Some great action plus a few mixed thoughts. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The author has a different take on this type of story. His main character is an extractor. One who goes into danger situations and removes valuable assets to bring them to safety.
This is a great twist on these type of stories and his character comes to the story with major flaws that can cause vulnerability in his job. No body is perfect and Jones set his guy up with multiple issues with his wife and child missing.
Because of that, he’s given a partner. While at first I thought this would cause discontent, they actually got along and worked well together, after a shocking test of of wills. Even some bro hugs along the way.
The story Jones brings us is very fast moving and actually caused a few questions of my own along the way. Jack was blindly trusting other people. Diving in without a plan at all and creating interesting situations to get out of.
Personally, I felt a few areas that some of the flow seemed a bit stilted and felt a little awkward here and there. Nothing to be distressed about, however. It evens out and Jones throws more than a few punches along the way.
Overall, an action packed read with some expected outcomes but also plenty of unexpected twists too. Great first novel for this series!
The Extractor is the first book in author Ethan Jones Jack Storm series - and it is excellent! Jack is sent deep into the bowels of Turkey to try to extract an Iranian asset (a person with Iranian nuclear bomb information who is betraying her country to help the USA) get safely out of war torn Iran. Meanwhile, Jack's family went missing in the beginning of the book and is believed to be lost at sea after a plane crash. Jack will leave no stone unturned until he sees their bodies for himself and is (understandably) a bit unhinged. Almost from start to finish Jack and Riley (his new rookie partner) are fighting for their lives trying to get to the asset and extract her safely. This was an unputdownable book and full of thrilling action as they are shot at, betrayed and running for their lives throughout. Just downloaded books #2-3 and looking forward to reading about Jack's next exciting adventure....

I have read "The Extractor" by Ethan Jones, it's the first book about Jack Storm. This is a new kind of twist in thrillers Jack is an extractor. That means when someone is in trouble or held capture he is the one to get them out. He is also Canadian (which means that he is very nice and well behaved?) It is not often I read something with a main character from Canada. I wonder why. This is almost non stop thrilling action and betrayal. We also get to see some of Denmark, Canada, Turkey and Iran. Our extractor gets around. I got this book as an advance copy and must thank the author @ethanjonesauthor I can really recommend this book and I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
A new series from Ethan Jones. I'm so excited to see what will come next. Jack is an interesting character. His past is shaping his future. He gets paired up with a young operative. Him and Riley are just getting to know each other where's all he'll breaks loose. This story grabs you right at the beginning. Set in and around Iran you know danger lurks around every corner. It was really hard to put this story down. I'm looking forward to the next installment. I hope we will also see more of Riley in future books.
The Extractor Jack Storm #1 by Ethan Jones Love this type of book because I can picture the scenes in my mind as if I am there. Not only are the scenes described in detail but there are also things like the smells which is a sense I use a lot being blind. Would love this as a movie series! So many action packed events that take place. Story starts when Jack was on vacation with his family but the bad guys have found them so he sends his wife and child away and he continues with a mission to get rid of them once and for all. He gets a call that their plane went down.... He brings himself back after he's sold the house and everything that mattered to track down where his family is, to no avail. He returns to the agency he worked for and proceeds to extract one of theirs that is in harms way. Just when you think he will follow directions he has his own mind and uses it, shocks others on the way out the door.... Adventure, bit of romance, travel locations, weapons and tactics and strategic moves are discussed and so much more. Love the call he gets while having dinner about the plane wreckage that was found.... Couldn't put this book down. Ends with a glimpse of the next book in the series.. Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.
This book was so fast paced, I found that I was hardly able to put the book down. I felt I had to keep reading even though my poor dog insisted on eating and going out on her regular schedule. I am a very diverse reader, and I received an advanced copy of this book in return for a honest review. The five stars I gave this book is very justly deserved. A job very well done, Ethan Jones.
The Extractor the clue is in the title this story is about Jack Storm an operative who was working for the CIS the Canadian Intelligent Services and although it starts with Jack he's had bad news so he is moodily depressed don't know what to do with himself does not want to see anybody is on indefinite leave when he gets a phone call, could this be the answer to his prayers? Perhaps he needs to get back in the saddle, and if he passes all his tests he can get back in the saddle. He is an extractor and has been asked to extract human cargo but when the person is in Iran a somewhat precarious country much care is needed, because once in not many get out. Who can he trust? Can Jack manage this assignment? Only time will tell
It exciting and tense read and I have never known this author to disappoint.
A situation had escalated for his team when bullets came flying at their cars They were stronger equipped than he thought, he had to get his team out. A helicopter and a farmers field was a step, when a call came that devastated him. On leave when called in to help, an agent needed to get out, before she was exposed. Questioning is he ready to work again, he’s the best to get the job done. Do they want the person extracted dead or alive. Jack is relentless, hope for life now is his least important thing Great beginning to this series, it’s about family, his job, where life hinges on getting them out.
This was a little different from the usual spy novels I have read. It is about a member of the Canadian Intelligence Service.., There was a lot of action from beginning to end; some of it believable and some not so much. All in all, it is a decent read and I will be reading more from this author.
This is the first book in a new series by one of my favourite authors. A new book is always eagerly anticipated but a new series even more so. This one did not disappoint me at all. The New lead operative Jack is a very troubled man who comes with a heap of problems before even starting his mission to extract an asset and bring her to safety. In this first story we learn a !le about him and follow him through his mission. Believe me when I tell you that from the get go it is a thrilling and nail bighting ride. I hardly came up for air it was so nerve racking and heart pumping and thrill a minute just WOW! definately 5 stars.
Ethan has now expanded his offerings of books based around the Canadian Intelligence Services (CIS). This new series, of which this is book 1, we are introduced to Jack Storm who is an Extractor. That means that Jack is tasked with locating and extracting assets (people) who may have fallen into trouble in unfriendly parts of the world. In this book Jack bringing out a compromised asset who is hiding in Tehran. A part of Jack's plan is to infiltrate Iran through Turkey. Prior to starting the extraction Jack has to prove to the CIS that, due to personal issues, he’s still worthy of being an agent which he does. The plot takes us via Turkey, Iran and Azerbaijan. Along the way as you would expect there are numerous twists and turns until you get to how Jack completes his task. You know he is going to, but it’s the how that keeps you. If he gets caught whilst in Iran then he’ll be treated as a spy and hung. So will Jack cross the border? How is he going to get inside Iran undetected and more importantly get himself and the asset back to safety. This is a very good, up,to date story line that keeps you guessing with unexpected twists and I wholeheartedly recommend it.
“This isn’t about conscience; it’s about survival.”
A hard to put down book! What a beginning! Starting in full gear from page one, to the last one, The Extractor-Jack Storm-is from the same universe of Justin Hall series.
A non-stop, vertiginous layout, the plot thickens wildly, the explosive situation gets more and more riddled. A realistic reminder of the world we live in. It’s gripping and dark sometimes, with an action packed and intriguing storyline, a great villain and an antihero dealing with his own personal problems and a kind of vendetta related to the dangers the protagonist has to go through, a real life drama of an agent with a family. An engaging and poignant story, thought provoking, it carries within an emotional and compelling character development, suspense and cutting edge scenes that seem to spiral out of control, with a wonderful world building.
The story left me with a desire to know more about the world, and what happens next to our hero. A promising and exciting start to a new fantastic series, as all Ethan Jones’s books. Can’t wait to read what the author comes up with next!
This is the first book in the new series by Ethan Jones, the protagonist is Jack, a spy that has come back to the agency after personal tragedy. There is a lot of action in this series that grabs your attention from the first page to the end of the book. Just like the previous books I read by this author, I enjoyed this book. I look forward to the next book in this series. I received this book by the author and I am happy to leave a review.
Extracting an asset out of Iran has Jack in dark and dangerous territory. Alone, broke and wounded he faces evil at every turn. Constant conflict, never-ending betrayal and action aplenty, will keep you glued to the pages in this exceptional book. An outstanding story and Very Highly Recommended.
This book is bursting with action and intrigue which kept me on the edge of my seat. Jack is a ‘one off’ and Riley Booker learnt the hard way to be more careful as to what he says! A brilliant read which I highly recommend. I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
An outstanding start to this new series! Rich well developed characters and a fast-moving story line leaves you breathless and at the edge of your seat. I couldn’t put it down. This thriller grabs you from the first page and doesn’t give you a moments rest until the last page. Don’t start reading this book unless you are fully committed to read it in one sitting.
Thank you to the author who provided me with a copy of this book. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
A Once in a Lifetime Tumultuous Ride -Hang on tight for a new Ethan Jones' series. Jack Storm, a Canadian government extractor, is charged with rescuing an Irani woman, accused of stealing secrets from the Iranian Nuclear program. This novel, the first in the new series, is crammed full with suspense, intrigue, danger, and, of course, a goodly amount of backstabbing, that it leaves the reader's emotions raw and exhausted, yet relieved that Jack survives and will continue his escapades in yet another book in this exciting new series. Ethan Jones at his best, filled with hope and angst, solid characters and thrilling storyline.
First in a new series by possibly my favorite author, Ethan Jones. I was hesitant at first because the other series are fantastic. I shouldnt be surprised! I found the Extractor great. After the first chapter i was totally hooked again. I even liked his partner, Riley. Again another night of a couldnt put down read by Jones. Leaves me to wonder impatiently where Storm will go next. Cant wait. A must read.
Loved the book. Got fully engrossed from start to finish. Could not put it down till I completed the book. Super super book. Would always like to read more books of Ethen Jones.
We first met Jack near the end of Foreign Interception, and I was immediately intrigued. Not unlike the author’s other heroes, Justin and Javin, Jack has a daredevil streak that makes him more than a bit of a loose cannon at times. Though, he’s also a more introspective man as he comes to terms with his personal tragedies and how they affect everything he thinks, feels, and does. I’m hooked now and I badly want to know more, especially to see him finally get the answers he’s so desperately searching for. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.
A fast-paced action story. Jack Storm is a talented extractor (for rescuing operatives from difficult situations) but he is suffering personal loss. He is called back into service for a difficult mission - but is he ready? Add a new young partner and the odds would seem to be stacked against success...
First in a new series featuring Canadian agents. Worth a look - especially if the author is known to you (but you probably don't need that recommendation if that is the case).
Move over 007 - there's a new agent in town! Ethan Jones' latest thriller, The Extractor, begins in Denmark three months earlier, with a tragedy...but who's dead and who's just missing?
Back in Ottawa, Jack undergoes a James Bond/Skyfall-like assessment, to determine if he's ready for a new extraction mission. Jack's paired with a 'rookie' agent, Riley, as a condition for his inclusion in rescuing Bhada, (an informant) from a life-or-death situation. Will they succeed - or die trying?
Jack Storm hunts for assets and ways to complete the 'impossible' missions that other CIA agents shrink from. Impulsive, instinctively ready for trouble and inventive in the ways he gets himself, his asset and his team out of danger...truly a super-agent.
Ethan Jones is the Master of the International Spy-Thriller and you're sure to love The Extractor, his new Jack Hunter series opener - it's a five star, not-to-be-missed, sensation. Grab yourself a copy today!
The Extractor, my twenty-second read from author Ethan Jones, introducing yet another new character & storyline. With every book he writes and each genre (Justin Hall, espionage/thriller or Carrie O'Connor, espionage/thriller or Javin Pierce espionage/thriller or Jennifer Morgan, romantic suspense) he delves into, Ethan Jones continues to polish his craft. Another very good read. I look forward to Jones' next book no matter what the genre. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
I received a copy of this book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
This book is really good. I enjoy good spy stories and this one is right up there with the best I have read. Although Jack Storm is not a spy himself, he is charged with getting people who are, out of dangerous or even deadly situations. And he does it with great aplomb.
His characters are strong, likeable or hateable, (is that a word?), believable and you are drawn into their lives as if they were right there with you. I find his ability to create these wonderful characters exceptional. Jack Storm’s world is realistic and exciting. You hold your breath while he makes decisions on what to do next, will he survive the encounter? This is the kind of story I can get completely lost in, and I most assuredly did.
If you love adventure, danger, action and mystery, you will love this book. Mr. Jones presents his work with as much aplomb as Mr. Storm.
