Craig Edmonds and his young family are awoken at 2 AM by someone banging at their front door. On their doorstep they find an unexpected delivery… a large crate with a generic label addressed to his family.

Their remote house, the lateness of the hour, the unexpectedness of the delivery… something feels wrong to Craig, a sheriff in the high desert of southern Utah. It has taken him years to recover from the psychological trauma he’d undergone as an elite Marine sniper, but his life was now simple and complete.

But then he opens the crate to discover an intricately carved wooden mirror. Now Craig must fight an enemy far worse than any he’d encountered in the Middle East. Only this time he is battling against time and the embodiment of evil in a desperate attempt to save his family. His mission will take him twenty five years into the past and six thousand miles from home in order to defeat the reanimation of a 16th century English witch in this spine-chilling time travelling horror.

Meet The Edmonds family, people who have never watched or read any mirror related scary stories. They live in nowhere Utah, don’t use locks (or sound judgement) and apparently that relaxed lifestyle had made them into the kind of people who will comfortably accept an anonymous gift of a giant antique mirror delivered mysteriously at 2 am and immediately and unsuspiciously will hang it on their wall.
Seriously people? It’s like you’re asking to be horrorfied (not the same as horrified no matter what Word says). Mind you, they stick right by their new decoration despite increasingly creepy occurrences following its arrival.
Sure enough, it’s no ordinary mirror sent by their antique loving aunt as a random gift through some sort of nighttime UPS. In fact, it’s a portal for a witch from 1700s who’s really into immortality. Now The Edmonds family has really stepped into it and will require the assistance of a knowledgeable Native American gentleman with time traveling skills to sort it out. And, of course, Craig’s sniper skills will help too. Because it’s/he’s just all American like that. A sniper turned sheriff turned witch slayer. Woohoo, go Craig.
And that’s basically it. A bunch of genre basics thrown in together, thoroughly stirred and cooked reasonably well. Made for a quick fun read. Appears to be primed for series’ first. This was my first read by the author and it’s a fairly decent introduction as far as those things go. Thanks Netgalley.

This was a good story. I really cared about the main character and his family and Ahote was also a fabulous character. Can't wait to read more from this author.

‘Legacy,’ by Chris Coppel, is a mind-bending, edge-of-your-seat page-turner that blends sci-fi, fantasy, and horror with a refreshing, unique premise.

The novel begins when Craig Edwards, stirred awake by a loud knocking, discovers a mysterious package sitting outside his front door. Inside the crate, the former sniper-turned-small-town-sheriff finds an antique mirror that holds a centuries-old secret. What follows is a twist-laden tale of good vs. evil pitting a reluctant, time-traveling everyman against a maniacal 16th-century witch bent on evil and revenge.

For fans of Coppel’s previous novel, 2020’s ‘The Lodge,’ ‘Legacy’ offers more of the author’s trademark tightly-wound prose. The California-based author writes with an admirable sense of efficiency, doling out scene-stopping action and bursts of wit-laced prose with impressive ease. While I often roll my eyes whenever ‘time-travel’ comes into play while reading, unable to muster the required suspension of disbelief, in this instance, Coppel skillfully utilizes this element.

While ‘Legacy’ is probably better classified as a novella, the story reaches a natural, albeit, abrupt conclusion that completely works. As a reader, I always appreciate it when an author chooses to resist the temptation to ‘inflate’ a tight, self-contained idea, and in this regard, ‘Legacy’ is a win.

From the pacing to the plot to the handful of truly ‘wtf’ moments, ‘Legacy’ is an exercise in genre-busting. For fans of provocative, nightmare-inducing fiction in the vein of Tim Clare’s ‘The Ice House,’ ‘Legacy’ is highly recommended.

When I began this book I quickly realised it was not one to read just before falling asleep! It is such a good mix of mystery, horror, fantasy and thriller. I found my heart beating fast from about page three and it didn't stop ... not even at the end! I am not a fan of horror but this was not gruesome in a way the genre often is, rather horrifying.

When Craig and his family take delivery of a strange mirror it is the beginning for a race against time to save his family and defeat the darkness bound up in in. The story takes on such a sinister shift very early on and without giving any spoilers, you will not be disappointed if you like being held on the edge of your seat. Witchcraft and post war PTSD walk hand in hand as does time travel and a bouncy, charming family dog. All is done with skill so that you are never left pondering on the believability of it all, (although the book flies at such a pace, you wouldn't have to time to ponder if you wanted!). I loved the thread running through with a back story of the main character which really added so much depth.

My only disappointment with the book was that I reached the end (which has a marvellous twist leaving you wanting a further instalment) far too quickly. It is quite a short read, however it packs a punch! I will be looking out for any future books by Chris Coppel.

Chris Coppel’s novel Legacy is clearly primed to be a series. In this first book, the groundwork is set for the lead protagonist, Craig Edmonds, to be the Lone Ranger to Ahote’s Tonto, as they skip through time and different dimensions to tackle monsters.

The writing is utilitarian: “She was in her late twenties and was taller than she ever hoped to be. She watched her calories and kept active to make sure she didn’t add to her volume by putting on any unneeded weight.” Coppel doesn’t do his characters any favours by the blatant, sexist stereotypes employed throughout: “As I walked back into the living room, I looked at the mirror for some reason.” “That would be because you’re a woman,” Craig jibed.”

Add to this, any woman that’s duped into forgiveness by “a full-size coconut and salted caramel sponge cake” is pretty thin on the stuff that matters. This is made more repulsive for female readers when her kids are cognisant that she’s being bought off: “I knew Mommy was mad so I hoped really hard you’d go to Honey’s.” Despite the relationship currency of cake, there’s also plenty of fat shaming in this book: “I don’t want you turning into one of those men I see in the St George Costco. I’m warning you now. The day you come home with stretchy pants and a gut, I’m outa here.”

The military descriptions of sniping, including the wilful murders of children by American soldiers in countries like Afghanistan, are obviously the author’s forte, as the descriptions here are better than the rest of the book. Shame about the topic area: “Though not ideal, if his shot was approved and the cell user was a young girl, the shot was still taken. If the next convoy passed his rooftop location without being blown apart, it was considered a good kill. Luckily his resulting (and well deserved) PTSD helps Craig turn his skills from murdering Afghan women and kids to shooting monsters.

The novel’s plot is basically a collection of the usual tropes, strung together in predictable ways: “fly six thousand miles, shoot a witch before she steals a dead woman’s soul, then fly back again and return to my present day.” Legacy does the job but feels more like an action screenplay than a nuanced novel. The nuts and bolts are there but artistry is lacking.

With thanks to NetGalley and Matador for sending me a copy to read.

When the Edmonds family receives a mysterious parcel in the early hours of the morning they are surprised to find an old carved mirror with no suggestion who sent it. Soon mysterious happenings start with accidents occurring and crazy animals appearing. To solve this Craig Edmonds, father of two and former sniper Marine must go back twenty-five years to get to the bottom of this strange mirror.

Legacy is an intriguing and riveting read. It's very easy to devour this book because it's a fascinating concept that keeps you reading to find out more.

It is a shorter novel but it holds its own. The plot is explored thoroughly which makes the length of the book negligible as you don't feel as though you've missed out on anything. However, the ending did seem a little rushed. I think the intention was to leave it on a cliffhanger for a possible sequel. Well understandable, the ending does come off as sudden and unexpected and I did find myself wanting a couple of details explained.

Legacy is mysterious, chilling, and entertaining. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys lighter horror and suspense with a healthy dose of mystery.

I really enjoyed "Legacy" by Chris Coppel. It mixed multiple genres, like science fiction and horror, and kept me on the edge of my seat. I found it hard to put the book down, as I wanted to see what would happen next.

The story begins by introducing the main character, Craig Edmonds, a sheriff in southern Utah, and his family, who is awoken at 2 am by a loud knocking at his door. When he reaches the door, a strange package was left there and a truck is seen leaving the property. Thus ensues a strange adventure that Edmonds was not ready for. With time travel, mystery, lore, witches, and more, this book was a very interesting read.

I enjoyed how Coppel gave description to all the characters and the settings, even bringing a backstory to Edmonds that was very interesting and made him more real. This was a great read and introduced a lot of my favorite genres into one book. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes science fiction, time travel, mystery, and a little horror.

I was immediately drawn into this novel, with its thoughtful character work and intriguing set-up. I don't often have a lot of time to read these days, but this story really pulled me in. I love reading works by screenwriters because I feel like they really understand how to tell a story - plot, characters, pacing, the whole deal. This one did not disappoint!

Oh dear. I’m not even sure how to describe this genre mix here, it tried for horror, it tried for sci-fi, it mostly succeeds in being a testosterone fueled half-baked rehash of every stereotype and trope in the history of books. There are better reads out there.

I want to thank the publisher for giving me the chance to review this arc.

Okay, so I didn't like this book all that much. Going through the rating scale I now use for all of my own reviews here's why.

Characters: The characters were likable enough. But I could not get past the fact that a box arrives at a Deputy's (former military) house at 2 o'clock in the morning, and they just bring it it. They leave it in the house while they go back to sleep. Why didn't they leave the massive package outside? Why did they have to bring it inside especially since they weren't going to open it till later? How can you trust an unknown package delivered at 2 o'clock in the morning. The characters kept doing these things that I felt were not very logical. Also I don't know how to feel about the main guide for Craig the protagonist being a indigenous man, when Mr. Coppel is not of that indigenous tribe.

Atmosphere: I felt like this was a strong point because the feeling of being out in the middle of nowhere was done well, but it could've been a little better. The change into 1996 wasn't as huge of a shift as I feel like it might should have been though.

Writing: The writing was okay. The mix of sci-fi, horror, and mythology didn't work for me. The chapters explaining Craig's backstory were completely unnecessary by the end of the book. If you had only given me the part about Craig's parents dying, that would have been enough.

Plot: I felt the plot was a little all over the place. We were following this family for most of it, getting some information about Craig's backstory that was not needed. Then suddenly we're time travelling to 1996, and there's this whole organization of people who kill these monsters that seem to be from indigenous folklore because surprise in the end an Australian girl scout tribe of Australian indigenous people go missing. Definitely wanting to make a series out of this it seems.

Intrigue: I was intrigued by mainly the mythology of the creature, but there wasn't hardly anything surrounding the mythology. After doing my own research into Hopi culture, there seemed to be some things that I felt like should have been included when talking about Hopi mythology and beliefs. Again, I don't know if this is a good representation of the Hopi culture nor is it my place to say yes or no.

Logic: Everything to do with Craig's background seemed very logical. I wish there was more explanation to the time walkers and what the legends in Hopi Culture say about time walkers. The part in the beginning about them bringing in the box was pretty illogical and for a man like Craig, I don't see how he would've done that.

Enjoyment: All in all, I was enjoying it until the author brought in indigenous people's mythology so heavily like that since I was aware that the author was a white man. The chapters about Craig's backstory were not enjoyable especially knowing they really had no impact on the story by in large. There were some decisions that were not logical and bothered me the entire book. I gave it an extra point though because the cute puppy, Steeler, survived the entire book.

In Legacy, we're introduced to a sheriff's deputy and his family who've received an unexpected package in the middle of the night and soon face equally unexpected consequences for accepting it. On the face of things, this is a novel about the supernatural but I'd actually say this ends up being more of an adventure or thriller novel with supernatural elements mixed in for good measure. One might be able to call it a blend of the classic House horror film from the eighties and the equally campy Trancers series of the nineties featuring Jack Death only with the intent to tackle supernatural intruders from other worlds via time jumps. Fans of either of these film series may find a nice little b movie read in this book. Personally, I felt like there was still some work to do.

This story and its presentation have some solid points and a validly unique premise to work with but I think this one, the first in an intended series of books about our hero, really needed more time to percolate before it went into the cup. There are some grammar issues off and on and the narrative isn't always smooth, but I think the larger problems lie with the story. It's a bit all over between discussions of trauma that are in turns either very stark or very detached and often feel unused for character development or establishing. Not only are these trauma points suddenly dropped in our laps, but we're also just as suddenly jerked back to the main narrative without the two being fully connected. There are some really loose characterizations for everyone besides Craig, leaving most of the characters two-dimensional at best particularly because there is so much telling going on for parts of the story when we should be shown instead. Several points occur where gender stereotypes or cultural depictions interrupt our connection to these other characters too, up to an I including both Ahote, a magical Indian, and Craig's wife, Jenny. I have to be honest and say that these things detracted enough from the story that I wasn't able to fully enjoy it. I hope the author is able to work out some improvements with his novel and later installments of the series before he goes forward, there is some real promise and unique ideas here.

Overall I enjoyed this novel. The premise drew me in when I read the book summary on Amazon, and I thought the author did a creditable job of handling the inevitable plot holes that arise when one is dealing with the oft debated subject of time travel. Of course, none of those holes can ever be completely filled, but that has never prevented time travel stories, whether in book or movie form, from being accepted by audiences who are willing to suspend their disbelief and simply enjoy the ride.

The pacing is good and keeps the reader turning the pages. The protagonist's back story was interesting and well-written, and did much to explain his present day frame of mind, motivation and career choice. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the other characters which, for me at least, is where the story ran in to a little trouble. I was particularly disappointed by the fact that the antagonist, a soul-sucking witch, was given so little back story. Almost everything we discover about her is done through exposition during the course of the book. I wanted more from her point of view. What drove her to become the evil entity she became? Was it seeing those of her kind being drowned or burned at the stake? Was she actually innocent of any wrongdoing and thus felt unjustly victimized? As it was, I knew virtually nothing about her save for what I was told by other characters. As a result, I didn't feel her angst, her fury, her desperation as she sought to maintain the twisted immortality she had attained. Having a more fully-formed antagonist would, in my opinion, have made this a far better book than it already is.

In general, there was altogether too much telling and far too little showing, which made the book sometimes read like a first draft. There are some genuinely creepy events as the story unfolds that could have been made more so by having us actually feel what the protagonist was feeling as opposed to merely being told what he was feeling.

As I said at the start of my review, I enjoyed this novel, but I also felt it was a missed opportunity. With a little more work it could have been a great novel, deserving of a four or five-star rating instead of the three stars I gave it.

With his novel “Legacy”, Chris Coppel once again hits one out of the park. This book is a real page-turner and I didn’t want to put it down. It is unusual to talk about the end of a book at the beginning of the review...but...the book ends with an epilogue in which is the perfect setup for a sequel. I have no idea what Mr. Cooper’s intentions are but I would love a sequel. The characters and story are that good.

Craig and Jenny Edmonds live on a nice piece of land, in an old house just outside of Kanab, a town in Southern Utah. They have two preschool children Tim and Sally plus a 120-pound energetic yellow lab named Steeler. Craig is an ex-Marine deputy sheriff and Jenny runs an online graphic arts business from home.

The nonstop pounding on the front door woke the whole house in the middle of the night. Craig got to the door just in time to see the tail lights of an old pickup driving away. He also saw an enormous wooden crate addressed to the Edmonds family, no street address. He and Jenny bring the heavy crate inside and decide to open it in the morning. Carefully wrapped inside the crate is a very large, very old mirror in an intricate wooden frame, they have no idea who sent it or why. Because it was addressed to them they decide to keep it and hang it on a wall in their living room. Steeler is immediately spooked by the mirror and won’t go near it.

Later that morning an elderly Native American man named Ahote drove up to the house. In my imagination, Ahote reminds me of Chief Dan George who played the elderly Native American in the movie “The Outlaw Josey Wales”. Ahote asks about the mirror and refers to it as a portal. Ahote becomes a central character and Jenny’s family plus Craig’s childhood become important.
The mirror in fact is a portal for beings from other dimensions to enter our reality. This is the point where the story really takes off. Any more description would spoil your reading adventure. I enthusiastically recommend this book and sincerely hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Legacy is the second Chris Coppel book I've read, and like his other work (unrelated to Legacy), he excelled at weaving tantalizing, eldritch descriptions. Coppel delved into some interesting supernatural concepts, provided a refreshing take on time travel, and raised several intriguing questions regarding what lies beyond the veil of normalcy many of us pull over our eyes. The remote setting of Craig's house added to the eerie ambiance wonderfully. Coupling otherworldly horror with the mundane horror of humanity made for a disturbing read, but I was hoping for more nonstop horror and action. This was a good novel, but it didn't exactly keep me on the edge of my seat.

Craig's harrowing backstory was absorbing, but it didn't all strike me as relevant to the plot. More focus was placed on Craig's past and development than on the plot itself, which helped me sympathize with him but slowed the pacing. Ironically, when the story finally picked up, it flew by too quickly. Legacy could stand alone, but it struck me as the start of a series because of the open ending, which felt clipped. There was a major revelation about Craig at the end, and I wish it hadn't been so glossed over. As a dark fantasy/horror novel, Legacy wasn't entirely what I expected, but I still recommend it to those who like dark novels with sinister supernatural elements and a lot of character backstory.

(Disclaimer: I received a free digital review copy of this book through Edelweiss+. All opinions in this review are my own and are honest and unbiased.)

Trigger Warning: Contains some violence, murder, suicide, a brief mention of child sexual abuse (not detailed), and themes of PTSD and trauma.

Ahh, mirrors. The old classic goto for horror and thrillers. In this case we have the protagonist Craig, a former Marine sniper, who is the beneficiary of a unique gift: an antique wooden mirror. Which is cursed, naturally, because people can't give items any more without cursing them. In order to save his family from an ancient evil (other than the taxes for such a gift) he must find a way to defeat a witch without the use of explosions, fancy rifles, or Americanisms.

Legacy by Chris Coppel is pretty much exactly what you would expect. It’s a fast pace, light on the prose sort of novel that is perfect for a midnight read. There is nothing too complicated here, even with the twists. Neither is there any glaring weaknesses. The book is well plotted, keeps to the premise, unabashedly so, following the usual tropes one finds in these sort of time travel thrillers.

The one negative I would like to highlight is the lack of fleshing out of anyone that isn’t the protagonist. The main character receives most of the focus, and he is likeable and interesting. However, I would have liked to have seen more back story to the witch. We seem to only know that she is evil, because other characters say she is. There is little there to establish her motivations, beyond the designation of being a nebulous baddy.

But perhaps that is nitpicking. Legacy is a solid thriller. I enjoyed it, and I tend to be an unforgiving critic, so I imagine most readers will get a kick out of it. Legacy by Chris Coppel is an engaging story which (witch, hah) hits the target, even if not particularly magical.

Thanks to Carola Schmidt from (Henry Roi Book Tours) and the author Chris Coppel for a copy to review.

"Legacy" is categorised as Horror/Suspense/Thriller, I wouldn't say horror, not the scary bloody type, it has elements of Sci-Fi, but not the Aliens/Future/TimeTravel type more in the different plane of existence type.

The story starts with Craig Edmonds, a sheriff in southern Utah, waking up in the early morning with a loud banging on their front door, he finds a big heavy-looking package outside his porch and an old pickup in the distance.

He brings the package (with great difficulty) inside the house, he wants to open the package but his wife says it's very early and to leave it till the morning.

The morning arrives and he opens it finding a large/old mirror, (the one with intricate carvings on the frame) very creepy looking. What follows is a rollercoaster ride of a story, it involves a centuries-old witch, a shaman and an organisation tasked with defending our plane of existence from monsters hell-bent on destroying ours.

I enjoyed it, it was a quick, easy read and it grabbed me from the very beginning, it has enough to keep you reading more.

What I really liked was the author takes you to Craig's childhood which I believe is an integral part of the story.

The story ends on a cliffhanger, and I'm happy to say I have the second book ready to read. Review coming in December.

A loud pounding on the door awakens the Edmonds family at 2am and when Craig Edmonds investigates he finds a heavy, huge "gift". Merry Christmas Edmonds family! It turns out that the family has been given a large antique mirror which sits perfectly on the living room floor. Only the dog seems to be aware that the mirror is creepy and should be avoided. (worry not, the dog is not harmed). Craig should have listened to the dog.
Craig comes home one day to find that his life is turned upside down and the only way to fix it is to trust yet another mysterious visitor to his door, Ajote. Ajote informs Craig that the two of them must go back in time 25 years to save the life of his wife's ancestor by killing the witch who comes to consume her. Only then will the events that began with the 2am knock be prevents. If only it were that simple......

Legacy is a mind bending and unique spin on time travel, portals, beings from alternate dimensions and humanity. As odd as it sounds, this is a more realistic take on time-travel than other's I have read and it was fun to "go back in time" by 25 years and encounter the world of the late 90's again through Craig's eyes. At less than 200 pages this is a quick read and it keeps you interested right to the very end. Happy travels, readers!

A Blend of Magic, Sci-Fi, and Mystery
California author Chris Coppel is not new when it comes to writing screenplays. He has also worked as a screenwriting teacher at UCLA. Besides screenwriting, Copple enjoys hobbies like drumming and playing the guitar. Before Legacy, Coppel has worked on other horror genres like The Lodge, Far From Burden Bell, Lakebed, and Luck. Legacy Takes on the topic of time travel, thereby, expanding his horizon as an author.
Coppel’s writing style is unique and makes it easy to spot his works from the others. Legacy is a very compelling novel and not one you will drop off very easily. The author did not waste time to introduce us to the main character Craig Edmonds and his family who live in Southern Utah. The sound of a loud noise awakens the family at 2 am only to receive a strange package, which was the beginning of the family’s predicament and struggle to save their lives. The box contained an old mirror sitting in a carved old frame. Soon, Craig figures out that the life he left behind as a Marine sniper has come back to haunt him. Craig is left with the option of traveling back to the past to confront an old witch before her curse destroys his family.

I received an ARC of this book to review and I must say that I have mixed feelings. Have you ever read a novel that should have been a short story? Or a novel that had so much promise but missed the mark?
Then this is the one for you.
I admit the that the overall plot of the PTSD ex- sniper in a dry county receiving a haunted mirror while an old trope, was handled nicely. But the side characters, the others in the police force mainly, seemed to have a more realistic view of things. And while reading it I did think that all it needed was a Native American Medicine Man to enter the plot and then he appeared. The first battle was over too quickly and, of course the reader knew it was going to fail due to the memories of the main character.
All in all I wish there was more background information: a better POV from the witch, more interaction with the monster hunting society, more involvement with people in the town. That the passage of time in the book seemed to take place in the time stated in the book and not in a random 2 day snippet.
This book hints at a series and if so I think the better focus would be to focus on those in the Monster hunting group and not the ex-sniper of this one.
Honestly if one is wanting a light afternoon read this is a good one for you.

Thank you to the author and Henry Roi for sending me this book to review. Legacy explores a question we have probably all asked ourselves. Are we alone in this universe? After reading Legacy, I hope we are. For me the story started a little slow but was intriguing enough to keep my attention. I'm not a big horror story reader but this was soft horror and manageable for my sensitivities. There are a few instances where I think the author may have gone into too much detail as he describes places or attire but the suspense kicks in again after a few pages. I think Mr. Coppel is at his best when his characters banter among each other and I enjoyed how the humor broke some of the suspense. I found myself feeling anxious for the characters, excited and horrified at all the right moments. It is a fast paced novel that held my attention to the last page. The author details the main character's back story which builds a connection and empathy with the reader. I enjoyed the book and can see it as a sequel.

This one was just ok for me. It wasn’t particularly a bad book, the bones are definitely there and the ideas are interesting for sure, however I expected this one to be more of a haunting or something similar.

There were some scenes that gave me the ick, which was what led me to believe it may have been ghost related, but ultimately in the end I wasn’t captivated by this one for many reasons. The characters were interesting, but sometimes there were things written in that I felt weren’t really relevant to much and slowed the book down. Honestly though, that’s more of an issue with me as I love more fast paced books. The plot was just average, it was a pretty typical flow of events and I guessed at what was going to happen at the midway point which is normally a bit of a deal breaker for me, I love some twists. I stuck it out for this one though as it is quite short.

All in all, I’m not sure I would have picked this one up on my own, the author reached out to me and that is why I read it.

Others may enjoy it, but not for me!

Retired Marine Sniper Craig Edmonds likes his peace. He fought hard and long for it and even accepted a sheriff posting in the remote wilderness of Utah. One late evening, he gets a mysterious delivery addressed to him that is certainly not anything he was expecting. Once he opens the crate and reveals the ornate mirror, horrible forces are unleashed and only Craig will be able to banish these evil forces to where they came from. Travelling 25 years into the past, Craig will have to learn to rely on his marine training once more as well as a resurgence of his nightmares and PTSD.
A blending of genres, paranormal, sci-fi, mystery and even thriller, this book transcends many stereotypical notions and uses descriptive language to bring the novel to life in a horrifyingly tangible way. The ending, while foreshadowed comes about in an unexpected manner which is always great in these types of stories. Very well done!

A haunted mirror horror story with Native American lore and time travel. Ahote is a “time walker” and can bring people back in his own timeline to fight fith dimensional monsters that find ways to enter the world and kill/eat people. A mirror shows up on a family’s doorstep in the middle of the night. They must have never seen a single horror movie before because they immediately adorn the mirror in their living room. Obviously the mirror is haunted and its up to Ahote and a member of the family to go back in time and kill the witch.

I loved that parts of this book were actually scary and everything came together perfectly except maybe the technology aspect but time travel is weird. The author has a great way to set up the scary parts to chill you. The ending is left open to possible continuation and I will be on the look out.

“Legacy” written by Chris Coppel is a science fiction and fantasy story. Craig Edmons, a former Marine sniper, receives a mysterious package one night. From there, his life will change and he will have to defeat true evil in order to save his family.
This book condenses in its pages two of my favourite genres: supernatural horror and time travels. And it does it in such a gripping and compelling way that I couldn’t take my eyes off the pages until I finished it. The plot is original and creative and it presents a fascinating mixture of fiction and facts that make the story believable although it is a work of fiction. I especially liked how the author constructed the protagonist’s character. The book contains enough cliff-hangers and suspense to keep readers on the edge of their seats and a surprising ending.

Wow! What an adventure! I found Legacy full of surprises and twists. Chris Coppel is an author that weaves deep layers of deceit, espionage, and secrets within his novel, adding an atmosphere of suspense, horror and thrills.
This book is well written, with complex characters and events. Most science-fiction fans will love this novel in the exactly same way I did.
The protagonist, Craig Edmonds, really fulfilled my expectations and I adored him. Fighting for survival and trying to keep his family safe, he caught all my attention and I dare to say that in most than one moment I felt sorry for him.
I think this masterpiece has potential although it did feel a bit rushed in the end, like it could be a little longer to flesh out some more of the story, but this could just be because I really enjoyed long and detailed novels. All in all, I really recommend it!

Legacy is the first time-travel horror themed novel I’ve read and I was certainly surprised by the suspense contained within the pages. The main character, though a sheriff and former sniper, undergoes a series of unexpected happenings due to a mysterious delivery to his family home. Although this was a short read, I was pulled in by the author's ability to present well-developed characters and depicted scenes that seemed to transport me in time with the characters. The thrilling situations added to the unexpected and made this one definitely a story that I would want to recommend to other readers who enjoy time travel, suspense and a bit of horror in their reads. If you feel like being pulled into another place and time and following a suspenseful adventure with a memorable set of characters, this is easily a story to enjoy.

Excellently done! I love stories like this, one that would own you completely while you're devouring it chapter by chapter. Legacy by Chris Coppel is the kind of book that's so appealing mainly because of its multi-genre type. It offers thriller, mystery, paranormal, and supernatural genres all in one. I was awed from start to finish because the book was very well written. I can definitely tell through Chris' writing style that he poured his heart into this novel.

The main character Craig Edmonds is one of the best characters I have read about in a book. He was strong-willed and very determined. It was a bit of challenge for me to read his narratives because I just wanted him to overcome everything. Lots of surprises happened in this book that made me even admire it. For fans of the genres mentioned, you better not miss this masterpiece of a book!

I hadn’t heard of Chris Coppel before. But when he reached out to my blog and I read the blurb, I knew I had to check this out. I’m so thankful that he reached out to me! I absolutely love a good thriller/horror book. And this one was amazing! The plot and overall storyline were well-written and intriguing. It was a chilling horror/thriller meets occult fantasy/supernatural. The characters were well-developed and interesting, especially the main character, Craig Edmonds. I thought he was as unique as the story was yet relatable in many ways. This story may have been short, but it was suspenseful and kept me on the edge of my seat. I read it all in one sitting. It was just too captivating to put down! If you’re a fan of horror and suspenseful thrillers, this is an absolute must read!

My father recommended me this amazing book, so I picked it up to read while traveling to Mexico. I'm not much of a reader and have been known to start books and lose interest quickly. Legacy was definitely not in that category!
I read almost half of this suspense horror novel during my flight and finished the book within the first couple of days of my trip. The author quickly captured and kept my attention throughout the book.
I found myself completely immersed and would often think about how the story was going to end. It’s one of those stories that come along once in a while that makes readers want to read it non-stop until the satisfying ending. I’m giving nothing further away here. I wish I had another book from Chris Coppel to read!

A compelling but spooky tale
If you read it alone, in a dark place, as I did, it will give you goosebumps. “Legacy” is a spooky, sci-fi story written by Chris Coppel. He has penned an original novel which enticed me from the very beginning. The idea of a past danger that haunts some inhabitants is very frightening but at the same time it encourages readers to keep on reading. In fact, it happened to me. Throughout the tale there are several turns and twists that kept me at the edge of my sofa. It is a well-written story with dynamic, well-developed characters. I enjoyed very much the author´s writing style, I think that it is very clear and makes it readable. All in all, I recommend it without doubt.
