Every Kashmiri Hindu credit Jagmohan for their saving their life. This book is highly recommended if you want to know about Exodus of Kashmiri Hindus. Lots of Hindus were raped, looted, murdered in the name of Jihad. Its horrifying to know that they were Kashmir Hindus friends, colleagues, neighbors who betrayed them.
This book presents the story of the Kashmiri Hindu Genocide & events leading up to it, in as factual a manner as is possible. Primarily because Mr. Jagmohan was there, in an administrative role at the time. But the book goes beyond that as it tracks in great detail the history of Kashmir & the many invasions & the Hindu genocides it has been a witness to.
This book is not an easy read, especially if you are a Kashmiri Pandit in exile, but history must always be remembered, no matter how piercingly excruciating it is. This book does a great job of presenting the truth before your eyes. 5 stars.
My Frozen Turbulence in Kashmir: Jagmohan- Mr Jagmohan had two tenures in J&K as Governor / Administrator- April 1984 to July 1989 and again from Jan to May 1990 when he was ousted and forced to resign by political parties. I find the following description of work done to tone up administration in the militancy prone state of J&K- (1) constitution of Shrine Board- At Vaishno Devi Temple about 10 lakh pilgrims visit each year. Newly constituted Shrine Board maintains the infrastructure properly aiding comfort to pilgrims. (2) Control over corruption- Under Article 370 Indian laws like wealth tax, Urban Land Ceiling Act, gift tax etc are not applicable to transactions in J&K thus renewal of lease of Nedous Hotel, Santur Hotel were done at minimum possible premium. Mr Jagmohan tried to impose all laws strictly and control corruption. (3) General Administration was strict and people avowed faith in administration. (4) Government counsel and pleaders did not file proper complaints on proper prescribed forms. He ensured that in all criminal complaints the Government case was reasonably represented. The books reveals a lot of inside story. It is worth reading for all age readers.
Trying to potray history that never took place. The bloodshed he caused is being misplaced on circumstances and a complete and total misrepresentation of history
An excellent book to understand the disputes of Kashmir and what preceded to that unfortunate day of January 19, 1989. Ex-governor Jagmohan has detailed how we almost lost Kashmir, how at tax payers expense Kashmiri separatist enjoyed lavish life and how Pakistan nurtured hate in Kashmiris toward their Hindu brethren. And still the world looked away, turned a blind eye to persecution to this day. Everyone must read this book to understand modus operandi of Islamists and how India lost 25% of her land in creating Pakistan and Bangladesh and still the problem persists.
I rarely read such long reads. But 770 Pages crafted in such detailed manner, it keeps one hooked. Slightly repetitive, but every bit worth the effort. It gives new meaning & my quest to understand the Kashmir problem does end with this Magnum Opus.
I read it as part of a book club on Kashmir #KaeshirKitaab. Because of the volume of the book, we choose a subset of chapters to read. The book is purely informational and important. Stating facts and desperation of events learning to the Kashmiri Pandits Exodus in 1990. I wish it was in electronic form to make it easy to lookup keywords. This book helped solidify my political opinion. The author is a factual writer - it's a difficult read in many places with lots of details, important nevertheless.
A curious and fascinating book. The mononymic Jagmohan had a reputation for prolixity and for being a man of action, and both are clearly well deserved. The book is written in an eccentric and personalized style, but is nevertheless a work of authoritative gravity. The author draws upon not only his own extensive experience with Kashmir but also his careful study of the tumultuous history of the region. His frustration with the half-measures taken by successive government administrations is obviously genuine, as is his pain over the terrible fate suffered by the Kashmiri Pandit community. Taken as a whole, this weighty tome seems to confirm the impression that the abrogation of Article 370 was both long overdue and a decision that required significant political courage. Though Jagmohan may have passed away, it would seem that his spirit is currently alive and well in the halls of power in India.
Totally biased towards Muslim community of Kashmir . Too many flaws & lies as author orchestrated the killing of Muslims & enticed the minority to flee in order to kill majority openly .
