The passionate correspondence of a proud (if concerned) American! From the reign of Bush the First through the hilarious Clinton Years and to the restoration of the Bush Dynasty with Dubya, one lone crusader, Lazlo Toth, has been at work dispensing advice, offering ideas, and launching investigations on your behalf. Now this effort has been collected and presented for instruction to the ages.
While Novello’s silly, needling letters can be reasonably amusing, it is often the replies that really make the comedy. The earnest attempts at understanding, the gentle brush-offs, the oddly on-topic form letters, and the hilariously off-topic form letters - these unwitting replies are the straight men who turn Novello’s act into a duo. While these Toth books aren’t what I’d call hilarious, they are fun and diverting.
This is an amusing collection of letters sent from "Lazlo Toth" (Don Novello) to various companies, politicians, and public figures during the late 1990's to early 2000's. Responses (mostly boring form letters) are also included. Brooke and I read this in the car and enjoyed quite a few laugh-out-loud moments. Since I was doing the reading, Brooke missed out on the spelling and punctuation errors that made some of the funniest touches. So I'd actually recommend this one for personal perusal rather than reading aloud.
Hilarious! I generally don't laugh out loud when I'm reading but this gets to you. As you read the crazy things he says to politicians, businesses, and celebrities, all in the guise of a normal but twisted person, it becomes wildly funny. The responses are form letters, but it's amazing how many actually do respond. I found myself thinking about the staff people reading these letters and not knowing whether they were serious or not, and what to do with them. A really fun romp through recent history by the guy who created Father Guido Sarducci!
A bit of a disappointment. Not nearly as funny as "Letters from Lazlo" or "Citizen Lazlo". Novello seemed to rely more on mispellings for humor in this book than in the hilarious content of his earlier books.
