AL:ICE #6

AL:ICE Explorer

Rate this book
With the invading aliens temporarily driven from Human and NeHaw occupied space, all the races are using the pause to recover and rebuild, both friend and foe alike. For the NeHaw, that means pressuring the Earth to allow them to rebuild and rearm their fleet from the Wawobash shipyards, a risk that could easily backfire.
For Jake, the lingering concerns of a lost crew with the un-activated Artificial Life installed in the captured saucer still dominate his thoughts. While he obsesses on that, others look to the origins of the mysterious alien invaders in the universe’s unexplored regions.
General Jake Thomas must face the fact that he can’t be the human recovery leader and an intergalactic explorer at the same time. Therefore, it is now left to others of his inner circle to take up the mantle and charge forth into the unknown while he holds down the fort at home.
In the end, it is a surprise to see who rises to the occasion and proof that the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree.

Great book

I have read this author and this series for a long time and I'm never disappointed. I look forward to the next book in the series.

I found it quite difficult to get into this book, the author has setup lots of little storylines and kept jumping from one to another, giving glimpses of each story, but not enough to grab my interest.
Eventually the book settles down, unfortunately I still think there were probably too many storylines and he still breaks these down into very short segments that are often only a few pages long. Personally I would prefer each story to be given at least a chapter at a time so there would be more flow to the story.
Overall the story was an interesting read, although annoyingly, it ends with so many loose ends.

Amazing number 6

An amazing read. It carries on the ALICE theme quite well. This series is well worth reading. Looking forward to number seven.

Continuing to excel

The story of Earth raising itself from destruction from alien conquest continues. Jake and his family bring the people back into space and reborn as a new galactic power facing newer threats. Well crafted storyline that keeps itself fresh.

It seems like forever since I read Book 5. But it didn't take me long to remember what was up.

I admit that I can't keep track of the difference in Linda and Sara et al. The women kind of run together in my mind. There's a big cast of characters in this series, and the author helps you out with a list in the front of the book.

There were some terrific developments in the arc of the story. Both the Phasers and the NeHAw will have interesting story lines to come.

It was also great to see Jake's 15-year-old son Tim get out into the galaxy and demonstrate his unusual upbringing.

There's a nit I'd like to pick. I find more typos and grammar errors in this series than most of the others that I follow. Maybe it's just that I learned "old people's English." For example, a group of girls is a clique, not a click. Something like that knocks me right out of the story and I have to figure out what's going on before I can read more.

As I say, it's a fun series with cool characters and I just deal with the rest. If you haven't read book 6, read it soon. If you haven't read the series, start at book 1.

Great story, crap editing

Another excellent volume to the AL-ICE story line. Really liked the change to more exploration type story. But seriously Mr. Lamb, it is way past time for you to have fixed the editing problem. Way too many errors, if the story wasn’t so good I’d have quit reading you a long time ago.

A Truly Evolved Story in an Already Evolved Saga. Book 6 Takes Us Further & Farther for AL-l Species

Odd typing of note and reference to the Artificial Lifeforms known ad AL:Ice. AL|Ices have traveled off world but never or almost never without being in constant communications with her AL sisters as the humans embark on a journey into the unknown. Uncharted space, space beyond NeHaw communication where even NeBak can't send spy reports. To those who were critical of the earliest stories, there was absolutely no sex in this book whatsoever. Too many species have threatened the survival of earth itself. Those days were all for future planned objectives by the AL systems. Where to next is the real question?

Couldn’t put it down

Very original idea and moved along so as not to lose the readers interest. Lots of action and story twists to keep it going.

Another great read

This book attempts to expand the main core of characters and I think it does just the right amount while also bringing in new and older ones from past books to keep the story alive. I enjoyed it was kept entertained and if you read it I hope you get the same enjoyment I have had.

Good but different

I have loved this series from the beginning. And I enjoyed this book as well. However the tone of these books is changing as the point of view is now variable and not focused on Jake as much.I don't necessarily like that but I understand it as humanity is expanding rapidly. The need for new heroes is nigh. As much as this book changes the tone of the series a bit it is still quite enjoyable. I still think the author can touch a little more on the mutations and perhaps with this book he has a bit.It seems Jake is a bit of a progenitor for Some super humans. They might be necessary in the future.I enjoy that Jake holds Himself inhumanity to a higher moral standard. In the future I would certainly like to see more Jake. But I understand the demands of leading most of humanity don't allow him to go off and be alone hero much anymore. However I look forward to the next book hopefully soon

I got the flue and had 2 weeks bedrest, so started this Audio Book series... and it was simply Wow! Excellent! Well worth the time and read/listen, highly enjoyable and this whole series would make an excellent TV series similar to the Expanse series, but much much better! Love this series!

This AL:ICE series reminds me of Mark Wayne McGinnis style story telling, and my only complaint is that both Mark Wayne McGinnis and Chales W. Lamb need to tripple their story telling output :)

The premise of the AL:ICE facilities is not far fetched, as I worked in the Marine Corps and served in the R&D compliance & oversight all over the U.S., and the authenticity to protocol and military structure was highly enjoyable, as stories based in reality with the "What If" leaps of imagination is appealing to the best characters of humanity, which is well worth the time and money to simply let the "movie" unfold in your mind as you listen! Better than a movie... in my mind!

I don't like an unfinished story

This book is a long time coming, and I hope seven doesn't take as long as I'm unhappy with the non-ending to this book. There are numerous editing errors that I expect will be corrected in the future. I find it amazing that authors can't find good readers to review and correct editing errors. The story is almost like a new beginning. We send explorer ships out to look at uncharted territory, and we discover new people and create new mysteries that will need to be resolved in future books. The phasers are still out there, and we learn a little more about them, but they remain an unknown quantity. We are also developing an heir apparent for Jake in that Tim is overcoming his youth, and displaying good survival skills.

A better than average series.

Good character development, consistent storyline. Why 3 stars? The editing. Missing words, miss spelled words, incorrect words, the occasional sentence fragment. Good thing I get to read through Amazon Prime because I would not pay to read this.

Engaging and thoughtful.

So many things in motion. Restoration and consolidation on Earth. The competative dance with the NeHaw for supremacy of space. Alliance with the ever seaky NeHaw. And now exploration of the unknown universe. All this and bringing new characters to lifr. Awesome!

Not as good as the previous

I found it very draggy and/or over descriptive in spots. Parts were soap operaish ( new word). I will jump off here. Remember this is my personal take.

Wow. Now they was a good book

While Jake was not a major character in this book. The overall story was well thought out and enjoyable. I do hope the Jake does get more time and we get to learn more about his evolution.

Not sure why I stick with this subpar series. I’m really astonished that the author could take it this far without giving anyone in the narrative any fatal flaws whatsoever. Anyway, all done now (even though I’m sure there will be more).

This was a fun book to read and follow the characters as they continue to develop and see how the storyline plays out. I would recommend reading it.

I enjoyed this more than last book. Seems like there are a few too many plot points happening at times and books need to be longer to flesh everything out properly.

fun space opera

I’m just pleased to review what is basically a juvenile’s dream storyline with interesting characters and technical advances. Fun bookstore

Okay, loved the plots and the action, but he REALLY needs an editor. There were way too many misplaced commas and several misplaced homonyms. That said, write on!

Yet ANOTHER book that doesn't have the edition I'm looking for!!! So, I'll be using the Tantor Audio edition in lieu of the missing Audible edition. I really wish these Amazon companies (Audible and Goodreads) would get their act together and put an 'add your Audible purchases' button to the Goodreads site (just like the one for Kindle book purchases)!

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the promised seventh book of this series.

Maybe ALICE 7 in 2024?

Very good continuation of this series! 🤗
Recommended for Sci-Fi readers of all ages.

I believe Mr Lamb needs someone to give him incentive to spend more time writing!

Poor AL:ICE might start to rust without more attention. (More Books)
