Rate this book
His sword for his friends. His life for his family.

After a lifetime of battle and exploration, Hakon's sword now lies hidden beneath the floor of his home. He seeks a quiet life, content to let the world pass him by.

Until he receives word that his daughter has gone missing without a trace.

Now he must pick up his sword once again, to fight the demons from his past one last time. Allies and enemies from a time of legend are converging for one final war, with Hakon and his family trapped in the eye of the storm. He must summon a band of heroes, long separated, if he hopes to survive.

Against a hostile world and their most dangerous enemy ever, a band of broken gods gathers one last time.

For friendship.
For family.
For humanity.

CW/TW: graphic gore, death, parental death, mention of spousal abuse, swords, knives, stabbing, blood, sword fight, imprisonment, murder, graphic violence,

1. I didn't want it to end. I don't want it to end. I want more. Why'd it have to end?

2. I am weak for short chapters and this book has some lovely short chapters that are nice and easy to get through. I've realised that a story can be long, but when the chapters are short and aren't filled up with too much info dumping, I enjoy them very much.

3. The beginning was a little hard to get through because it read as if I'm supposed to already know what's going on, as if I already know all the terminology and all the characters and I was confused as heck. But when I finally actually knew the terminology and the magical system and the characters it was actually really good and I enjoyed it very much.

4. I love the dual POVs in this book. I love that I got to know the two main characters through each other and through their own thoughts. I enjoyed both POVs and not once did I feel like one POV was lacking, I kept wanting to know more and more from each POV and I love everything that I got.

5. I need more back story about the Band, I need to know what the heck was up with them and why that one person stayed a god and the others didn't, like why the huge punishment despite everything. I'm trying to ask questions without dropping spoilers, but for real for real, I have a lot of questions I need answers to.

6. Please don't die, please don't die, please don't die. Which is basically what I was chanting for most of the last 3rd of the book. I was stressed for most of it because I didn't want either MC to die because I love both father and daughter and I need to know what will happen next because the ending is hinting at something big and I NEED TO KNOW!

7. I didn't think I'd enjoy this nook as much as I did, but I'm so glad that I did and I cannot wait for the next one. Break my heart Ryan Kirk, I'm ready!

“I’m worried I’m going to lose her.”
“She’s not yours.”
“What?”
Meshell took another long drink. “I don’t know why parents are incapable of seeing such an obvious truth. She’s a person, not a possession. You can’t lose what you never owned.”

“It’s the same now, even if you don’t see it. When you bring a child into this world, you’re giving birth to something that will die. We hope it will be after we go to the gate ourselves, but one way or another, we all eventually say goodbye. She might never speak to you again, but if so, that will be no more than the fulfillment of a bargain you made when she was born.”

Another great read from Ryan

This is completely different for all his other books, but as with the other books it is well written and has a lovely flow. There are some very interesting characters and look forward to reading more about them in the future.
This book has an entertaining story line with some nice twists and turns

The group gets back together.
Witcher Feels.

The start is slow. Be patient. It takes off.
Unique magic system. A glimpse into what after a rebellion done really well with fragmented humanity staving off the wild to carve a place for itself with semi divine entities being present.

Absolutely recommend.

Not What I Expected

This was a good story and I loved how Mr Kirk used the dragon. I found the story of both father and daughter very compelling. I also like the fact that the father loved his daughter and how that was used to manipulate him. I like how the daughter's journey was handled and the ending was beautiful.

A Good Read

Every now and then a book comes along with fresh ideas and interesting characters. The Band of Broken Gods is one of them. I truly enjoyed it, and look forward to the next in the series.

A great fast enjoyable fantasy read, interesting characters , and a cool magic system. Nothing to deep or overly complicated, with intersting twist and turns. Started books 2 after finishing book and looking forward to book 3 and seeing where the story finishes. Author I will be reading again.

confusing at first but a great story

It feels like the second book, great characters and once you just go with it the story is great. I really enjoyed it.

Nice

This book kinda started out a little slow I thought but quickly picked up and once it did it was a wild ride. A very clever and different premise. I throughly enjoyed it.
