Temptation After Dark is coming soon – so it’s time to sail away to Gansett Island on the next ferry. You might be lucky enough to meet Seamus O”Grady when you dock! And Ned’s taxi service is always on speed dial -- readily available with sound advice along the route.

A gift basket filled with surprises that tempt, entice and allure awaits your arrival. Plenty of temptations galore – and readers won’t be disappointed with this package of delights.

Marie Force never fails to hit all those feels that are entangled with family, friendship and romance—the spark, the emotional depth, the mental and physical challenges of everyday living — and she’s also created another super couple in Gigi Gibson and Cooper James, who seem perfectly attuned even when there’s conflict. And Cooper starts it off with a bang by “wrecking” their first date. Bet they won’t ever forget it! They are simply irresistible.

You know you’re in for an extra-special treat when old friends and resident islanders from past books stop by with bits of news, gossip and updates on happenings around the island. There’s a lot to unpack in this visit with the new romance, second chances, family gatherings, the economy booming with new business and some surprises that I’ll never tell – my lips are sealed!

Thoroughly entertaining from start to finish. The perfect fun-filled escape from reality. One of my favorite book covers, too! Not kidding when I say that I was hit by the love bug and head-over-heels in a dizzy love haze. This one is fully loaded with pure romance candy.

Before I give my review, I want to start with I've been a fan of this series for years. YEARS. Every book feels like a ferry ride in which you catch up with old friends and meet new islanders in the process. Unfortunately, this ferry ride was not as a hoped it would be. Allow me to explain:

First time reader?
If you're choosing to start this series with this book, do yourself and this series justice, don't. There are twenty-three previous books, this is a series in progress, you will be lost and confused. Plus, this is an amazing series, that should be appreciated from the very beginning. Don't use this book as an introduction.

Main Characters
This has to be the first couple added to the Gansett legacy in which their connection felt incredibly forced. Their connection lacked the natural chemistry the other characters had. Gigi Gibson is a woman who believes that happily ever after does not exist for her. She said it from the beginning and basically throughout the whole book and held strong to this sentiment. Cooper James had his work cut out for him, and trust me when I say, he literally did ALL the work. This sexy, successful woman reluctance to romance and love was very off putting. She was hot and cold. She's loving and standoffish. Honestly, Gigi is the first heroine on Gansett Island that I seriously wanted to slap. I carried this sentiment throughout the whole book. Well, until 92%. Even their "sexy time" lacked the fire that I know this author can deliver. It was actually a little uncomfortable to read.

Repetitive
Remember when I said there are twenty-three previous books? Having to be constantly reminded of how previous characters met was exhausting. Gigi constantly reminding us how tall the fire chief is, was not endearing, it was annoying. Lizzie and Jared's situation? Also on repeat. For a reader who has been faithfully following this series, I felt the repetition was added fluff in this book. This made it that much harder to connect with the book.

Supportive characters
What saved the book was meeting new characters. The setting of the book is summer coming to an end, and the fall season has romance blossoming on this precious island. Previous main characters are now supportive characters and catching up with them felt like the lifeline I needed to get through this story.

I know not every book in this series can be winners. Especially since the previous book, Blackout After Dark, was epically amazing. The book that followed already had a high bar to meet even before chapter one was started. For me, it just didn't get there. I'm not convinced this ended with a happily ever after, but a happy for now.

Despite me not loving this specific book, I still look forward to the upcoming book.

4.5⭐

I adore this series and honestly enjoy every visit back to Gansett Island and this return trip was no different. As Coop and Gigi were a lovely couple, and their romance certainly charmed me, although not my favourite of the 24. But then there have been some stand out ones that will always be hard to beat. But that didn't stop me being thoroughly entertained and I adored catching up with so many characters who've come to feel like friends.

And this story had such a warmth to it, I couldn't help but smile and genuinely feel better by reading it. Plus, its made me want to go back and read all of them again, and I can't wait for book 25. I also loved the party of seven short story at the end. 😊

Would happily recommend.

Temptation After Dark is Gigi and Cooper’s story. This a fun couple. Gigi is very independent and believes she doesn’t need or want someone to love. Cooper is a serial dater until he meets Gigi. He has huge walls to knock down and does a fantastic job of winning Gigi heart, eventually. This is also a continuation of Jared and Lizzie’s story. Woven in the story, without distracting, are new and old friends and family from past books with updates on life on the island. Full of emotions and everyday life. I was entertained throughout and loved catching up with all the characters whom I’ve come to know and love.

As with most Gansett Island books there is more than one story occurring in this one. The sort of main story is the romance between a very reluctant Gabrielle “Gigi” Gibson, BFF to Jordan and Nikki Stokes, (who both have their own books) co-star with Jordan on their top rated cable television show and attorney at law in her spare time and Cooper James, much younger brother of billionaire Jared James (he and Lizzie only rated a novella) and Dr. Quinn James (he and Mallory got their own story) a recent graduate of N.Y.U. with an MBA. Gigi is on Gansett Island to film the next season of her and Jordan’s show since Jordan insisted it was the only way she’d agree to return for another season. Cooper with his newly minted MBA is on the island for Quinn and Mallory’s wedding and to try and sell the business plan he developed in grad. school to hopeful Island investors.
The book’s secondary story picks up where the last book Blackout After Dark ended with Jared and Lizzie literally holding a newborn baby that its mother Jessie thrust into Lizzie’s arms in the middle of Quinn and Mallory’s wedding before she ran out and off of the island before anyone could stop her. Lizzie had attempted to help Jessie a young single mom who seemed to have no one and no clue about mothering a newborn get her feet under her. Lizzie and Jared had been trying to make a baby and after 3 failed rounds of IVF treatments they were beginning to lose hope it would ever happen for them. Jared is terrified that his beautiful and caring wife will become so attached to the newborn left in her care only to have her heart shattered when her mother realizes her mistake and comes back to claim her. If that wasn’t enough to shake up the wedding Mallory’s sister-in-law Maddie who is 8 months pregnant with twins goes into labor and has to be medevacked out to the mainland on a helicopter.
Cooper despite his very privileged background is amazingly grounded and mature for an almost 25-year-old guy who has just left the cloistered halls of academia. Maybe it’s being the youngest sibling in a family full of very accomplished brothers? Right from the beginning of this story the author tells us how handsome, charming and attractive Cooper has been to the opposite sex for his entire life. His family nicknamed him “The Honey Pot.” Gigi Gibson has been Cooper’s “hall pass” as he calls her (which is a bit odd since he’s never been in a serious relationship so why would he need a hall pass?) When he sees a beautiful blonde in a skimpy white bikini swimming laps in his brother’s pool he’s shocked to discover when she rises out of the pool like Aphrodite that the beauty is his own personal wet dream Gigi Gibson. He asks her out that night and she shockingly agrees. Unfortunately the evening goes every wrong for Cooper when he injures himself trying to prevent Jared’s prized Porsche from going over the cliffs. Gigi even shocks herself when she follows the ambulance to the island clinic and holds Cooper’s hand while he’s being treated for his injuries. Their relationship slowly progresses from there.
So here’s the skinny on this story. Cooper quickly realizes that Gigi is the woman he is meant to spend his life with and puts on a full court press to win her over. Gigi is a self-made woman with a very sad background that despite her bravado has left her believing she is unworthy of being loved. The only three people she’s allowed into her inner circle and completely trusts are Jordan, Nikki and their grandmother Evelynn whom she’s known since she was a young. They are her adopted family of the heart and she would do anything for them while not allowing them to do the same for her. She fights her emerging and unfamiliar feelings for Cooper who frightens her because he can see right down to her soul and makes her feel things she doesn’t want to feel, with everything she has. An intervention by Jordan and Nikki can’t convince her to lay her fears aside and give Cooper a real chance. Nor can a heart to heart with Chloe who came from a similar background and had to fight similar fears to let Finn into her heart. Honestly, if I didn’t know their story would end with them being together I would have sworn at this point that Gigi was a hopeless cause. While Gigi and Cooper’s drama is playing out Lizzie and Jared are on pins and needles while their investigator tries to find the baby’s runaway mother and convince her to give them legal custody of their baby. Mac and Maddie are in Providence while their newborn premmies grow strong enough to bring home to the island. Maddie seems to love reminding Mac that he’s not getting near her again until he gets his thing snipped. The Watkins, the couple who in the previous book came to the island to work as the lighthouse keepers while they try to put their lives and marriage back together after they lost their 3 year old son in a terrible accident finally are connected to Syd who had lost her first husband and 2 young children in a car accident a few years ago only to return to the island and be reunited with her first love Luke Harris whom she’s now married to and has a baby girl with. Syd helps the wife see it is possible to move on with her life and even have another child. While all of that is happening Cindy Lawry, daughter of Sarah and younger sister of Owen, Katie and Julia Lawry (they each have their own books) meets Jace a new bartender at the Beachcomber replacing Chelsea Rose McCarthy who is out on indefinite maternity leave. The same Jace that is the newly introduced biological father of the two young boys Seamus and Carolina adopted after their young single mother Lisa died of lung cancer. Is Jace’s presence on the island a threat to Seamus’s new family? How will Cindy’s family react to a relationship between her and the somewhat older Jace with his checkered background? FYI that’s the story in Resilience After Dark, the next book in this series. All in all as much as Gigi frustrated the hell out of me as she did her friends as perhaps the most romance reluctant heroine in contemporary romance history, I still found this an entertaining book.

We first met Cooper and Gigi start of their adventure/love affair in "Blackout after dark book 21.Cooper has come to Gansett to spend some time with his brother Jared and Gigi is filming her reality tv show with Jordan(whom we met in Rescue after dark book 22)
Cooper nickname from his family is honey pot meaning woman have always been drawn to him and he has never had any intention of settling down. Gabrielle or Gigi as she is called is quite happy with having Jordan Niki and their grandmother Evelyn has her family and is not interested in happily everafter or so she thinks. Although the theme of this book is Gigi and Cooper I have to say I enjoyed more having updates on previous couples and their current issues that have arise. The storyline of Coopers brother Jared and his wife Lizzie taking care of an abandon baby and hoping they get to keep her, Mac and Maddie having their twin girls etc. I truly enjoy and hopefully this new format Ms. Force will continue to use for this series.

I am really sad to say this visit to Gansett made me feel very underwhelmed. Cooper was carrying the heavy load through this book. Gigi unfortunately fell really flat for me.

I found myself happier with the glimpses of the other residents.

While I understand that each book invites new folks to be able to pick up a story on the later series… I wish it wasn’t re-explained each plot line for those past stories. Those of us that are caught up( and honestly at book 24 most people reading at this point know they major players and their stories) really don’t need the same explanations. At what point in a really large series are you to assume the reader is caught up to the current books???

Also I felt a lot of the book was repetitive. A lot.

There were lots of folks who loved this book, this one just wasn’t made for me.

I will await the next ferry. Not all trips are great but I’m still ready to visit again.

Fans of Gansett Island... This is your next happy place 💘💘💘💘

This series never gets old for me. I guess I'd attribute that to good writing and wonderful characters, and Temptation After Dark is no exception. This book gives us more into the lives and loves of the delightful James brothers, and is another enjoyable visit to the magical island of Gansett. I love that although each book centers around one couple, previous characters play a big part, with their stories continuing as well.

So often I read a book, even one that's good, and a week later I can hardly remember the story. Not so with this series. I'm able to read the next book, even months after having finished the last, and get right back into the story again. 👏💘

If you're a Gansett Island Series fan, this is your next happy place.

delightful

I always love visiting Gansett Island and all of the residents. It’s like a big hug. Jared’s brother has shown up and he is adorable. Once he set his sights on sassy pants Gigi, he was all in. They might have had the best first day ever.

While I enjoyed their story for the most part, as it moved along, Gigi became exhausting with her constant whiny inner monologue. I actually started skimming over her blathering and was more interested in Jared and Lizzie’s story.

Not my favorite in the series but worth a read if you are a fan of this series.

Not your best

The book was very average. I think you should have kept writing Treading waters. Gansett storyline is being stretched. I thought the finger in her ass was TOO much, one of my big disappoints in your books has been the heavy sex, and now in this book I thought the "F" word was used too much.
I have become very disappointed in your books accept the Miami series is fresh.

I love Marie's Gansett series. I usually give 5 stars, but this wasn't my favorite couple. I liked Cooper more than Gigi. While reading this series you get to catch up with characters that you have fallen in love with from previous books. I love getting glimpses of their lives after we have read their story. Dual point of view. No cliffhanger.

From the first line, I was irritated. The author uses a rather cool tone, which I´m not used to from Marie Force. The two main characters experience a memorable date right from the first pages, from which some pretty good dialogues and other scenes develop. But the rest of the novel is too predictable, has no surprises, and is teeming with characters who fluff the book extremely with their side stories. Both in terms of the number of pages and their content. Less would definitely have been more here.

At times I felt like the focus was on everything else but Cooper and Gigi, the two protagonists. Especially since many of the couples who appeared either only had one appearance or maybe even a second or third one. But they made little sense to me. And at some point, I finally had the impression that this was about the population of an island and not about the two main characters.

Aside from the fact that there are tons of characters here, there was one that I just found brilliant. Evelyn, Gig´s quasi-grandmother. This woman is absolutely awesome. Her attitude, both physically and mentally, is just great. She provides help where it is needed, makes her counterpart think, and makes it clear in just the right amount what is important to her and where the fun ends. I would have liked to see more of her in this novel.

I would have loved to have liked this novel, but unfortunately, I didn´t. Either my expectations were way too high or the author simply couldn´t develop her otherwise great level, which I know from the Green Mountain Lost in Love series. This novel is not suitable as an introduction to the Gansett Island series, for those who do not yet know this series. Instead, grab the first volume and read chronologically. Too bad, just too bad.

Back to Gansett we go for Gigi and Cooper's story! These two are fun together and well when a selfie goes wrong it's all uphill from there. Gigi hasn't had an easy life, she is fiercely independent and doesn't need someone to love or to love her. Or so she thinks, enter one Cooper James who is a few years younger than she is. He is a ladies' man, a serial dater if you will but when he meets Gigi, all bets are off. Cooper will not have an easy time of it as he tries to break through Gigi's walls. He is just the man for the challenge though as even her best friends Nikki and Jordan are on Team Cooper's side.

Ms. Force packs an emotional punch in this story as we catch up with Lizzie and Jared as they are left with an abandoned baby. We also catch up with the new light housekeepers and get to see a bit more of Jordan and Nikki. Gansett Island is growing and I don't know how Ms. Force keeps up with all pregnancies, drama, and day-to-day life with so many wonderful characters. She isn't afraid to change things up a bit to keep it from getting stale. I can't wait to see what is next in this series and I hope to keep revisiting Gansett Island for a long time to come.
