The Crop Circle

Rate this book
WARNING EXTREME HORROR

When one of them reveals that he has terminal cancer, four childhood friends agree to do something that they have talked about for years; ever since they were young, they've always spoken about making a crop circle in the shape of a massive cock. Of course it's a childish, stupid notion, but somehow it seems fitting.

Little do they know what they are letting themselves in for... a descent into ultraviolence, insanity, and mind-bending horror.

It Was Meant To Be
A Real Work of Art...

THE CROP CIRCLE: Extreme Horror
by Kevin Sweeney

No spoilers. 4 stars. The woman gave Robin a massive dose of codeine to facilitate the removal of his scrotum and testicles with a razor-sharp knife...

The drug kept him in a state of half-sleep, floating. It made it easier for him to focus on the deaths of his best friends, Fat Andy, Dildo, and Shades...

The woman told Robin...

Her job was to tie up loose ends and to silence people who may cause problems. She usually didn't speak to her targets, but she wanted to make a deal...

It was a simple quid pro quo...

Robin will tell the woman everything about the crop circle that the four young men made in one of her organization's wheat fields so she can finish her report...

In exchange...

The woman will tell Robin everything she knows about his three friends and their deaths...

Robin began his account...

It was meant to be a work of art... a d*ck, complete with bollocks...

This was a story that hooked me right from the first paragraph and wouldn't let go until the surprising ending.

I had a little trouble with the author's style and found myself going back to reread pages. I also had to slow down and Google British slang throughout for definitions, but it wasn't so bothersome that I would not recommend the book because it was a really unique plot.

Warning to some readers: This is an extreme horror novel, so rape, murder, and mayhem are part of the content.

I know that these four men are odious to a lot of people, representing various aspects of “toxic masculinity”, but the friendship between them is the truth I wanted to write about, because that was our truth for as long as it lasted...

So here’s to you, boys.

Unapologetically gross and gruesome, with a vain of dark humor pumping through it. Vintage Sweeney.

The Crop Circle is an extreme horror story about Male Genital Mutilation.

Basically, a group of friends travel to a wheat field and make a crop circle in the shape of a, uhm, how should I say this... *cough cough* penis...

One of the friends is in a hospital, talking to a lady who proceeds to tell them about each of their best friend's fatalities.

So, wow! This story was insanely brutal! Kevin Sweeney knows where to strike, and he uses that against the reader, causing you to hold your groin in dismay. You want to take a break from what you are reading, give your balls a mental break, but Kevin Sweeney is such a great story teller, so much so that he makes you want to continue with reading the mayhem, even when your curled into a fetal position, cupping your balls and wishing for the intermission with the mean lady to commence again.

I give this one Four Floppy Stars!!! Yes, I really liked this one! The whole time I was shocked at what I was reading, but never once thought to look away! As a guy, this made my knees weak and stomach tighten.

Amazing Extreme Horror Novella! Recommend to those who can handle horror that's so brutal, it would make the hardest horror fan change genres.

Good Job Kevin Sweeney. You actually made me grimace while reading a horror story, which only two other books have forced me to do prior. Those stories being Billy Silver by Daniel J. Volpe and Die Tommy by Aron Beauregard. So, Good Job Kevin, your the third to make me visibly grimace. 👍

Let’s get one thing straight: The Crop Circle is a trip. It’s dark, gory, and absolutely brimming with over-the-top moments that will either have you cringing or laughing nervously (sometimes both!). Kevin Sweeney knows how to take extreme horror to the edge and then push it even further.

While it’s not without its flaws, this book delivers an intense, unforgettable read.

The story follows Robin and his childhood friends—Fat Andy, Dildo, and Shades—on what starts as a nostalgic reunion and turns into an unimaginable nightmare. Their plan? To create a crude crop circle as a final hurrah. But the field they choose isn’t just any ordinary field, and what unfolds is a chaotic blend of madness, gore, and deeply personal reckonings.

🚨 Spoiler Alert 🚨
One of the most shocking moments comes with Fat Andy’s horrifying descent into madness. His grotesque self-mutilation in the hotel kitchen (yes, involving his genitals and a pizza cutter!) is one of the most graphic, stomach-turning scenes I’ve ever read. It’s both horrifying and bizarrely comedic, a tone that Sweeney expertly balances throughout the book.

The interactions between the four friends are another standout. Their banter is crass and often hilarious, a bittersweet reminder of their deep bond. Robin’s terminal cancer diagnosis adds a layer of poignancy, making their reunion feel both desperate and meaningful. But as each of them begins to unravel—haunted by the consequences of their actions in the field—the story dives headfirst into pure horror.

The pacing is relentless, and the twists are genuinely surprising. The connection between the crop circle and a sinister biotech company adds an intriguing layer of conspiracy to the carnage. The ending, while satisfyingly brutal, leaves just enough ambiguity to keep you thinking about the story long after you’ve closed the book.

So, why not five stars? While I loved the intensity and creativity, some parts felt overindulgent, with the shock value occasionally overshadowing the story itself. But that’s just personal preference—it’s clear Sweeney wrote this for readers who thrive on the extreme.

If you’re a fan of splatterpunk and aren’t afraid to dive into the grotesque, The Crop Circle is a must-read. Just be prepared for a lot of blood, gore, and absolutely no mercy.

What a wild ride! In 'The Crop Circle', a group of friends decides to finally do the ultimate prank they've been planning for years; making a penis shaped crop circle. After pulling off the prank, strange events follow. I was not expecting this story to unfold the way it did. An outrageous and fun as hell read

This was my first book by Kevin Sweeney, and I am shocked it is not more well known!

I absolutely loved this story and how it was written by Sweeney, going back and forth between the present and the past with our main character.

All of the characters are unique, and when the brutality scenes start....it does NOT hold back.
