it’s a completely safe read considering Hades character.
I might be reading these interconnected series of mythology retellings backwards and therefore have had an idea what I was about to get into, but holy a&&hole batman, Hades is something else entirely! Dirty, filthy, mean, burst-your-panties-into-flames-possessive … seriously, I can’t even!
I’ve read quite a few Hades & Persephone retellings these past few months, but this one takes the cake. Dark, twisted and triggering. Insane, crazy and wild. The story of a perfect anti-hero – broody, callous, dominant – meeting his match in the heroine’s perfect combination of innocence, sweetness, strength and feistiness. And their banter … chemistry … their passion … let’s just say Amelia Wilde knows how to burn it up between the sheets, holy hell!
But their journey is not all erotic exploration, and finding their way to one another, no, it packs a suspenseful, grip-the-edge-of-your-seat punch too. And the best part? You get their complete story in one bundle without the excruciating wait in-between instalments. So, what are your waiting for? Grab your copy of HADES & PERSEPHONE now!
This book set is not for the weak of heart! In this rereleased set you get all you’ve loved before with a few new scenes and some more time to spend with our favorite broken characters.
This set includes: King of Shadows Summer Queen Midnight Kingdom Price of Diamonds
This story of Hades and Persephone is dark, and it’s twisty and it will for sure be triggering for some, but the best part is that you don’t get caught up on the cliffhangers because the next story is right there! 😉
Amelia Wilde has taken the story of these two famous Greeks and has given her fresh spin on it to draw you in and keep you there until you have to finish it and see what comes next.
If you like strong alphas who love hard and heroines who gain strength they didn’t know they had then this is definitely the box set for you.
Hot Damn... Hades is wicked and so freaking delicious! This boxset contains all three books in King of Shadows trilogy. Trust me when I say, you NEED this book especially if you love alpha men who are downright dirty! Hades & Persephone by Amelia Wilde is an EPIC read that will join the ranks of the BIBLIO-ARISTOCRACY!!!
I’ve been really curious to pick something from this author and I was in the mood for a Hades & Persephone retelling so I was very excited to finally pick this up. Maybe it was my own fault for having sky roof expectations.
For me, the writing was kind of confusing most of the times and I can’t say that I really loved the characters (I enjoyed them more in the last book but still) or the plot. Overall, it was an okay read but I was expecting so much more. But to be honest, I really loved the bonus scenes, my heart couldn’t handle the cuteness overload.
Anyway, I’m still curious with Amelia’s writing and I’ll give her another chance in the future since everyone loves her books and I’m really curious with some of the blurbs I’ve seen.
▬ 𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐬: dark romance, enemies to lovers, forbidden romance, age gap, captor x captive, retelling (Hades x Persephone) ▬ 𝐭𝐰: violence, abuse
Me encantó.
I read and purchased these books separately and am combining my reviews for this boxset. I cannot recommend this enough. One of my favorites series from this author.
King of Shadows What did i just read?
I thought I'd read pretty much every version of this story. I was wrong. How this author managed to make this current with the original characters? My mind is blown. She's and Hades on a phone together?!? What? Both of them still ruling their precious domains... The world-building in this book blew my mind. I'm 10000% on board to find out what happens next.
The steamy interaction between these characters was titillating, to say the least. I wanted to get to the root of Mr Hades. I wanted to understand Persephone and why his mother protected almost like lockdown.
I went and instantly bought the next books, despite having thousands of books on my TBR and having already spent my book money budget for the month. It's that good. If the rest of this author's books are this good, I'm a definite fan.
Summer Queen This trilogy...
I'm pretty sure this trilogy might be the death of me. The suspense, the secrets, the ulterior motivations, and the connection between Persephone and Hades are why I love to read. This is so different than mythology in the typical sense. It is how I imagined the mind games played by the Gods, only this time set to modern times.
The steam in this series is amongst the best that I've ever read. I'm always a sucker for an anti-hero that shows signs of vulnerability. You can't get more anti-hero than the God of the underworld. He is so delicious.
I cannot wait for the conclusion.
Midnight Kingdom 4.4 stars
I have loved this trilogy something fierce. It was a great addition to the series. The chemistry and steam between Persephone and Hades was the fire.
I did get frustrated at a few parts, mainly Demeter and Poseidon. I wanted those parts of the story fleshed out a tad more. Especially, Demeter and what happens after the debacle with Zeus. It just wants clear. I'm hoping that Zeus's story gives me those answers. Eagerly waiting for July now for that to be released.
This is an age gap, enemies to lovers, modern retelling of Hades and Persephone, and I am pretty much obsessed with them now.
Since Persephone was born, she's been constantly warned by her mother, Demeter, to stay away from Hades. Demeter's been controlling her for 18 years but she's finally had enough and decides to run away from home. Little did Persephone know that she would land herself into trouble and end up having to sign her life away to Hades. She's been warned that he controls everything, that he's such an evil man, and he would kill her but she didn't even know what he looked like.
"I’ve never seen Luther Hades. But I don’t need a photo ID to know it’s him.
Only Luther Hades could suck all the light from around him, turning moonlight into dark. Only Luther Hades could look that huge, or that lethal."
Hades? He loves how young, naive and innocent she is. Oh, and he gets off on her begging and crying... it's twisted but it's so fucking hot, judge me all you want I don't care. Exhibit A:
"White dress, hair spilling down her back in curls, the gentle slope of her waist up to perfect tits. What’s under the dress, aside from those tits? Little to nothing, judging by the hard little peaks of her nipples.
I want her.
My mind sighs with all the things I could do to that pretty little body, consequences be damned.
“I like it when you cry.” Hades does touch me now, two fingertips on my cheek, burning a path along the tracks of my tears. “I like the way it makes your body shake. A man could get drunk off that feeling.”
“Please.”
That please lights up kindling at the base of my spine. That—I want more of that.
“What do you want?” My lips are numb, useless, and in spite of myself my eyelids get heavier by the second.
“Hmmm.” He’s above me, beside me, everywhere. “I want you to cry. I want you to beg. I want to watch your face go red with the shame you’ll never be able to shake.”"
And the fact that Persephone loves how evil and mean he is towards her? I can't even explain how dark and twisted and SEXY this is. Exhibit B:
Yes, yes, yes. “No. I can’t want this.” Hades laughs. “But it is. You’re wet.” His tone lifts to a wondering register. “You’re so fucking wet, that if I—” He doesn’t bother to describe what he’s going to do.
He only shoves his fingers back inside, roughly, without warning, without waiting. “You want this. In fact...” He leans even closer so that his breath brushes my ear. “You need this. And I love watching you cry and squirm and beg for it.”"
This series captivated me ever since the prequel. I can't even begin to describe Amelia's writing; it's so beautifully poetic yet so tragic, and SUCH a page turner, you just can't help wanting to know what happens next.
Hades is just such an evil man that you'll find yourself falling in love with him the same way Persephone did. Then you'll question "how did I reach here?", question your morals, your sanity and your taste in men. And to that, I say fuck my morals.
I want an evil bastard just like Hades to ruin me the way he did to Persephone. I could go on and on about how much I loved it, but I'm not going to spoil it even more. You're gonna have to experience this rollercoaster of a series for yourself 🖤
The starting was amazing, the first part and everything butttttt, it became sooo confusing for me. Half of the things I just couldn't make sense of and half gave me questions. And persephone? Yaaaaa, she kept sleeping, if it wasn't sleeping then fucking and if not fucking then sleeping. She irritated me. The story was confusing about a lot of things that sounded like the Era it was happening in was ancient but sometimes felt like it was modern. Like wowww, at the third part of the story I lost interest and gave up. Though that still isn't the most frustrating thing, what I wanted to know was the age gap....so when Hades was 18 Persephone wasn't even born? Ughhhhh, there wasn't any mention of age gap anywhere in the blurb or in the book itself. I have no problem with this big age gap romance stories but there needs to be a trigger for it or something. Not only that but persephone's mother is Hades sister!? Not biological but sister!? And her daughter is in love with Hades!? So messed up
This is mentally draining trying to read this. All this is, is Hades barking commands in an abusive manner. Not a consensual dominant relationship like it's trying to portray. Very poorly written
It's a retelling of the story of Hades and Persephone. Demeter in this book is abusive and sells poppies to Hades for a painkiller. Persephone tries to escape and Hades ends up catcher her and then immediately hurting her and touching her. It's an attempt at a dark romance with spice but failed like 50 shades of grey. You can tell the author does not have any experience with this type of relationship because the way Hades is portrayed, he's just a straight up bully and it's very obnoxious and hard to read. There's a difference between someone who likes to hurt women and a dom. The way this story is written is that Hades likes to control and hurt Persephone like a psychopath. There is no consent talk, "you can stop at anytime", it's insult after insult and hurting her for fun.
I have loved all the Hades & Persephone books I’ve read and this is probably someone’s favorite but I couldn’t get into this at all. I ended up skimming through the book at 50% just to find out when Demeter and the others face each other.
I was tempted to DNF so many times but I don’t like stopping midway.
I couldn’t feel the chemistry between Hades and Persephone until I reached the epilogue. I think there was a lot of narrating going on rather than seeing/ understanding what the characters are actually feeling.
I started reading this book because I always loved the Hades and Persephone myth and thought this cannot be bad. It was. There just so many things started and not finished is not even funny. Persephone goes from being a really sheltered virgin to wanting some action from the bad guy in like 20pages. A lot of thing in this book do not make sense. At the end of it none of those plot twist reveal themselves so I will not bother reading the other 2 books from the series for that.
dnf i read part 1&2 but the third part’s so boring. I mean the ending is kind of expected and honestly it was unnecessary to make the story so long when the plot is very basic and uninteresting.
Hades & Persephone is the first trilogy where Amelia Wilde introduces her modern Greek Gods to the world.
It is the King of Shadows series in one book with more added that allows readers to see how Hades, Persephone and additional family members have faired over time.
So much came rushing back as I began King of Shadows and for as much that came rushing back I realized I had forgotten almost just as much. The one thing that will never change is Hades is an Alpha with a major in how to mistreat people! Yet, the one person who he dominates, Persephone is the one person on earth that can harm him. Not in a physical sense but emotionally. Hades is almost immune to despicable treatment from everyone, it’s how he was raised, it’s how he was punished it was almost what killed him
So as I re-read King of Shadows, I was able to see how much it prepared me for Book 2 Summer Queen.
In Summer Queen Persephone begins to come into her own as a character who is beginning to question what she sees, what she hears as she begins to step up to her role as Summer Queen, the person that Hades has come to love and will always protect. Again, there were scenes that I remembered vividly but this time I realized it was Eleanor who enlightened Persephone when it came some of Hades past and most especially to his past with Zeus. The progression of the stories one right after the other, brought more life to this story. I was already hooked but this re-read again just embedded that hook more into what an amazing story teller Amelia Wilde is.
By the time I started book 3, Midnight Kingdom I was again looking forward to what I remembered to be epic! The betrayal, the honest worry on behalf of Hades for his mountain and his people, Hades reaching out to a brother we knew little about and his admission to the one emotion he had promised to himself he would never have yet because of one Summer Queen. Hades had found that which had been taken from him cruelly and he allowed himself to feel again. How can a book get any better? Amelia Wilde makes it better by then giving readers 11,000 more words that shows characters can grow and change even after the first three books end.
I took the time to savor re-reading these stories and then catching up with Hades, Persephone, Zeus and several new characters.
I would also recommend if you are looking to purchase the series in its entirety, purchase this book, you get the bang you need at the end, putting everything to do with the King of Shadows in one book that is in my opinion the best way to enjoy this series.
What’s a book you knew, that if you read it, then that’s it. You’ll be experiencing withdrawals after, it’ll put you in a major slump, there will be no recovery. There will be no reading it for the first time ever again… so you keep/kept postponing picking it up.
My journey with Amelia’s trilogies was really weird but somehow it worked *perfectly for me*. I started with Poseidon’s then Zeus’, leaving the best for last. And I really thought it’s because of bias. I’ve always preferred Hades and his myth/retelling and every aspect of his story… but I did not expect loving this take on his character this much… After immersing myself into Amelia’s world, characters and way of writing, it feels stupid to even doubt that. And again, I believe me reading the trilogies backwards made the experience even more special and striking.
I was thinking about ranking the trilogies, the brothers’ stories… I found it to be impossible because their aspects, settings, were so different yet there were these elements bringing them all together in a way that just made it all fit so seamlessly.
I usually rave about Hades constantly. I mean what’s not worth obsessing over? The mysterious, formidable, powerful, attractive, striking man that is literally shrouded in shadows yet has this deep soul, achingly tragic life and this unlimited capacity to care and protect. And witnessing his journey of exploring and accepting his feelings and relationship with Persophone was one that marked me. In short, there was a striking duality in his character that I loved.
Although I was obsessed with Hades (some scenes left me literally screaming) Persephone took all the credit in terms of character development. It was even emphasized in the book by Hades himself. From the innocent, naive girl he met that night at the tracks to the strong, capable woman befitting the title of a queen. Damn he gave the woman an actual crown!! (And then did some steamy A F things to her 🥵)
So basically, I was in my feels the entire time reading these books. I knew this was the one for me and damn it, now it’s over 🥺
This absolutely incredible book brings together all three books in the King Of Shadows trilogy and gives you bonus content to boot!! Part dark romance and part mythology this tense, twisted, sizzling hot, breath stealer and heart melter is a definite must read and if you never have, there is no better time! This is my independent, impartial review. The three books included are:
King Of Shadows: (5 Stars) Holy Moly, what a book!! All I can say is try to prepare yourself for the epic sizzling darkness that is Luther and the sinful, twisted lusciousness he brings with him! As a big fan of Greek mythology and a huge romance junkie, this book felt like it was almost created with me personally in mind. I loved this book. Luther and Persephone's story is a utterly consuming blend of scorching heat, warring desires, and intense emotional turmoil.
Summer Queen: (5 Stars) Wow, book two in Hades and Persephone story is sinful and breathtaking! As this couple's story picks up again from book one, King Of Shadows (which you Must read first) everything intensifies (which, honestly doesn't even seem possible!). If you are like me you will find yourself very quickly pulled back into this captivating tale and consumed by these complex characters. The well written story line is filled with raw emotions, nail-biting tension, jaw-dropping twists, swoon worthy passion and lots of sinful, filthy, blistering heat. This is a truly epic romance that sends your own emotions spinning and forces the characters to evolve and face often painful emotional turmoil along the way. It is dark, it is dirty and it is simply delicious!!!
Midnight Kingdom: (5 Stars) This is the third and final piece of Hades and Persephone incredible story. The journey that these two have been on has been quite the roller coaster ride of intense emotions, drama, excitement, suspense, hot passion darkness and jaw-dropping twists. I loved these two so much! They totally stole my heart. I'm sorry to say goodbye to this couple but I eagerly look forward to more books set in this addictive and captivating world.
How lucky are you as a reader to get this all in one place with no waiting time between books. HEre is a combination of all my reviews all in one <3
What have I just finished reading and I mean this in the best of ways!!! This was a little dark story about Luther Hades and Persephone. I was captured immediately with these characters and what a dark alpha Luther was had my heart swooning. The pace was quick, the steam was HOT and I am diving in immediately to book 2 right now as I need more.
This book was incredible how it picked up right where book one left off and filled in answers to so many questions. I absolutely love the premise of modern day Greek gods and the way this story is playing out is pure perfection. The author is giving so many feels and thoughts to the characters and their backstory. The personal growth of the characters has me completely captured and never wanting to let go. Come on book three don’t let me down
This book is the third in a series following Hades (who is the ultimate not nice alpha who left me swooning) and Persephone. This book brought everything together and took the reader on the most amazing journey of seeing truly how Persephone grew up yet she was still very submissive to her alpha Hades. Hades actually develops a strong soft side for his love. The dynamics between the siblings is off the charts and I really hope that we will get stories about the siblings along the way as well.
Have you pick up this trilogy?! What are you waiting for?
This have to be one of the best retell of Hades and Persephone love story. I can't get enough of them. I was so intrigued, and it was so mysterious that sometimes I forget it was a retell. The twists and turns would have you at the edge of your seat. Hades was RUTHLESS. Persephone was definitely naïve. But as the story progresses, you start to see the softer side of Hades, and Persephone maturing more. Knowing what she wants and not afraid to say or show it. They need each other.
Amelia did such a PHENOMENAL job with this story. She nailed it!!!
I blew through this trilogy in the last two days.I couldn't put it down, reading until I fell asleep and picking it up the next morning. Persephone ran away from a very sheltered life, only to be hidden away by the very man her mom warned her about. Hades. Hades has painful struggles and it really made me feel for him. Also he feels like he's a bad guy and that the world is against him. But he really has a caring side. And Persephone finds such a strength within herself. They both grow together and bring out the best in each other.
I not only loved the action, the romance, but also the way this was written. It was beautiful and poetic at times. I loved their story, and the little bit of magic sprinkled in.
The King Of Shadows trilogy is Ms. Wilde’s first dark romance series and just as phenomenal as any other book or series of hers I’ve read so far. In every single book in this series, the tense anticipation of what would happen next nearly killed me, making me turn the pages as fast as I could read. And it got even more thrilling, even more emotional, even more breathtaking with every single book ...
Hades and Persephone’s story is intriguing, fascinating, exciting, mind-blowing, dark and twisted … you name it! They are so perfect for each other, complementing one another as if they were destined for each other by fate. The contrast between the characters, with Hades embodying night and all things dark and Persephone embodying day and all things light, is almost dazzling.
The re-telling of this Greek myth is pure fascination. It felt as if I was being sucked into a new universe, unable to separate myth and reality, and that has never happened to me before. After I finished reading it, it felt like something out of a dream, like I was resurfacing from a wave that threatened to drown me. And the new bonus scenes? Even if you’ve already read the individual books, you won’t want to miss these scenes!
