When architect-turned-cartoonist Gemma Gené first met her pet pug, Mochi, she felt as if time stopped. This dramatic moment and her adoring relationship with the rambunctious pug led her to begin chronicling her adventures with Mochi in a series of incredibly cute webcomics that have gained a social media following of half a million loyal readers. The comics chronicle Mochi’s life from puppyhood to adulthood, featuring Mochi's unrequited dog friendships, his jealousy of his two dog-brothers, and his love of food. Readers and dog parents will love this humorous tale of a sincerely loyal friendship between one grumpy pug and his adoring owner.
An adorable webcomic about living with your first dog. Gemma Gene does a great job of illustrating what seems to go on in our dogs' heads and how we can't stay mad when they are ornery. These quick little illustrations will remind you of situations we'd all been in with our furry family members.
Received a review copy from Andrew McMeel Publishing and NetGalley.
THIS HAS LITERALLY BEEN ME SINCE FOREVER- READING THIS JUST MAKES ME WANT A DOG EVEN MORE!!
Seriously so adorable. If I were a dog, I would definitely have the same personality as Mochi~ Actually, never mind, I take that back. That’s just me being my normal human self. :)
【 IN SHORT; This was such a funny, chill and cute read. And it’s a pretty fast read so you can read it anytime for entertainment! The art style was cute and fit really well with the story. I also really liked the different sections highlighting life with Mochi Mochi’s life. Highly recommend to pet owners and those who surrender to cuteness. :) 】
Living With Mochi by Gemma Gené Andrews McMeel Publishing This humorous comic book is sure to please dog owners especially if they know a pug. It's relatable to any dog but pugs especially. It tells the life of Mochi from his likes, dislikes, food , sleep patterns, his family, his struggles, and so much more! The delightful art is clever and witty that made me smile just by looking at them! Add the text and it really won my heart! Mochi is a fat, lazy dog that is a nicer canine version of Garfield! (But much cutier!) I want to thank the publisher and NetGalley for letting me read this fun book!
* I received an eARC of this book via Netgalley. All opinions in this review are my own.
This was so dang adorable! My dog and I could relate to so many things! There were various moments that I caught myself smiling like a lunatic and a few even got a surprised chuckle out of me. The art style is simple and clean. I would have loved it even more if everything had been in full color. Overall, this passed the time quite nicely and I'd recommend it to anyone who loves dogs.
Mochi is a dog who has so much sass and fun in one little creature. Of course, this lovely being needed their own comic book! Muchi is a pug (because of course he is), and he has the best facial expressions for a dog in a comic book. I love it. He's adorable, he's cute and he vomits when he's anxious (come on guys, life is tough sometimes - my one cat still does this).
The owner's reactions to getting a new dog were exactly how I was with getting all of my animals. It's an exciting time and it's thrilling! For years you beg and get excited and hope... and then one day you get that ball of sunshine! It's relatable and also completely adorable. Don't we all want a pet like Mochi? Who's always there being a ray of goofy sunshine?
I love this collection, I can't lie! It's sugary sweet, positively awesome and so much fun.
Five out of five stars. I want more!

Happy Publication week! Available THIS TUESDAY March 6th!
This graphic novel was absolutely ADORABLE and so relatable! We have a pug named Mr. Bojangles aka “Bobo” so I found myself LOLing at almost every single page of this sweet little book. ( See my Bookstagram @greeneyedgirl0704 link in the link tree in my bio for our Happy Publication wishes & Happy Easter picture to see him in all his glory.)
“Living with Mochi” is for dog lovers everywhere, it’s not just about Pugs, but if your dog has a quirky, one-of-a-kind personality I guarantee that you will see them within these pages!
🐶 Does your dog think that they should eat their food AND get to share yours?
🐶 Would your dog say that the most valuable item in the house is the refrigerator?
🐶 Does your dog paw you for attention and casually ( or maybe more adamantly) remind you that they REALLY want a piece of that cookie? Sandwich? Potato Chip?
🐶 Do you feel bad about moving or getting up because your dog is asleep or comfortable on top of you?
🐶 Does your dog look at other pets like they’re below them and think they they are human?
🐶 Does your dog find the pill in all types of food no matter how well you disguise it?
If so, this book is just MIGHT be for you. Pass it around the family, and even give it as a gift for a dog-lover that you know because this one is a hoot!!!!
5 ⭐️!
Thank you to Gemma Gene, Netgalley & Andrews McMeel Publishing for the advanced e-arc of this book.
This was really cute, and I think any dog lover could enjoy this little comic book about Mochi the pug. It humanizes him a lot, which is something I wish more pet-themed comics would do, because it's fun to read the little thought bubbles and his motives behind some of his antics. It wasn't anything ground-breaking or hilarious, but I enjoyed it and could go for some puppy cuddles right about now. ♥
I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
Living with Mochi is an adorably cute comic style book about the author (Gemma Gene) and her pet pug Mochi. This book was a perfect pick me up read and as a previous pug owner I could relate to this book so much. So many things in this book reminded me of my pug baby when I had him. This book was nostalgic for me and I laughed out loud so many times reading this. Dog lovers will adore this book. Each page has cute and understandable drawings and this book really was a pleasure to read.
Mochi is a pug as you tell from the cover, who lives a spoiled dog life. His mami spoils him from day one. He loves his mami.
Throughout the book you get to see the things Mochi likes and dislikes, plus some little extra graphics of how situations occur.
The graphics in the book are amazing and done so well. I couldn't tell if the author was trying to make it seem like Mochi could talk or not but I took it as they were the thoughts in Mochi's head and that mami only hear barks or other dog sounds, to make it seem more realistic.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I really appreciate it!
This collection of web comics is definitely for anyone who wants to enjoy something sweet, fun and pure. I am a dog owner myself and I could relate to all of the comics and I found myself smiling throughout the whole book.
I was actually looking for something fun and quick to read and came across this collection of web comics and I can honestly say that I would read them again whenever I need a quick and fun read, which brightens your mood!
First of all, the drawings are nicely done and they just seem so pure and adorable. The scenes were also really funny and you can easily relate to them if you are a dog lover. Yet, I actually would have preferred for the comic to be in color but this is just my personal preference.
Second, those little scenes were so relatable and funny. I loved the fact that the dog was able to talk and have a conversation with its owner and how their relationship was portrayed. There was so much humor and I really enjoyed those scenes!
Overall, I can really recommend this collection of web comics if you want a quick and fun read, are into dogs or animals in general. It was fun to read and I really enjoyed it! I will definitely read it again!
If you like small dogs, you will probably find humor in this collection of web cartoons, popular online.
Mochi is a pug that acts a bit like a cat sometimes, and sometimes like a dog.
The author has the dog speaking English to her, though most things are what we would assume dogs would say to us if they could speak English.
The things that are covered are things that most keepers of dogs or cats are familiar with, such as sleeping on or close to her head, as is shown on the cover, not wanting to go for walks in the rain, and not wanting to eat the pet food as they should.
All of the stories are relatable, though there are no laugh out loud humor here. It more a nodding of the head and saying to yourself, yes, my dog does that too.
If you love this series, it is a nice collection to have in print.
Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.
Mochi is so humane! I loved this comic so very much. Tiny Mochi wanting food, hugs, and attention is so cute and makes me want to have a dog. The funny illustrations of how mochi is thinking of food all day long and just hates parks and other dogs are so cute and funny at the same time! These comics are just wonderful. whenever you have a bad day and need something to cheer you up, this comic is a must-read.
Oh this was so much fun!!! Made me miss the days when we had a dog [but not enough to actually get another dog!! THIS is much better - living vicariously through someone else! YAY! NO dog poop to clean up! LOL] and there was always someone to cuddle with!! Gemma Gene is a gifted illustrator and her first-hand knowledge of what being a pet owner is all about makes this such a fun and real read. I was sad when it ended [and immediately went and found her on Insta so I could have more Mochi] and look forward to more books about this adorable pug and his Mami and Papi!!

Cute, funny and relatable. Mochi rules! 😎 My partner and I adopted two dogs five years ago, and I've seen many similarities between Mochi and them 😄. Also I identify quite a lot with the author. Here there's an example:
My partner and I can remember all the dogs' names but we struggle to remember their humans' names 🙈.
See why Mochi rules?

Sweet and fluffy comic about a silly, possessive, cute pug. The art style makes everything look pudgy, friendly, and cute, and the individual comics are heartwarming and often funny. But in the aggregate it has the same effect as reading a Garfield collection - the are only so many jokes here and seeing them over and over has very diminishing returns. And I think having the collection organized by themes (food, sleep, friends, etc.) intensifies that effect. That said, Mochi and his family are super cute!

4/5
This was a super cute comic chronicle about the pug Mochi. I felt it was very relatable at times, and I can think of plenty of my dog-owner friends or dog lovers who would love to receive this cute book. The thing which made me laugh often was the fact that the pug knew he could get away with everything, since he was so loved. It just made my head shake with a smirk on my face.
The book is divided up into chapters, however I think that kinda made it a bit obvious for me how short the book was. I think that's my only downside. I know with these comic collections they tend to sometimes be a tad short, which is fine, but with the division in chapters it made it feel even shorter. However, it was not that annoying and I still loved it regardless. I think that's why it's a 4/5 and not a 5/5.
I read Mochi's daily webcomic on Instagram and when I saw Hoopla had a copy of his Mami's book, I jumped at the chance to look through it. If you've seen every comic on social media, you've seen most of these before. Some were new to me. I appreciated the introduction to how she got Mochi and his family tree indicated who he likes and who he is not fond of. I'm sure my uncle's dog feels the same way about my cousin's daughter as Mochi feels about Sofia LOL! Poor dogs!
I wish she had included the move from Barcelona and what happened when Peli (Papi) moved in. That cracked me up. I also missed the inclusion of the Twinchis but Ben is mentioned and the best Mochi and Ben comics are included. I hope Gemma does a second volume including the Twinchis (Huey and Duey) and a third as they adjust to life with Yellow (human baby sister).
I was a bit shocked to see Mochi making a rude gesture in some of the comics. It's not one used here in the U.S. but in the U.K. and I guess Europe, the backwards peace sign is the equivalent of the middle finger. I didn't like that so much.
If you love dogs, this is a must-see. I read the comic every night before bed and it never fails to put a smile on my face.
Living With Mochi is a very cutely illustrated graphic comic book that is about the purest love between Mochi, a sweet little pug dog, and his loving owner Gemma, her husband Peli and her family. It was such a delightful page turner to read through all the day to day antics and fun little things that Mochi goes through in his life. The pictures made it so fun to read and I was chuckling many times as it went along. I am a dog lover and have had the blessing of owning several dogs in my life, so it was satisfying to relate to many of the things that Mochi did. I loved this book and highly recommend it to all dog and animal lovers!

This is an adorable collection that anyone who has ever loved a dog will appreciate. It’s sweet and pure and the kind of break from things most of us can use right now. I look forward to more from the author!

(updated) I picked this up because I needed some good vibes and it certainly delivered all the fluff to soothe my tired soul. I love Mochi’s carefree manner, and his philosophy on life, love and food. I thought the artist did a great job portraying this wonderful creature. I’m just happy I was able to live vicariously with my dream dog through this comic book!
I didn't really add a lot more on the blog except for a number of favorite panels. Big thanks again to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the ARC
Thanks Netgalley for providing an ARC of this cute book. i loved every part of it. Mochi is such a cute doggie and you can see you pet in him. such a quick fun read.

I just love dogs, and pugs especially, plus, I like comics, so I decided to check out what Living with Mochi was like! In the end I did have fun… but the dog was just too human-like/too much Garfield copy.
Meet Mochi, a pug baby (in the beginning). A spoiled little thing who loves food and sleep and who at times does some pretty cute things. We see how life is with a dog and it reminds me a lot of how cats are. Haha, I mean sleeping on laptops, on heads, hogging all the places in bed, and some other things.
I liked that the book was split up in parts and that each part had respective comics for that topic. From sleeping to food to family and more, and then comics following that topic.
I liked the coloured pages at the beginning of each new part/chapter. Those mostly showed the dog as a dog, and not as a Garfield copy.
But I am deducing points because the dog talked/acted human at times. It just didn’t fit in my eyes and made the dog more like a Garfield copy, and really, in the end I just saw Garfield instead of a dog (and while I do love Garfield, even he gets too much). The mannerisms, the entitlement, the love for food, the eyes, the movement, the way he talked, it was just so Garfield. If I want Garfield, I will read that. I wanted fun dog comics featuring normal dogs, aka I would have rather have the dog silent and more animal-like.
So yeah, at times I liked this.. but at times I just didn’t. And if a book is 224 pages… it can feel endless. I am giving it 2.5 stars in total. I would have loved to rate it higher, but the dog was just frustrating/annoying/too much a Garfield clone.
Living With Mochi would make the perfect gift for any pug lover, dog lover, or just plain pet lover around. Inside we find quick little moments into the daily life of Mochi the pug who loves his mom more than anything and has tons of cute quirks. This is a fast read that will make anyone who enjoys animals smile. Looking forward to more adventures with Mochi!
Living With Mochi is an adorable comic about a dog and his relationship with his owner.
It’s quick and easy to read, and it is perfect for a break from reality. There’s no deeper story, it’s just small comics, so therefore it’s great if you need to forget about the bad things in life for some time and focus on a cute dog.
The story is very personal, which made it harder to relate to. I don’t know any of the people in the story, but it is still cute to read about their relationship with Mochi.
The art style is very cute and fits the comic well.
