Ben, Emma, Nate, and Mia – four friends determined to film the paranormal in the creepy town of Darkhill. They call themselves DARKSEEKERS. Some say that a mysterious witch appears during storms and is struck multiple times by lightning, cackling with laughter throughout. Of course, the story is nonsense. Or is it? When storms ravage the creepy town of Darkhill, the four young Darkseekers head out into the rain one dark night on a mission to find the elusive figure. Can she really soak up the lightning the way people claim? If so... why ? The friends don't have to stand around waiting for long. It seems half the town is on her trail, and when she appears, it's a breathtaking moment for all. And that turns out to be a serious problem, because she's literally taking their breaths away... Written by the author of the Island of Fog series, STORM WITCH is the third case for the intrepid investigators in this supernatural series. With this book, the perspective switches from Ben to Emma. This is something that I ordinarily would not mind, but for some reason, I didn't like her narration as well. There were also 'jokes' or 'gags' that felt forced or were extended for too long. Furthermore, the use of a in this book could have been intriguing, but, while still fantastical, the concept and consequences were too close to reality. Also, there is too little reaction to the seriousness of how the town, especially Emma, was affected. Maybe this will be addressed in subsequent books, but in all honesty, I'd rather just move on and pretend the events of this book didn't happen. However, I do like the respect with which parents are treated in this series, and in this one, finally, they get involved.
A wonderful series that I'm reading to my fifth graders. They are loving it. They read the first book in a small group, and we are now reading the second. This third one is excellent, and I hear that a fourth is on the way!
Another case for the darkseekers and another case for me to get all the investigation knowledge of it. The plot was certainly good, along with the characters as well. Was not expecting that ending at all but it definately had me hooked from the start. Now onto the next case.
