I am hoping to apply and obtain British citizenship by the end of next year.
Several friends and acquaintances (British and non-British) have said I must be mad. Not because they're racist, but because they feel like the UK is not a great place to be a citizen of nowadays. I understand their point of view. But I am happy in the UK, and I've reached the point where I've lived here long enough that I doubt I'd be happy anywhere else.
Also, I am under no obligation to apply for citizenship because I already have settled status and indefinite leave to remain. But still, I feel like it's the right thing to do.
Of course, as is the case with other countries as well, British citizenship has to be earned, rather than given freely. Hence why I would have to save up on some money and make sure I am actually eligible before applying. And I will have to return to this book as well in order to pass the Life in the UK test.
