Noelle Burrier is a girl with many secrets. She’s a hard dedicated worker, a loyal friend, and a woman down on her luck. However, her biggest hurdle in life is her, pride. She can't seem to allow or ask, others for help. Instead, when a string of unfortunate events, one after another pile-up, and leave her bank account dry and her spirits the same way, she pushes on. She does, however, end up on the streets in her car, and sleeping on the floor, of the ice rink. But, let someone around her need help or money, and she will be right there seeing what she can sell, left in her car.
She’s close to one person, who she reveals all and that is, Connie, her best friend. That is until, Connie met her worthless fiancee, Craig. He got laid off when he hurt his back, and now he doesn't help her with anything. He’s a waste of space. Noelle is her saving grace most of the time but lately, Craig and, Noelle are oil and vinegar. After closing up the rink, Noelle took her shower. She paused getting dressed when she, smelled a strong odor of smoke. Noelle worried about what could have caused it, she dressed quickly and headed toward the rink. And boom, the smoke was thick already.
She ran back and grabbed her sparse belongings, her duffel bag, and phone. And headed in the opposite direction, to one of the emergency exits. Getting ready to call their maintenance man, Dwayne. Things breaking in the rink was a normal occurrence so, Noelle wasn’t in a panic, yet. But, when the door opened she was assaulted by the cold, a strong odor of smoke, the lights, and people talking. Then, they said, they were glad to see her safe. Dwayne was already, on sight. Even though he looked relieved to see her, even though he must know her secret. The look was, “GURL, you scared me!”
That's when a gorgeous man, Remy Knight advanced on them to ask if this was the woman, everyone was looking for. He introduced himself and then stated that he would like to meet with staff the day after tomorrow at noon. To talk about the rink. “Not happening,” Noelle tells him. She tells him straight up, “Most of your employees are teens so, they’re in school.” He asks, “When do you suggest?” She says, “Not sure. We have never had one before, at least not in the five years she had been there.” He looked stumped. He had his work cut out for him, and, Noelle is the one who knows all. Or most.
This is where I should tell you poor, Remy along with his two younger brothers, inherited the arena. They all remember hearing about, Garland Grove from their father. None liked or talked to him at the end. And he wasn’t a nostalgic man, except for that place. There is a tale told in, Garland Grove, that everyone who skates on the outdoor rink during, the holiday season falls in love. Explore the town through the eyes of an adult, Remy as he gets small snippets of memory that surface, of the days he skated there. The rink means more than he lets on, it’s where he learned how to skate. You will catch the feels with this book. It has sadness, romance, laughter, tension, and more.
