Mathias and Maddy
This is a fun, exciting read. All hands are on deck when one of the team has a medical crisis. The one who usually stays home and provides backup is called on to provide protection for a woman on the search for an ancient artifact. She’s trying to beat a collector to it. Mathias meets his match when he encounters Madeline, Maddy, a member of the elite group called The Guard. The fun, danger and hot steamy scenes begin. I loved watching Mathias try to thaw “The Ice Queen”. Never underestimate a cowboy!

This is my honest opinion of the book. Action, suspense, and romance. What more can you ask for?. You take a very good looking cowboy/bodyguard and get him protecting a beautiful woman who by chance also doubles as a bodyguard, and sparks fly.
I can't wait to read the next one in this series.

Em Petrova has written a 5-star book. This is the story of Madeline (Maddy) and Mathias. Maddy works for The Guards and she is sometimes a bodyguard. She is doing some work and her boss has just told her that Tommy Dahl has been seen. She knows what he is looking for so she calls West Protection Agency and talks to Ross. She calls in her marker from Ross and she gets a bodyguard for the trip she plans on taking to New Mexico. Mathias is assigned to be her bodyguard and things don't go well at first. Dahl tries to stop Maddy from getting to the artifact he is looking for before him. Mathias develops feelings for Maddy the more time he spends with her. He knows she is called the Ice Queen from the information he got on her before he took the job. They are on the trail when all of a sudden Maddy fell off her mule and gets hurt. Mathias has to patch her up and he is not happy about hurting her more. They end up running into Dahl and Mathias tells her to stay hidden and he goes to confront Dahl. Before Maddy came out Dahl told Mathias that he and Maddy had been together as a couple. This hurts Mathias because Maddy did not tell him everything about the mission. He feels like she is still keeping things from him. When Maddy comes out from hiding she starts talking to Dahl and Mathias tries to tell her something but she doesn't understand what. He all of a sudden attacks Dahl and takes him down. Dahl somehow gets up and leaves telling Maddy that things are not over yet. Mathias tells her that she has to start telling him the truth from then on. She is still keeping something from him and she is not ready to tell him just yet. She tells him a few things that he is not happy about. They continue on to see if she can find the cave the artifact is supposed to be in. They find some horse tracts and Maddy doesn't know which way Dahl went. She picks one way and hopes it proves to be the one he didn't take. They stop for a rest and Maddy goes off for a few minutes and when she turns around, Dahl is standing there. He tells her that if she doesn't go with him, he will make sure Mathias is killed. She tells him she will go with him but she wants to talk to Mathias first. What she tells Mathias is a lie but he doesn't know that. She tells him that she was just using him and the time they spent together meant nothing to her, it was just sex. At first, Mathias is hurt by what she tells him but then he starts thinking that maybe she didn't mean what she said to him. Mathias goes after Maddy and hopes he hasn't waited to long to go after her. He gets a call from Corrine and she lets him know that the area he's in is going to be flooded when the government opens the damn. Mathias needs to find Maddy and get her out before the area is flooded. He comes to one area and looks up and he sees Maddy and Dahl fighting and then disappear only to reappear a few minutes later. Mathias knows that the fastest way is to climb up to where he saw Maddy and Dahl. He is almost up to the top when Corrine calls him again and tells him that they are going to flood the area that day. A few minutes later he hears the sound of water coming in a rush. He reaches the top and takes a short rest and then starts looking for Maddy. He sees her one minute and the next she is gone. Somehow she is safe on a ledge and he knows he is going to have to climb down to get her. Things don't happen the way he wants at first.
Will Maddy and Mathias make a go of their relationship?
This was a wonderful book and I would recommend it to anyone.

This had a cute and sometimes funny role reversal for our MCs, Mathias and Madeline.
Madeline is a a total girl boss who kicks butt every which way. She's a whiz with languages and can hold her own against any of the members of the Guard on her team. Basically this lady is as far away from a damsel in distress and you can get :)
Her counterpart, Mathias is a laid back, home grown cowboy at heart. He steps up to the plate when his family at WEST Protection needs him to go out in the field. He's not Rambo :) but he definitely can hold his own when push comes to shove.
These two end up together in a race against time to find an ancient artifact before another ruthless collector gets his greedy hands on it.
I loved the detailed description of their travels in New Mexico. It really felt like I was there, riding out in the open, sitting by the campfire. It was a vivid setting that put me right into the story along with the characters.
Mathias and Maddy's romance is a slow burn. Mathias has to work to break down Maddy's walls and she doesn't make it easy for him! But when she finally admits her real feelings for him, it was worth the wait! These two like to make an impression and don't leave things half done, lol!
The baddie, Dahl, was okay, not bad but not very memorable either. I kept wondering why Maddy was so focused and determined to get ahead of Dahl and was thinking he'd done something really heinous and terrible. I was a bit disappointed with her reasons when they were finally revealed. Don't get me wrong, he was a total dick but the single minded way Maddy pursued him, dropping everything to go on this wild goose chase and almost dying over it was too OTT for me and felt a bit like a woman scorned type vibe which is so not how I picture Maddy.
This wasn't my favorite of the WEST Protection series but it was still a good entertaining read and can't wait for more!

“Cowboy Conspiracy Theory” is the third book in the ‘WEST Protection’ series by Em Petrova. It can definitely be read as a standalone. I do want to take a moment to mention the talent this author has for combining elements from different series into one story. Madeline, the female lead character in this book, has appeared before in Petrova’s series, ‘The Guard’. She was a strong and intriguing character, and when I realized she was a main character in this story, I gave a silent mental cheer to the author.
Madeline contacts West Protection because she needs a bodyguard to accompany her on a dangerous trek to search for a mysterious artifact she wants to find before a bad guy named Dahl beats her to it. She herself is an extraordinarily capable professional bodyguard, but her quest is too risky to go on alone. Mathias is a capable bodyguard, although he prefers to work at the agency in a back-office capacity, providing intel and support to those in the field. He simply prefers the company of horses to that of most people. He doesn’t understand the visceral reaction he has to Madeline, but it definitely feels good. Although Madeline is known for her cool, icy demeanor, she can’t ignore the fact that Mathias heats up her blood very exciting ways. Long days and nights on the trail of the artifact leave them fighting against falling headlong into an intimate connection, which is something that would be totally unprofessional and could distract them from their own safety and success.
This is a fast-moving story with a couple of big surprises and some truly funny moments. Some of the dangerous scenes you can totally envision taking place on a movie screen. Among the secondary characters are several of Madeline’s colleagues from ‘The Guard’ and others from the WEST Protection crew. There are hilarious hippies, dastardly donkeys, conniving criminals, and more. We’re also left anxious to learn more about what’s been going on with Matthias’ friend and colleague, Silas. I’m really looking forward to it!

Madeline works with The Guard and they are considered as an elite bodyguard service. When her boss tells her about someone's location showing up, she does not hesitate to go there to find an artifact in New Mexico. She requests a bodyguard to help her with the mission. Mathias works at West Protection team and he joined his friend's family venture. He is assigned to protect a woman with a nicknamed Ice Queen. He tries to start a conversation as they ride to their destination and she tells him about hunting an artifact. Then, he realizes that she is a guarded person which he tries humor her with his jokes.
Madeline learns that they will be using mules instead of horses since they were all rented out. As they travel through a trail, they share stories about their lives. She tells herself that she should not be having such thoughts about Mathias but she cannot help but to admire his features.
Mathias needs to guard her while they retrieve an artifact that is known to bring a person's soulmate to each other. He mentions how he has a job on his uncle's ranch and he is attracted to Madeline despite of how she refuses to let him know if she needs to take a rest. He wants to know the woman hiding behind her walls and he is deeply captivated by her as he cannot help the attraction he feels for her.
Madeline does not want to let her guard down especially around Mathias. She swore to avoid getting into a relationship to any man and she needs to stay focus as She keeps her emotions closed off and she does not want her injuries impede their progress to locate the artifact. However, problems arise as they struggle to travel towards their destination while being on the lookout for enemies.
Can Madeline allow Mathias to develop their relationship into something more? Can Mathias
show that his love is enough to stand with each other forevermore?

The characters have a great chemistry and I love their banter. Madeline is a strong, independent and more than capable, intelligent, stubborn, headstrong, determined, and a sassy woman. Mathias is a protective, funny, strong, honorable, considerate, attentive, perceptive, vigilant, and a smart man. I enjoyed reading the book and I love that Maddy and Mathias have a HEA ending as they live together though I wished there were more extra scenes of them in the future.

But as their trek commences and danger ensues, Maddy will soon realise that the buff and annoying Cowboy is wedging his way into her cold and frozen heart, and that solitude isn’t quite as appealing as she once thought was. But Maddy is keeping secrets, and while she initially assumes that Mathias is some dumb, awe-shucks and howdy ma’am Cowboy, she soon discovers he’s a thinker and determined to delve deep into her hidden agenda.

Cowboy Conspiracy Theory by Em Petrova is the third book of the West Protection series. It follows bodyguard Mathias Trace and ice queen Madeline Peerson through their journey to find an ancient artifact that apparently brings soulmates together.
Mathias and Madeline are the definition of opposite attracts. Madeline is ice cold and doesn’t need a man in her life, just a bodyguard to help her retrieve an artifact. While Mathias is a cowboy with the utmost mannerism and can be a charmer.
Another great book by Em Petrova! There is a lot of action in the book with the right amount of romance. I can’t wait to read more of Em’s books.
I think the only thing that bugged me is them having unsanitary oral sex in the wilderness. I personally wouldn’t want anyone near my hoo-ha if I haven’t cleaned it in a while. And the fact that Mathias kept accusing Madeline of hiding things from him. I understand being mad at her for hiding her injuries but I don’t know why her past relationships were relevant to the mission or him when they’ve barely known each other.
Although this book is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone. Written in third person pov with 14 chapters and an epilogue. They also fall in love pretty quick, I believe in a span of a week or so.

Cowboy Conspiracy Theory is book three in the west Protection Series. Two bodyguards from two separate agencies. Mathias is a cousin/investor/bodyguard/rancher for the WEST Protection Agency he actually is much more comfortable working with horses than people any day. Madeline aka Maddy aka Ice Queen who is also a bodyguard and she is top notch in the field and well respected by her team “The Guard” The Elite Bodyguard Service. Madeline decides she needs to hire a bodyguard to watch “her six” she’s going out on a very dangerous mission to find an extremely old/rare artifact worth a lot of money. She has to get to and find the artifact before a man named Tommy Dahl gets to it, and he will do anything in order to get to it. This is a very enjoyable story. Lots of emotions as they journey through trying to locate this rare artifact, all the hurdles and hoops they have to go through and jump over and under to find the artifact. Going through their journey and the road blocks and issues thrown on their path. Story keeps you enthralled from page one with wonderful characters, amazing chemistry, lots of secrets, suspense, danger, lies, stealing, threats all throughout to the very last page. I recommend. The steam level of this book will make you feel like you are reading in a sauna! Things go from cold and stilted to super hot and steamy quickly when Madeline (Maddy) and Mathias trek along a New Mexico trail in search of an artifact and the collector desperate to acquire it. Neither were expecting the heat between them or the feelings that have been taken root in their hearts. Try as she might, Maddy can’t steel her heart against the handsome, grumbly cowboy bodyguard who sets her body aflame. Mathias doesn’t question his feelings, as he has watched several of his cousins fall fast and hard recently. Their mission is to find the artifact before the collector does, but Maddy is keeping secrets, the wealthy collector is putting up plenty of roadblocks in their way, and they have a time limit before the relic could be lost forever. As the danger increases, Mathias becomes determined to claim Maddy for his own, but her secrets, her painful past, and her fierce independence and skills are making the claiming very challenging to say the least.

WEST Protection Agency has a new assignment in store for them of providing a bodyguard for one of the Guard which was an elite group of protectors, we previously met in another series. Mathias Trace was sent to New Mexico to act as a bodyguard for Madeline Peerson or better known as the Ice Queen as they head up a gorge in search of the cave that holds an artifact for soul mate. They need to find the artifact before one of Madeline's enemies does. This enemy was extremely dangerous so they must be on guard at all times. Madeline learned early in the trip that there was a plan to flood the gorge now that the dam was finished. Going was slow as someone rented all the horses leaving them only mules to ride. Someone was jamming the communication systems in the gorge. The more Mathias and Madeline were together the more they wanted each other, but he was ready to paddle Madeline if they ever got out of the gorge a live. This was an a fast moving, action packed story that would keep you up until you finished the book.

While this book is the third book it is actually the fourth book in the series if you count the prequel and while each book including this can be read as a stand alone do yourself a favour and read them all in order as it is a far better read that way. If you are a long time reader of Em's then you will have met Maddy earlier in the guard series now you get her story

Love Those WEST Protection Agency Boys!
I’ve been a big fan of the WEST Protection Agency series by Em Petrova from the beginning. I mean seriously...hot guys who are protective, down-to-earth, and sinfully sexy thrown into dangerous situations with the strong, relatable women (who are as brilliant as they are gorgeous) who steal their hearts? What’s not to love in this scenario? In “Cowboy Conspiracy Theory,” it’s Wynton cousin Mathias’s (the “T” in WEST) turn for his HEA when he is sent to guard Madeline, a member of another elite security team, as she tracks down an artifact with purported mystical properties and goes up against a pretty bad dude to get to it in time. These two seem to be opposites at first glance, but they have an instant attraction and steamy chemistry that is difficult to deny. Opening up to each other is only one obstacle they face on their journey to an HEA, but the aww moments, super-steamy sexy bits, and the bit of intrigue and suspense thrown in make it all worth it! Cannot wait to see which WEST family member is up next! Five stars all over the place, Em Petrova!

I remember Maddy from The Guard series. I was waiting for her book and was happily surprised to see it was a crossover with WEST Protection.
Seems like only Mathias could make the Ice Queen thaw. Chasing after Dahl was a real adventure. There was action, suspense, danger, and deception. I had to shake my head. They were on a life and death mission but had time for a few steamy scenes while camping out. Although they were steamy, the were also suspenseful while I wondered if that was the time Dahl was going to make his appearance.
I admit that I have to go back and read the description of the artifact. I was so caught up in the story and the river, I am not sure I got anything other than the basic description.
I have a strong suspicion that we haven't seen the last of Dahl. I also didn't expect the couple to end up where the did. That was a nice little twist at the end. HEA ruled the day again! Def a 4.5 star read.

'Cowboy Conspiracy Theory' by Em Petrova is third book in her West Protection series and tells the story between Mathias, a bodyguard and cowboy and Madeline, who is hunting for an ancient artifact. She needs a body guard and Mathias is assigned the job. Maddie finds Mathias' 'awe shucks' cowboy swagger annoying. Mathias finds Maddie frustrating but captivating at the same time. Maddie, known as 'Ice Queen' and considered unflappable, just wants to get the job done. However, Mathis is determined to melt her resolve and get to know her softer side better.
Ms. Petrova has written a great addition to her series. From the first page the chemistry between Mathias and Madeline is hot and sizzling. This book is full of suspense, laughs, drama, surprises, kidnapping, romance, great characters, and lots of heat. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to anyone who likes a little bit of cowboy swagger with their HEA.

Mathias always wanted to stay in the background of West Protection, he didn't want to go in the field. Yet he does the training with everyone to be prepared. They need more employees to handle their growing client list. Now they've added one client that's a bit different. Madeline Peerson needs a bodyguard and her own agency can't provide one at the moment and time is of the essence.
Madeline has to get to an artifact before Dahl does, it will disappear forever if he gets there first. Unfortunately they face obstacle after obstacle as they prepare for the trek.
The mules they acquire pose a couple of difficulties for Mathias but they do manage.
The trek is difficult and becomes more dangerous as Madeline realizes Dahl knows exactly where they are and another little tidbit she keeps from Mathias.
Ups and Downs both literally and figuratively as this adventure continues, even as these two cave to their attraction to each other just adding a different sort of sizzle to the weather's heat.

I loved how this had a bit of a cross over with The Guard Series as I flove that series too, Madeline finally has a fix on Dahl someone she and the others The Guard have been keeping an eye out and she needs help to get what he is after prior to Dahl reaching it which leads a phone call and Mathias helping her. Maddy is ice cold to Mathias to beginning with but he slowly cracks away her harsh exterior as well as makes her comfortable to open up more, however it is a bit like pulling hens teeth at times and boy does her stubborn streak work against her every now and then but once you get to know her it helps show why she is the way she is. You get plenty of action, attraction, secrets and danger along with a story that draws you in and has you chewing your lip not only to see if they find the artifact first and survive but will Maddy finally just be open about everything to Mathias instead of keeping things secret and making him distrust her and not want to be with her no matter her feelings!

Is there anything better than two independent, strong leads going head to head in the middle of an action-packed treasure hunt? Mathias was supposed to protect Madeline and that he did as he chipped away at her icy façade. He was attracted to her but her coldness rivaled her beauty… Madeline’s single-focused and all she needed was him to do his job. If she had the same issue – trying to ignore how handsome and sexy he was - well, they would both have to deal….
This series is all about heart, action and steam and this story was a great addition. The heat was crazy hot as these two really likable characters fought each themselves and each other, wrestling with the need to be in control. How they went about it meant different styles – Mathias was the laid back one, revealing his cowboy-ness in the most delicious ways possible… Madeline was strong but didn’t come across as anything but confident and capable, though resisting Mathias proved fruitless in the end. Thank goodness!

Another exciting WEST protection story
This is the third book in the WEST Protection series and it has a little bit of everything - sweet moments, fan your face steam, dangerous heart stopping action, strong family and friendships, and even a few chuckles. Mathias is a rancher but also works with his family with WEST Protection. He’s usually behind the scenes though. Madeline works for the Guard, another protection agency. She’s going after an artifact in the uninhabited part of New Mexico before it is found by a criminal and Mathias is assigned as her bodyguard. As they work together to find the artifact while dodging dangerous criminals and hippies, their feelings for each other continue to grow. I love a book with a sexy alpha hero but I also love one that includes a sexy, smart heroine too rather than a damsel in distress. This book gives us two strong main characters but while I loved Matthias, I had a harder time connecting to Madeline. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

It may sound unusual for a bodyguard to be in need of a bodyguard, but that is the situation that Maddy finds her in. It is imperative that she find an artifact before another person who is know to be after it. WEST Protection is hired but as they are short staffed, Mathias is chosen for the job. Normally he works behind the scenes, but since he receives the same training as the rest of the team, he is fully capable of handling the job. There journey through New Mexico to the suspected location is made all the more challenging when they end up having to go via mule as all the horses have been rented. What follows is a sometimes harrowing experience, other times humorous. Even though she is known as the "Ice Queen", it doesn't take Mathias long to get under her skin and start to thaw her. But will that affect his ability to protect her? Or will their closeness work in their favor?

This is the 3rd book in the WEST Protection series and is a crossover with The Guard. Madeline Peerson works for the Guard and is in search of an artifact that her former ward, Dahl, is also searching for and wants to own. Knowing the history between Madeline and Dahl, Roman insists she has a bodyguard and reaches out to WEST Protection for support. Mathias is given the mission and has heard all about the Ice Queen. I love Em Petrova’s books and each one is entertaining and captivating. This one has a well written storyline with plenty of action, danger, suspense, humor, and plenty of steam between our Hero and Heroine. The characters are strong, independent, sexy as sin and intriguing. I.love this series and can’t wait for more. I highly recommend this book and any of Ms Petrova’s writings.

Having been a fan of both series, I was so happy to see these two brought together. I was also extremely happy that the "ice queen" was going to get her HEA.
I really loved that we finally got to see what made Madeline tick. She has been in many other books and she always came off cold and calculated that it was nice to see her thaw out and find out why she is the way she is and also that she has a soft heart under that exterior.
Mathias was a true cowboy who only wanted to help behind the scenes, however when he is called upon to help another group it put him in the path of Madeline.
Their chemistry was off the charts right from the beginning however it was the banter that was my favorite. You have two very strong personalities trying to work together in some uneasy conditions. Madeline has a hard time taking orders from Mathias which was really fun to read. I especially liked when Mathias would do something intentionally to make Madeline mad just for fun.

I loved this book. When I read The Guard I was disappointed Madeline didn’t get a book, but this was so much better. I absolutely love series cross overs. Mathias and Madeline were the perfect storm for this adventure. Both are more than they seem on the surface and watching them figure out the depth of the other was spectacular. I knew it would take a special man to thaw Madeline, especially after her bad relationship history, and Mathias was the perfect man for her. He was rugged and smart but also incredibly kind with a good sense of humor. Their quest to find the mysterious soulmate artifact was definitely a ride. If it could go wrong for them, it did, but it kept me reading and invested in their story.
This has been my favorite WEST Protection book so far!

As a valued member of the Guard, Maddy is one helluva protector herself, and Mathias finds himself in awe of her many skills.
The action never lets up as Maddy and Mathias head off-trail, battling the elements, the villains, and their undeniable attraction to each other. I loved watching these two match their skills up to make them an unbeatable team, and I adored getting to know their inner hearts as they explore their developing feelings.
I loved reading this adventure romance, and I was pleasantly surprised at the solution they came up with for their HEA. This author never ceases to amaze me with her creativity and wit, and I especially loved the crossover feel of this story as it combined the Guard with WEST Protection. Loving WEST Protection! Madeline and Matthias seem polar opposites; the Ice Queen and the very self-confident cowboy, but, when they work together, they not only make progress on Madeline’s quest for the artifact, but they realize that they have unique chemistry. Madeline is not a very sympathetic character; her reluctance to share information is, at best, arrogant, and, at worst, life-threatening, but there is something about her interactions with Matthias that let you forget that and her “escape” from him is a stroke of genius. You can count on Em Petrova’s writing for a great read, and the addition of some GUARD members, including Madeline herself, really makes this unmissable.

Although “Cowboy Conspiracy Theory” is the third book in the series and characters from the previous books make appearances, it can definitely be read as a standalone. This book packs a lot of punches - small and large. From a cancer diagnosis, friends banding together, a man stepping way out of his comfort zone to help out, beautiful descriptions of awesome countryside, funny elements, lover-to-deadly enemy and finally, of course, client/protector and fellow bodyguards to lovers. And of course the surprising twists and turns. Everything combines to a thoroughly entertaining read. The end is a perfect set-up for the next book in the series and I look forward to it!

This is the third book in the WEST Protection series. This is Mathis and Madeline’s story. You can read and enjoy this book as a standalone. I recommend the series but you won't be lost if you decide to read this one first. If you've read The Guard series, you'll recognize Madeline. Mathias and Madeline's story is hot and steamy. They're explosive together but they're both work a lot, live to far from each other and Madeline is very much against relationships and getting close, they don't call her the Ice Queen for nothing. Mathais and Madeline grow close while he's protecting her in the Arizona desert. Will they be able to make it work or will they walk away from each other.

It seems that the only things that Mathias and Maddy have in common are the mission and the sparks that fly between them. These two could be the definitions of hot and cold, which made for some funny moments. Maddy finds that Mathias is more than surface deep. He discovers that she has passion buried in her soul. I thought that their search made for a really great storyline. The characters opened up inch by inch to reveal their true wants and needs. All of this chemistry had to be dealt with on top of the mystery, danger and other obstacles. The search definitely helped them find their soulmate
